1069643 Hi everybody!

The Code of Behavior

* Be courteous!

* Post topics and comments in the proper folder--if you don't see an appropriate one, just add a folder.

*I'm adopting a new policy some of the other groups use--if you aren't participating in the group but are self-promoting in posts, your post will be put in the SPAM folder! SPAM Events will be deleted.

* Only the moderators can add books to the bookshelf, but you can post about any book you like in the discussion folder "More books to love to death". We'll be scanning them periodically and adding relevant titles to the bookshelf.

* Overwhelmed? Go read a topic that interests you. Under the group icon for Study Buddies, you'll see topics: all | new | unread. Click on unread, then you will see a list of messages marked "new" in red. The link will now say unread-participated. Clicking on this will only show you new messages for discussion threads you've read before!

If reading a long thread, the upper right link will say "newest >" and will fast-forward you to the most recent messages. Thank you TNBBC, for teaching me this! You think jumping into things here is hard, TNBBC is downright scary at first! And then you'll find the water is warm and the people are friendly.

Dive in!

***Lastly, *have FUN*!!!***

112377 Hi everyone! I agree that this series is terrific (though the first is definitely my favorite). I'm excited to be in this group and, of course, to see what Maria will be up to next!

message 5: by Manuel (new)

1536282 Great to see a coalescing of Maria Fans. Especially for the Study books!

1306868 Hey guys!
I'm so excited to see a Study group on here, this is by far one of my favorite series ever written.
Just an FYI, the first time I logged on to join this site, my friend Mary Anne was logged in, and I accidentally joined and created a poll under her name. I've since corrected it, but if you see anything by a mystery member named Mary Anne, it was just me!
Happy to be here!

1480438 Hi everyone! I'm so glad that there's more Study crazies out there besides me and Alethea. Ari and Janco are my favorites.

message 8: by Leah (new)

991225 Thanks for inviting me to join. I was just browsing around Goodreads the other day wondering where the people were who like the books I like, and Poison Study has been my favorite book this summer. I just ordered the next two from Amazon.

message 9: by E. (new)

1215148 Hi All! I'm glad to find more Study fans.

message 10: by Heather (new)

647659 Thanks Alethea for the invite. I haven't read the Magic or Fire study yet, as my to be read list just keeps getting longer and longer. I really need to stop buying books and read more. I am hoping to get to these books soon. I did enjoy Poison study and hope the other books are just as good.

message 11: by Laureen (new)

1097564 Hello! Loved Poison Study. I haven't gotten the time to read the rest, but I know I like her style.

I've recommended this book to others who are looking for a good, strong feminine character.

message 12: by Valerie (new)

226653 Loved the M. Snyder's books. I've read them all and am waiting for her latest offering in the series.

message 13: by Alfonso (new)

1320204 Jane recommended the book to me and I did enjoy the first one. I will be reading the next two in between reading some other books that I have to get through. I hope the the next two are as good as the first one.

57722 Maria is not just a great writer, but an awesome lady and a great teacher as well. She's a graduate of the same Master's program I'm currently in at Seton Hill U, and she comes back to teach during our residency periods (it's a low residency program). Had us rolling with laughter during her last class...

Loved Poison Study! First book in a while that I finished in a day. I haven't read the rest of the Study books yet, due to school reading and writing taking up all my free time, but they're next on the stack.

message 15: by deleted member (new)

Hi there!
I've read all three books and loved them. I especially like Valek. He's such an interesting guy ;)

Ann, you mentioned the Master's program at Seton Hill. I've considered applying, but it would be nice to know more about it from an insider's point of view. Is there anything you'd be willing to share with me about the program? If you don't want to discuss it here, feel free to send a message to my inbox. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and reading more books by Maria V. Snyder!

message 16: by Ann (new)

57722 Suzann,

Sure! I'm pretty much willing to talk about anything about the program.

