I've been eating up her Griffin family series like tic tacs the last few days.
I know East has started reading her recently as well; anyone else?
What are your favorite Enoch books?
Apparently she has some good and not so good. My favourites so far:
A MATTER OF SCANDAL
THE RAKE (book 1 in the Lessons in Love trilogy)
A reader favourite is supposed to be LONDON'S PERFECT SCOOUNDREL which is book 2 in the trilogy. I still have that one on TBR.
Kayleigh what are the books in the Griffin Family?
Sin and SensibilityAn Invitation to Sin
Something Sinful
Sins of a Duke
I read SINS OF A DUKE first, then SIN AND SENSIBILITY, and now I'm reading AN INVITATION TO SIN. After this I think I will try THE RAKE.
I did catch her in a boo-boo, though. In the fourth book, Sebastian is 34. In the first book, which takes place a few years earlier, he's 32. Now in the second book, which takes place right on the heels of the first, he's suddenly 34 again! Oops...

I'm just testing it to see how it works.
I read Reforming a Rake and was disappointed. There was a big build up of tension, and then only a couple of paragraphs were devoted to their lovemaking. I wanted more hot sex! Are any of her other books more dedicated to wallowing in the sheets?
Addicted,The ones I've read so far have some sex. Not as much as I generally like (what can I say, I'm a perv), but I didn't put it down feeling gypped or anything.
Hm...I really liked SIN & SENSIBILITY. The hero is one of those bad boy alpha types that I just drool over. I think there were only two sex scenes, though. But I have only read the Griffin Family series so far, which I've gathered from readers/reviews is not her best. I just started THE RAKE, and I'm going to work my way through her LESSONS IN LOVE trilogy.
Have you read any Gayle Eden? Some of her stuff is just so-so, but some of it is great; she's one that doesn't skimp on the sex.
No, I haven't heard about Gayle Eden. My favorite is Lisa Kleypas. I've read all of hers, all of Jacquie D'Alessandro, Gaelen Foley, and Loretta Chase. I've been looking around for a new author to get obsessed with.
I have the last two to read in the Griffin Family Series- Shay & Sebastian's books and I just can't pick them up. Maybe I am just burnt out on the so-so romance books I have been reading lately because I have gone through my books and pulled out old favorites and started reading them again.
I loved Shay's book. Sebastian's was only so-so, but it did make me fall in love with the other characters enough to go back and read the rest of the series.
I thought Enoch's THE RAKE had some very good sex scenes that didn't follow your typical historical romance pattern. I haven't read the others you've all mentioned and didn't particularly like --and I'll be staying away as well (lol!)
East,SINS OF A DUKE is the 4th and final Griffin Family book, and if you read the first three (which are good), you will probably want to read it because the hero is the eldest Griffin brother (the Duke), a widower with a six year old daughter, and their characters really warm the heart in the first three book and make you want to know what happens to them. Jane's review is on point, and mirror what I thought: http://dearauthor.com/wordpress/2007/06/...
If you're like me and love the bad bad bad boy, definitely check out SIN & SENSIBILITY. You will love Valentine Corbett.
Ooo Kayleigh now you've piqued my interest with the "bad bad bad boy" --I think I may have a coupon that's burning a hole in my pocket so I'll just have to pick up SIN AND SENSIBILITY I think (lol!)
Oh yea Valentine was such a bad boy! One of my favorite characters by her. I really like England's Perfect Hero (#3 in Lessons of Love) Robert (Bit) the tortured soul. I like how all the characters from all 3 books get together.
*sighs* Valentine...I swear I was born in the wrong century. They just dont' make men like that anymore (okay and possibly they never did, since he's fictional, but I can dream); and am I the only one who thinks a nice pair of tan breeches, Hessians, and a cravat are unbelievably sexy??I've just started THE RAKE, and already I like Bit. I'd read that book three was his, and I'm looking forward to it.
Just finished book 2 in her Lessons in Love series, LONDON'S PERFECT SCOUNDREL --one more to go and the series is over :( But I have REFORMING THE RAKE and SIN AND SENSIBILITY on TBR :D
East, will you be writing a review on London's Perfect Scoundrel? Didja like it? I found a copy on PBS that I might just order!!
