yeah Jessie, I understand how you feel about the end of Harry Potter. But please mark your thread with spoilers in case there are people that haven't read these books! Don't wanna ruin it for them :)

I'm just really emotional I guess, because if I don't cry at some point in a movie or a book... well there is something wrong with that movie or book. I will cry when something is happy and moving, or sad, or sometimes shocking.

Notably, though, Harry Potter makes me cry lol.

One book that really made me cry was Beach Music -Pat Conroy. My sister had just been diagnosed with leukemia and has since lost her battle. This book touched so many things that were going on in my life at that time.

It is a wonderful book about family relationships. It had funny moments in it also,especially the character's brothers and mother.

I don't know what's been up with me lately but the last 3 books I've read have made me cry. They were The Memory Keeper's Daughter, The Last Lecture, and The Bonesetter's Daughter. I am just starting another book and if this one makes me cry, I may be in trouble!

Oh, P.S., I ALWAYS cry whenever a beloved or heroic animal dies, ALWAYS.

Death be Not Proud -- God what a sad sad story and the worse for being true. Brave kid though.

Old yeller. That was awesome book. I cried at the movie,too. Where the red fern gross...another good crying book. Island of the Blue Dolphins made cry and Dicey's song.

Books that made me cry... "A walk to remember", "Message in a bottle", by Nicholas Sparks; I cried a lot while reading "Son of the shadows", by Juliet Marillier (one of my favourites); "My sisters keeper", by Jodi Picoult; "The return of the king", by Tolkien... and many others. It's not difficult for me to cry with books ;-).

I cried tears of happiness when I got done reading Citizen Girl. Does that count?

One that I actually did well up on was The Tall Pine Polka. There was a surprise death in the middle that took me totally off guard.

Oh I completely agree...I went to loan it to a friend of mine the other day and when she asked me what it was about I started to tear up!! I guess having a young daughter of my own really made it real for me...

I saw this topic and thought immediately "Where the Red Fern Grows". It looks like one of my favorite books of all time is agreed upon as one of the saddest.

Oh, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" stabbed me to the core, in a good way though. I was very touched and teared up many times in that book.

And finally, "A Tale of Two Cities". I don't think I have to explain that one.

My Sister's Keeper reduced me to one big, soggy puddle. I read it 3 weeks ago and to this day thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.

I'm going to have to re-read Where the Red Fern Grows because I read it in high school, and I remember loving it to bits...

I have a long list of books that made me cry but can't remember them all offhand. The Book Thief and the final Potter book definitely top that list though...

I am NOT a big crier - it takes alot, but I have three that are pretty standard tear jerkers... My Sisters Keeper, Marley and Me, and The Book Thief (cried more on the last one than the first two put together!).

Here's another for me: Bridges of Madison County. Cried at the book and the movie.

Island of the Blue Dolphins was the first book to ever make me cry (i was probably 8 or 10) and it's still a personal favorite of mine. I'll have to dig it out again now....

It doesn't take too much to make me cry about a book (or movie/TV show for that matter). The ones that come to mind are:
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Scar Tissue by Anthony Keidis
Red by Erica Spindler

I know there have been others but i just can't think of them at the moment.

There were 2 books in the last couple years that really made me cry that I can think of.

Mozart's Sister (most of the book is done off actual letters written by the family. Cried more when I read in the authors notes how close to factual the story is)
Innocent Traitor A Novel of Lady Jane Grey (I even knew what was going to happen going in)

Slammerkin (this one got a little misty but did not cry outright)

You would have to have a heart of stone not to cry at the end of that episode (it's called "Jurassic Bark"). I've known many a grown man, as tough and testosterone-driven as can be, weep like a baby at the end of "Jurassic Bark". The creators of Futurama even admit that it's the most emotionally manipulative episode in the series. Hell, I'd add "Luck of the Fryrish" to the list of weep-worthy Futurama episodes. That's the episode about Fry's brother and Fry's lucky clover.

The beauty of Futurama was that it wasn't afraid to make you feel something other than amusement during any given episode.

Why, yes, I am the world's biggest Futurama geek. Why do you ask? ;)

Well, I guess I should join the club of people who can't handle books about animals, lol. I don't like to cry in general, so I usually avoid anything that looks like it might be a tearjerker.

...Unfortunately I was tricked into watching A Walk To Remember and just recently, Marley & Me ( and yes, I sobbed my eyes out in the theater at that one).

There was this book I read once, about a stray dog a boy finds. The boy grows up and goes to college or something, and the dog waits for him the whole time. When the boy returns to his childhood home, the dog finally dies. Wish I could remember more.

Oh, and to show you how bad I am, I even cried at the Futurama episode with the stray dog.

After sitting at my desktop staring at this thread topic, I realized that quite a few books make me cry so I'll just create a "top six" list:

The book I'm currently reading, The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams, is making me tear up already.

The Kite Runner was definitely a tear-jerker at some points for me. And, this is embarrassing, but I cried a little during Breaking Dawn haha.

The Book Thief -this...I don't think I've ever felt so sad over a book.

They Cage the Animals at Night-this was awful. The book was so sad and the author came to speak at my school, it's a true story of his life. His visit was as if every emotion from the book mulitplied by some uninmaginable number.
My last one is The Wind in the Willows- this book isn't sad, there are just some parts that are so sweet or preciously written that the emotions feel so real. It's why it's my favorite book. I always cry at the chapters 'Dolce Domum' 'Wayfarers All' and 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn' It's why it's my favorite book, it's not even sad and I cry reading those parts everytime ahaha

Where the Red Fern Grows

I still cry when I read it. It gets me every time.

I read Stargirlthis weekend, and while I didn't bawl, it really teared me up. I hated the time she tried to fit in.

Oh my.. I am a major crybaby.. :s Lol.. Here it goes:

Lord of the Rings (At the End of All Things.. This is my favorite novel of all time. THe most amazing, the most beautiful piece of literature that i have been lucky enough to read and I think from the time the 'Eagles' came till the actual end of the book.. )

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban(I got the weeps when Cedric died.. It was the start of the series major deaths.)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ( The death of Sirius was heartbreaking and more because of the way he died.. Kind of half hoping he wasn't actually dead)

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Oh my Lawd.. Do i need to say more? Dumbledore's death was sooo shocking and terrible to me i truly felt like i was mourning for the next few days)

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (.. OH WOW.. Where to start.. Well i think the first time i cried was when they announced the Release Date.. So you can imagine how many tears this book actually brought.. Some weren't even related to the series itself, there were tears of sadness cause it was all ending. In the novel itself the first time i cried was when poor Hedwig died, this was terribly wrong in soo many ways and obviously as more deaths came more tears came everytime a bit more fervent lol.. At the end i thought for a moment that Harry had died and I was pretty much bawling.. So yea. This book got the waterworks on me like no other.. Which is why i haven't been able to read it again..)

Flowers for Algernon (Sadness)

Brisingr (From the Inheritance Series by C. Paolini) (The death of Glaedr shook my world entirely and i started bawling at Borders. People were staring at me and 2 guys actually stopped to ask if i was alright.. :/ I know im a crybaby..)

New Moon (When Edward leaves Bella.. WOW)

The Children of Hurin by J.R.R. Tolkien (The saddest, most tragic story that I've ever read in my life)

And so much more.. but i'll stop now, i got carried away.. Like usual :P

That's quite interesting Jess, do you read Harry Potter series in one go? Somehow the characterisation has growned deeper in you, I guess? But I found it difficult about Harry Potter, since thre is a hug gap between one release to another..