I don't know if anyone else wants to hear about it, so we can take it private if it's not of interest to anyone else.

message 17: by Alethea (new)

1069643 Ann and Suzann,

That's pretty interesting, actually! Feel free to create a new topic under the heading Off Topic (you'll see I have one there already). I'm sure those writer-types of us would love to hear about it, and/or daydream of taking a writing class with MVS someday ;) even if we live clear across the country at the moment...

message 18: by Mic (new)

1142951 Thanks for the invite to the group! I loved the study books! Glad to see others enjoyed them as much as I do. I'm am extremely excited to see more books in the future from Maria! I keep hoping that Fire Study isn't the last we heard of Yelena and Co.

message 19: by deleted member (new)

Cool! Thanks Alethea. And Ann, I'm looking forward to reading anything you might post about the school, the program, etc. :)

message 20: by Peanut (new)

391295 Thanks for the invite to join the group. I loved this series. Poison Study was the best. The other two were good with the last book being the weakest for me.

I am looking forward to the new series though.

message 21: by Gisela (new)

1587017 I don't usually go for books narrated in first person, but I totally loved the cover and I bought it. Boy was I happy I did! It's a wonderful book, and that Valek! I fell in love with him instantly, but who didn't?

message 22: by Tianna (new)

1169734 I loved the first one! And immediately ordered the second one. Thanks for the invite, Alethea! :)

message 23: by Michelle (new)

1525355 I started Poison Study a week ago and got hooked! I just finished Fire Study today! The series was so good, I might just have to start reading It again! ;-)

message 24: by Alethea (new)

1069643 I know what you mean, Michelle. I think the next time I read through Poison Study I'll surpass the number of times I read Twilight!

message 25: by Christina (new)

1292527 Hi everyone!
I just read "Poison Study" but I really loved it and can't wait to get my edition of "Magic Study" as well. Maria is such a great author and it's a shame that almost anyone knows her in Germany! But I'm trying hard to change that ;)! I recommend her books to a few friends and told them to say it everybody else if they liked them, too!

P.S.-I'm new in this group and no natural english speaker, so if I make mistakes during my posting, please forgive me ;)!

message 26: by Alethea (new)

1069643 Christina,

You're doing great! Better than some folks I had English class with last semester :-P Thanks for supporting Maria in Germany, and have fun posting!

message 27: by Liz (new)

998700 Thanks for inviting me to join this group! I really enjoyed the study books. when I read Poison Study a couple of months ago, it was one of the most intersting and unique books I had read for a long time.

message 28: by Lexie (new)

712966 I knew I shoulda hung around Goodreads more often. Gotta find Study friends somehow right? I've already converted all the friends that could stand to listen to me :)

Looking forward to hanging around!

message 29: by Liz (new)

1487621 I just got someone else to read the Study books! I'm going for 100 people... so far 38 peeps. Not bad for a month's work. =)

message 30: by Alethea (new)

1069643 OMG Liz I knew you'd be the one to try to break my record. I think Jane and I together made up 100! and now I've lost track... oh well, Malcolm Gladwell will have to do his own research to track down how we got Poison Study to the Tipping Point! I did tell MVS you'd be the one to get all of UCLA reading her books!

message 31: by Lexie (new)

712966 My personal self has gotten only about a dozen and half people to read the books. My friend, Des, had brought a copy to a convention and while waiting in the long lines (for concerts, autograph signings, the dealer's rooms...honestly Conventions are GREAT for people who love waiting in lines)and either read passages out loud, or passed the book around for people to read (depending on interest/length of wait). My friend Melissa passed it onto a few people and so did my younger sister. I won't set a goal however since those who do read in my friendship circle have been converted.

message 32: by Kim (new)

112377 I know I've indirectly gotten a lot of people to read the series, but I don't know how many. I recommended it to a friend who works in a bookstore, who read it and liked it, ordered some copies and recommended it to customers. She said it sold a lot of copies.
Back in the day, I worked at an independent bookstore and we wrote up recommendations for the books we liked. Now I just have hope that people are reading my reviews here on Goodreads, and of course that my friends listen when I share my favorites with them. Which they usually do!

message 33: by Jane (new)

1480438 I think people immediately latch on to great readers. Am I the only one who gets asked by acquaintances what's a good read? It's understandable when a customer at a bookstore or a library patron asks me, but it's odd when someone you barely know emails you for reading lists.

message 34: by Lexie (new)

712966 I get asked quite often by friends on LJ or facebook or on one of the book forums I belong to. Actually a funny story. I was at a used book sale because those things are better then anything else and a lady saw me with a few bags of books. She turned to me with about five and asked 'Do you think these would sound good for my daughter, she's about your age.' Assuming she meant her daughter is a teen (we were in young adult and I look about 15 on a good day) I looked at her choices (some Christopher Pike's) and then asked her what sort of things her daughter liked. After she was done I told her to give me a moment, dashed to the other side of the room and grabbed a bunch of teen fantasy and supernatural books and handed them to her. A hour or so later I saw the lady again and she said her daughter loved the choices, she was in the car reading them right at that moment in fact and asked me to help her find books for herself now.

