I had read malayalam version of a tamil novel - I think it is chilapathikaram - not sure - along time back. It was an engrossing work
Thanks for the link mathi.. This would help all non-tamils to read Ponniyin selvan, one of the best historical fiction novel ever written in Tamil..

Recently I read two tamil books. Both are non fiction about Eelam Freedom Struggle (Yes, It is struggle for freedom). First one
, was a book by Tamilnathy, who is an Eelam immigrant. This book shows the real pain of being away from home and feeling stranger in your homeland.Second one,
, was by Fr. Jegath Gasper, that describes a lot of background about the struggle and the way LTTE was organised. The interviews of Prbhakaran and fellow Tigers was very well covered and making us wonder why do India hate them when they are expecting us to help them. Must read for all those who can read tamil to know reality of tamil struggle in Lanka.
Anbu, every time I read one of your reviews about tamil books I get angry because you write beautiful reviews that intrigue me but I already know that I can't never read those books. Argh!

Aravind wrote: "I have seen English translation of Ponniyin Selvan in bookshops, anyone read that? if so how is the translated version?"I haven't read it.. But i am not sure whether anyone could reproduce the wittiness of Kalki in the translation..

I tried one or two Sandilyan's works.. They were ok read.. (true, Im expecting too much when I compare all the historical fictions with PS, but what to do? Kalki set the benchmark which no one could match.. :-))
I haven't tried Akilan.. May be I will be on the look out for those..

the description sounds intresting.