Tammy I just put up a review. The book was excellent! 5 stars. I think you'll really like it. I swear Kleypas' St Vincent was the hero's brother!! (LOL!)
Kayleigh it's a toss up now between SIN AND SENSIBILITY and ENGLAND'S PERFECT HERO --what to do what to do! ;)
I totally loved St. Aubyn and how he threatened her all the time in hushed whispers if she wouldn't do something --god he sizzled!!!
Hey I finally got your book in the mail :D It's in the queue :D
East, I liked Sin & Sensibility better - another bad boy with Valentine Corbett. Most Enoch fans cite Perfect Hero as their favorite. I liked it, but it wasn't my top pick. I hope you enjoy my book. And even if you don't, let me know what you think. If you hate it, that's okay, I can take some criticism. :P
Kay
Kayleigh I'm about 100 pages in and I really like Valentine but I want MORE of him like you get with St Aubyn. I think that's going to change now though as he's accepted to be Eleanor's "guide" ;) I love his dry humor and devil may care attitude.
I haven't read THE PERFECT HERO yet because the story doesn't sound that great but it's got 4+ stars in overall GR ratings so smthg about it must be good.
I'll let you know once I get to read your book :)
Kayleigh, what an awesome recommendation you made with SIN AND SENSIBILITY! I adored Valentine Corbett!! The opening pages of the book had me doing 3 rereads to make sure I understood what I had suspected was going on--brilliant! And that love scene --p-e-r-f-e-c-t!! Know any more like this??????? (please say yes and list :) )
I'm starting her REFORMING THE RAKE now. I'm on a bad boy kick ;)
East,So glad someone else shares my Valentine obsession. I, too, could hardly believe that opening scene.
The others in the Griffin series are good, but none are quite like SIN & SENSIBILITY. The next book, INVITATION TO SIN is Zachary's. SOMETHING SINFUL is Charlemagne, and SINS OF A DUKE is Sebastian.
I enjoyed THE RAKE, which is the prequel (of sorts) to LONDON'S PERFECT SCOUNDREL.
Kayleigh I swear I went bugged eyed at those first few pages of SIN AND SENSIBILITY! Talk about shocking the reader out of their comfort zone (lol!) Valentine is a fabulous character :D
I liked THE RAKE too --Tristan was great! Have you read her earlier books? The Bancroft Brothers series? Or her newest Nortorious Gentlemen series? I'm going to pick them all up and see what they're like. I wonder if her contemporaries are as good as her historicals???
And all it took was that first scene for me to love him, too. Most authors (hell, I do it, so throw me in there) talk about how their hero is such a bad boy rake, but few actually show that to the reader in any way, or at least, not in THAT way. And it was so appropriate for his character, too. "Take me or leave me, reader, this is who I am."I have the Notorious Gentlemen in my TBR pile. I also have A MATTER OF SCANDAL in there, which ties into THE RAKE.
I'm not that big on contempos, unless they have some sort of paranormal and/or extra kinky bent. Straight contempo tends to bore me. That being said, I haven't even checked out any of hers, so I don't know what sort they are.
You hit the nail on the head with the "Take me or leave me reader" to describe Val's character. That whole first scene was just brilliant and really showed who he was. I think that scene will be seared into my head for a good long while (lol!)
OK ... if REFORMING THE RAKE is the prequel to LONDON'S PERFECT SCOUNDREL (which I just finished) ... does that mean it is Georgie's story? I'm a little intrigued with Dare right now!
Tammy, REFORMING THE RAKE is not the prequel to LONDON'S PERFECT SCOUNDREL. THE RAKE is the prequel --it's the Lessons in Love series. REFORMING THE RAKE is part of the With this Ring series. Hate when authors use similar titles.
Sounds confusing! I guess I need to stop being lazy and go check out Enoch's series list on Fantastic Fiction.
tammy she has a booklist on her site too. The Lessons in Love series is: The Rake
London's Perfect Scoundrel
England's Perfect Hero
I just finished REFORMING THE RAKE and it was really good! The verbal sparring is excellent! 4.5 stars for me :)
I loved her gender-bender Lady Rogue and so I got a bunch of her other books and just couldn't get into them...
Maybe I'm just a fan of gender-benders?
Which I am...
Her latest The Care and Taming of a Rogue had a great hero I thought but the story wasn't necessarily as great as some of her other really good stories.