I've always been the go-to gal in school when someone needed a book that would suit them perfectly for a report or just for fun (since I memorized the library database).

327471 I really loved the first book of this series and keep kicking myself for not reading the second one yet, with a third one coming out. I'm also really excited for her new series.

message 36: by Raissa (new)

1647365 Valek is my favorite character along with Ari and Janco. those two are so funny when they're together it makes the book so much better than it already is. Valek is just like a type of ninja who sneaks around and I love ninjas.

message 37: by Alethea (new)

1069643 Raissa, thank you! Valek is totally a ninja. I hope if they ever make a movie they really take advantage of that now-you-see-him, now-you-don't ninja quality. I occasionally also think of John Turturro's character, Emilio in Mr. Deeds--you know, "sneaky-sneaky".

If you love the Power Twins, you'll get right along with Jane. ;-)

message 38: by Meme (new)

1605775 Christina don't worry about your English, that is my language and I still don't get it right, LOL and I've had 27 years to learn it.

message 39: by ExoticRogue (new)

1635223 Hello,I'm new. I've read poison and magic. I've yet to read Fire study. I still want to read her books. I loved the first two.

message 40: by Raissa (new)

1647365 Althea, I really, really wish they'd make a movie. I'd love to see Valek, Ari, and Janco on screen, especially Valek. And I can definitely see Valek as Emilio. What I kind of didn't like was the voice of Valek in the book promotion video thing on her website.

message 41: by Donna (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hi all.

I read Poison Study and loved it. Cant wait until I can get the others but sadly probably wont happen until after Christmas.

Glad I found this group, been browsing the posts and it seems like its going to be fun.

Donna

message 42: by Stephanie (new)

1690572 I love the series. I just picked up Fire Study today and I can't wait to get started! Thank you so much for the invite to Study Buddies!!!!

message 43: by Alethea (new)

1069643 Welcome Donna and Stephanie! Happy reading/posting/polling... it's a bit quite around here at the moment but most of us normally talkative types are prepping for finals right now, so I think that's sapping most of our time. ;-) For those that are *really* literally studying, good luck on your tests, buddy!

message 44: by Teenie (new)

1671740 I love these books and got one of my friends to read them and she loved them!

Hi!

I just found this site from a link on a author's website. I ordered the study books on a whim last summer and I love them! I have looked though this group and it seems fun.

Nancy

message 46: by Mara (new)

950393 Hello. I've been apart of the Study Buddies for sometime and have finally decided to stop lerking.

I loved reading the Study books and am looking forward to reading more by Maria. I'm also excited to be a part of this group and it's fountain of book recommendations. Unfortuately, it has probably doubled my 'to-read' list and I'm not sure when I'll be able to get to it all (I'm a stay at home mom and my little one keeps me busy).

Thanks to everyone that has made this group! Hopefully, I'll be able to participate more.

~Mara

message 47: by Susan (new)

1172970 Thanks for the invite. I LOVED these books and devoured them quickly and have passed them on to a friend now. Are there going to be more in this series? Someone in one of the Twilight groups turned me on to them and I was so glad they did. I look forward to reading more from her!

message 48: by Alethea (new)

1069643 Susan wrote: "Are there going to be more in this series? "

Oh yessirree bob! Storm Glass is due out Apr 28-May 1 (thereabouts) next year in the US, with Sea Glass due only 4 months later. Maria just signed on for the 3rd Glass book (the series is about Opal Cowen, the glassmaker from Magic and Fire Study) plus 2 others (topics still TBD! so stay tuned :-)

Welcome, putter around the site and don't be afraid to post, post, post!
