Yes, the plot of Breaking Dawn was sappy and silly to the absurd, the book ended gratuitously well, and like the others was not particularly well-written...but I loved it anyway, because I, too, am still a goofy teenage girl at heart, and I want to see love prevail over all and I want everything to work out. I also got a kick out of how the whole Romeo and Juliet theme Meyer was attempting throughout the series was reconciled: they die...and live happily ever after.

I totally agree with you :)

Who cares if it is corny. I think it is funny. I want a "I love Judge Bob" t-shirt from "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" but I don't even know if they exist. Now that is corny, and I'm proud of it!

i liked breaking dawn i thought is was really good but the ending was a little cheesy. i would have liked her to have left it a bit open even if she wasnt going to write another book to keep people guessing but it was a happily ever after moment that was a bit of a cheesy thing to do after all the drama that happened in the 4 books. Im glad they stayed together though cos i would have been disappointed if one of them died
I have all the Vampire Kisses books to read, but I just haven't started on them yet. I am glad they are good!
When I read Twilight, I could see why the teenage girls would love them. I actually liked Meyer's writing style and attributed it to the romance novels I use to read when I was a young girl. I am with everyone who says the Bella character was a little too prima donna. So, I like to introduce my twilight readers to another series along the same vine (human girl falls in love with a vampire) called Vampire Kisses. In this series, the main character is a goth girl who lets no one tell her what to do and is a very strong female character. The books are very short (only about 100-200 pages each) but there is no reputation either.
I really like the first couple of books but I liked them for what they are. The writing is not fantastic but it's a quick love story read. I don't think anything is wrong with liking Twilight books and it is great to have different opinions!
ya. you shouldnt let other people tell you what is good and what isnt. then you really arent pleasing yourself! and you are all that matters.
Life is too short to worry about what other people think about what you read. Who cares? You preferences are just that. YOURS. :)
Everyone has their different opinions... personally I didn't like the series that much, but if you like them, don't just hate them because other people do. Don't listen to what other people say about a series, read what YOU like to read.
Okay so everyone knows im a teenage girl that LOVES romance. I found the series good. But thats just me. I'm 15 and haven't had a serious boyfriend yet. So is this me just being a 15 year old girl or has my reading taste gotten as bad as my friends imply?
I am fascinated that so many people love these books. I read Twilight and was not impressed. 400 pages were back and forth about Edward and Bella and it got old. Fast. I read about half of New Moon and couldn't take any more of the mediocre writing and flat characters. It was utterly dull. Utterly boring. And I've read what happens in Breaking Dawn and I couldn't picture making myself read that load of crap.
Steph wrote: "I read Twilight, skipped New Moon, and skimmed New Moon. I was worn out by then. Too much. Over-the-top, repetitive writing style. I think once I go through the process of meeting and discoveri..."Hear hear! Yeah, I felt like The Host was just another romance novel masked as a sci-fi book. I haven't read the Twilight series though, and I don't plan on it.
also so many people think they can relate to bella but as i see it she is just a character and cannot be related to at all... in any way shape or form
I have to say at first i was in love with twilight (all of the books actually) and read them all very quickly. i was a "twi-hard" but then the books got around the school and its all anybody would talk about! twilight this twilight that "ooo this is just like when this happend in twilight" there was no end!!! and just as fast as i fell in love with the books i ended up completly annoyed with them. now i would say my twilight days are over... (haha!) and i cant stand anything to do with it... they are talked about too much and thats what ruined it for me... i have to say the movie was HORRIABLE!!! i might see new moon to see if its as bad but not because i am some wacko fan... so there you have it... my twilight story ... haha :)
Sara wrote: Personally, I hated the series. Hahaha- okay well that is not fair. I liked the first book. Despised the second...and could not even bring myself to finish the rest. It's quite rare that I do not finish a series but I feel as though she plugged the other books, just because she felt like it- not because there was anything left to say. Alas, Im sure many would disagree with me :PNot me. I actually agree with you. I liked the first book when I read it, I told myself I liked #2 and #3, but whenever I'd try to re-read 2 or 3, I just couldn't get into it. Too boring. I got sick of Bella/Edward because it was basically the same thing over and over and over in each book. There was too much emphasis on B/E and not enough use of other characters. I read Breaking Dawn when it came out because I wanted to finish the series and see exactly what Meyer was going to do with it. I hated BD. It was awful.
*SPOILERS*
I hated that Bella got a baby after all, I hated that Meyer wrote the weird twist with the baby and Jacob, I didn't like how Bella got the most perfect of perfect endings, with no real sacrifice. She got to keep everything we were told she'd have to give up. I didn't like how all the characters were so out of character, and most of them under used. I hated that there was such build up for a Volturi battle and it fizzled with talk that bored me to tears...literally.
*END SPOILERS*
After BD, not even Twilight felt the same. It was all just ruined for me. I think one of the problems with the Twilight books, is that they are very repetitive. You could cut a 1/3 to almost a 1/2 of each book and they wouldn't be losing anything important. Meyer just went overboard on the lovey dovey fluff and Bella was just too much of a Mary Sue. She's a terrible heroine, IMO. But what I really disliked about the books, is when I read them, I felt like perfection and beauty were just too important, as it was mentioned quite a bit throughout the books. It just came off as very shallow.
Well, I liked the story, but the writing style is pretty bad, and in no way would Bella have been my choice for a heroin.
Chandani wrote: "I think that Bella is a horrible stereotypical excuse for a heroin. She seems to lack enough common sense to realize that vampires might not be the best of company. She is supposed to be clumsy so..."
hahaha, this made me laugh. I like your points.
Did anyone watch the MTV movie awards? Twilight won a lot of awards and you get to see a lot of the actors. Kristen even swings her award across the stage by accident.
ohmigod *dies* i've watched it a zillion times. it looks so awesome. :) lol. i love jasper attacking bella in slo-mo ... and jacob <3 hehehe ^_^
i agree, i hate when ppl just hate popular books because they think it makes them "different" or something. lol.aaahhh can't wait for "new moon" movie ;D
I felt that the last book just didn't have enough of the story built up, it felt like it only started AFTER her baby. Otherwise, I personally really liked the series and hate it when people bash on it when they hav'nt even read it.
So excited for the new movie!

