Jane (PS) | 6057 comments What is the Pick-It-For-Me Challenge?

The Pick-It-For-Me Challenge (PIFM) is a reading challenge where each participant gives and receives book recommendations based on a given set of rules. The assignment method and book selection rules change each month so it’s always new and different. Please make sure you read these rules before you sign up. (I've been guilty of not reading the rules in my rush to sign up, so I know to emphasise this issue!)

After the signup period expires, I'll put your names along the extra info I requested into the super secret PIFM randomizer and select someone for you to choose for. The person for whom you are to 'pick' will be posted at the same time as the rules for the month.

So whilst you are doing your picks, someone else is picking for you. Once you receive your picks, you select a book off the list and get reading. To complete the challenge, you only have to read 1 (one) book but many of us end up reading more because we just can't resist a list of books to read.

In order to participate you need to either HAVE YOUR PROFILE SET TO PUBLIC (preferable), or make the person who will be giving you recommendations your friend. On top of that, I strongly recommend keeping your bookshelves updated; you may otherwise end up with a recommendation for a book that you have already read.

Everything gets done in this thread so be sure to come back often!!!

INFORMATION NEEDED TO SIGN UP
Please sign up in this thread with the following information in your signup post:

**How tall are you in feet and inches?** …Take a rough guess if you aren’t sure…

Please select one of the following categories (A – F):
A = Less than 5 feet (under 152cms)
B = 5’00 to 5’2 (152– 157cm)
C = 5’2'1 to 5’4 (158 – 162.5cm)
D = 5’4'1 to 5’6 (162.6 – 167cm)
E = 5’6'1 to 5’8 (168 – 172cm)
F = 5’8'1 and over (173cm and higher)

The average height of a US woman over the age of 20 is 5’4 (162.5cm) and a US male is 5’9 (175.5cm). BTW - I have not idea how to show a fraction of an inch... clearly.

IMPORTANT DATES
Sign up will remain open through to Jul 28th (5pm US EST). Please be patient – I am 14 hours ahead of this time zone. For me, this is 7am the next day… I will endeavour to issue the pickers/pickees within a couple of hours of this closing time.

You will have until AUGUST 2nd to make your recommendations.

You then have till the end of the month to read your pick and give some feedback.

If you decide to pull out of the challenge, PLEASE let me know!

If you are new please read the challenge specific FAQ here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3.... If you have any questions that are not addressed there, please feel free to ask!

Jane (PS) | 6057 comments PICKERS and PICKEES
Mostly cattle are purchased and sold on weight. However in the stud cattle industry, other issues become more important when selecting breeding stock, including lineage, frame and type. I now have all our participants for this challenge sorted into height groups for no other reason than that I could and it sort of tied in :)

Due to the scarcity of members under 5ft, I have merged the short with the tall for some hybrid vigour.

Choose for the person below you within your height range. Eg Thenia picks for Jim who picks for Debbie. Last person on the list for height category picks for the person at the top. Eg Megan picks for Thenia.

If you find yourself in a different height range... check again :) This unlikely as we have only one name double-up screen name! 'Cathy': Cathy #1 has a second name (found when hovering over her icon) that starts with a 'C' - hence Cathy (C). Our second Cathy doesn't have a second name or a picture icon - so just straight Cathy. Let me know if you can't find yourself :)

Jane (PS) | 6057 comments PICKING RULES

Stud Cattle Ranchers

The Highs
1st Place - Congratulations - You've just won Champion Cow at the district agricultural show!: recommend a book that you rated 5 stars.

Baby Names - Naming your prize cattle: recommend a book whose H/h has a name that you love.

New Blood - Artificial insemination time: recommend a new to them author.

The Low
Rats and Mice in the stud shed - Let's clean them up: recommend another book in a series that they have been reading, preferably one that is close to being finished.

The Daily Routine
Daily Feed - the highlight of any beast's day: recommend a book from an author that they rate highly.

Rotating Paddocks - mustering the cattle to new pasture: recommend a book from a genre they don't regularly read.

Stud - Putting the bull in the paddock, and let's face it, he's popular: recommend a well-loved classic or a sexy book (we all know what he's doing out there!)

Spread the Love ~ Buddy reads
Poddy Calf - he/she's been abandoned by mother (what a cow!) and in need of care and attention: select a short book to read where the H/h needs love.

Breeding Stock - you're looking to improve the herd and need to select the best line: recommend a book that you think could be a keeper.

Please Note: The buddy read recommendations are NOT optional. If you cannot do the buddy read, you must still recommend a book for each category; just let the person for whom you are picking know that you won't be able to do the read with them.

MountainKat | 1972 comments I'm in! I was a D the last time I was measured - it's been awhile, but I will cling to that almost 5'5" until they tell me I can't!

Daffodil (Daffodil--RIPCranberry) | 815 comments Group D here -- 5'5"

I've always wanted to be taller, but it's not in the genes. I am taller than my mother and all her sisters. In fact, I can remember standing behind Mom and reaching over her to retrieve something off the shelf she wanted but couldn't reach. I also remember the dirty look she gave me when I did it, LOL. Mind you, it was the middle shelf, not the top shelf, but still.

Dee | 5758 comments me please...i'm a C - 5'3", but I can sometimes stretch to 5'3.5...lol!
