I love Lee Smith! I read Fair and Tender Ladies ages ago---my younger sister had to read it for summer reading, and she brought it to the beach that summer but just left it laying around, and finally one day I picked it up and started reading it. The minute I got back home I went to the library and checked out every other book by Lee Smith that I could get my hands on! Interestingly enough I was living in Chapel Hill NC at the time, which is where Lee Smith lives.
Just started both of these:
The Pioneer Woman Cooks Recipes from an Accidental Ranch Wife
The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane

Seconded! She seems like such a lovely woman and her blog is terrific!
I received her cookbook as one of my first reads wins. I have already flipped through it twice and read most of the text. It's wonderful! I wanted to wait until I make a recipe or two before I review, though. hah. :) yumyum!
I want to check out that Pioneer Woman cookbook! I didn't realize it was out already.
I just started reading The Shadow of the Wind.
Me too Sarah. I'm going to see if my library has it or at least if its in the system. We can borrow from something like 65 other libraries!! I'm on a quest now!!
Monika wrote: "i'm starting Winnie and Wolf: A Novel tonight"I tried to read this one, Monica, and I could not get into it at all. Let me know what you think.

Ree Drummond is going to be at our local bookstore tomorrow night at 7!
I am currently reading The host, quite a clever book and I am getting rather involved in the characters lives. I am finding it interesting. I also really want to read Gabriel Garcia Marquez book that I have "Love in the time of cholera. My mum also suggested a book by John Boyne "The boy in the striped pyjamas" she loves true life stories so I wil try and get through all of them eventually. So little time so much too read!!
I am finally reading "Outlander" and loving it! Can't wait to get back to it.. It is a very big book with over 800 wonderful pages!
Andrea...seems everyone has good things to say about Outlander, really good things! It is still on my bookshelf TBR. Enjoy it!

Cindy, I think I read the first three. I was so engrossed, and then I got to the Revolutionary War, and found it repetitive and ho hum, so I never read anymore of them, but the first book is great!
I started Outlander but only got a few pages in. I think I'm just not ready to make the commitment...of reading all of them because I'm sure I will have to continue once I read the first one!
I know, I know, I'm way behind the times! I've just started the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. And I haven't seen the movie, either!

hahaha me too Debbie. I havent read the book or seen the movie either!! LOL
The Pioneer Woman's cookbook is great, I'm loving it :) A fun read! Gorgeous pics.... its like and extension of her blog. Cindy, she's coming here to Dallas Dec 1st and I'm going to try to get my copy signed by her!!

maybe not, because they do become repetitive and it gets boring and confusing. i only made it to the third one.
I saw the movie but not read the book. I have Little Altars Everywhere which is related to the YA-YA books.
That's on bookmooch.
I am reading East of Eden for CoL's chunky read. But I finished this week's "assignment" and tonight will start The Beggar Maid Stories of Flo and Rose. It's my first Munro, and I am looking forward to it.
I've got three going at once:
Julia's Chocolates
One Thousand White Women The Journals of May Dodd
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Ooh - I got that for Christmas either last year or the year before. I started reading it but it wasn't what I thought so I put it down - I've always meant to pick it up again. You must let me know what you think.
Ally
I'm reading Shiver, a very good young adult novel. This would probably be enjoyed by anyone who liked the Twilight books.
I'm currently reading Shinju. It's a murder mystery set in feudal Japan. So far it's pretty good. Her style is easy to read and I like taking an old favorite (murder mystery) and put a new twist on it.

me2. I thought it was a difficult read.

I really liked Shiver
Now I have added one more to my pile of three:
Rainwater by Sandra Brown! I'm a third of the way through already and it is a verey good book! Nothing like she has written before!
About to start
Good thing I am off work for the next 10 days..... time to read for fun and not get behind on school work!
I am reading the Ginseng Hunter. It is written by the author of the Pearl Diver, which I really enjoyed. This books was recommended me to by my friend, Wanda.
Brenda wrote: "Cindy wrote: "Andrea...seems everyone has good things to say about Outlander, really good things! It is still on my bookshelf TBR. Enjoy it!"Cindy, I think I read the first three. I was so e..."
I also enjoyed the first book of Outlander, but I do agree that even with the first book by then end I was a little bored! I love history so this book really appealed to me, but It was repetitive and I ended up moving onto another book, i do have all of the outlander books to date, whether I will go back to them at a later stage I dont know. I have just finished reading THE HOST, a really creative book that i could not put down,(thats the kind of book i like) takes you about 50 pages to get into but well worth it.
Emma, did you also enjoy Twilight? I haven't read any Stephanie Myers yet but have heard everyone raving about her books. Brenda, The Ginseng Hunter sounds interesting...I just sent you a comment!
I am reading The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny right now. It is good so far. I won this as a Goodreads giveaway.
I'm reading East of Eden (this month's chunky read) and The Secret of Everything by Barbara O'Neal, which I received as a goodreads giveaway. I'm really enjoying it so far.
Cammie wrote: "I just started Dragonfly in Amber last night."Yay! DIA is one of the best in the Outlander series (in my humble opinion.)
I'm just starting The Kommandant's Girl. Love fiction from WWI and WWII, so am looking forward to this.
Ooh, that sounds really good, Gayle, you'll have to let us know how it turns out. Did you read Those Who Save Us? Seems like it may be similar.
I'm reading Trading Up by Candace Bushnell. This is the second book I have read by Bushnell, I find her characters (who are always upper class New Yorkers) to be spoiled, whiney, and superficial. I love clothes and jewlery as much as the next girl but some things in life are more important than that. However, despite some annoying character flaws I still find myself wanting to know how their lives play out.
Jennifer W wrote: "Ooh, that sounds really good, Gayle, you'll have to let us know how it turns out. Did you read Those Who Save Us? Seems like it may be similar."Those Who Save Us is about a German woman, which is what makes it somewhat unique.
Gayle wrote: "I'm just starting The Kommandant's Girl. Love fiction from WWI and WWII, so am looking forward to this."adding this one to my list.