ya i hated breaking dawn... but i was a jacob fan so that had some impact on my decision haha
♥ Brigid ♥ wrote: "The fourth book was kinda funny though, just bc it was soooo corny. :] hehe"
Hahaha perhaps one day...when I have nothing to read and in the mood for a good laugh, I will give it a go :P
Angie wrote: "I thought the third book was worth the read... the 4th book skip it! YUCK! "
Hahaha, so I've heard! I know the plot details and thought that to myself.
Angie wrote: "Thought we could start a thread on Twilight. This thread will have spoilers for all 4 books, you are warned!
Personally I hated how the series ended. What about everyone else? "

Hahaha ;D Make up can do a lotta work though I guess. Do they start shooting soon? If not he might still loose some of it anyway.
I've heard about that and I'm kind of disappointed because I don't really like Taylor Lautner (haven't seen the movie yet though) but if they'll change his appearance etc. in connection with the changes he goes through in the story maybe I'll be surprised.
Not sure if anyone knew anything about this, but for a while there they were not going to bring back the same actor to play Jacob in New Moon, but looks like they just reached a decision: January 7, 2009
Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best
Chris Weitz
I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year.

Definitely, that's what I was trying to tell my students.. looking back, if I had ended up with my Edward, it could have been disastrous... so I understand both positions, and why it needed to be Edward for her.
Yes Jacob was the smarter choice... but Edward is just that guy. He almost seems the bad boy type and everyone falls for a bad guy at least one.
lol, yes. I've only read it once, and I found that Romeo was overly... whiney, to put it frankly. Either he was gushy, or he was whiney, or he jumped to conclusions, which Edward kind of is, but he is also more.
It's definitely a more complex relationship than that of Romeo and Juliet, I just thought it was funny that though they knew they both died, when I put on the modern movie and she opened her eyes before he took the poison, everyone reacted. It was as if they thought there could have been a happy ending. I think Meyers was definitely trying to use it as a comparison too thougn, if I remember correctly, Bella was reading the play when she and Edward were first together. But that really is as far as the comparisons go. To be perfectly honest, I have come to be annoyed by the relationship in the play, at least I understand some of Bella's mentality, well except for the vampire part :)
In my opinion, Edward and Bella's story is much more interesting and complex than that of Romeo and Juliet, but I can see the connections.Everyone that has read the book at my school knew that they had to end up having a happily ever after, even the ones on Team Jacob, albeit grudgingly.
The fantasy of living life with your first love... Yes, I can see where that comes in. Though Bella annoys me here. Her first love is a vampire who has to fight himself not to kill her. Has she no sense of self preservation?
