1451884 Jen, I can pick a copy up for you in 3 weeks! *^o^*

580431 I have not seen the book, but thanks for the suggestion! Looks like it's a UK book that is being reissued in the States in Jan '10?

2484776 Has anyone seen the book Incarceron by Catherine Fisher?
It sounds like a Mix of The Forest Of Hands and teeth ,Hunger Games & Catching Fire.

1066511 *lol* I guess it sounds good if you're not me. :D I like my sparkly happy endings. Not that I refuse to read anything else, but I doubt I'd pick it up and go "ohhh, yay!" :D But I hope that you enjoy it!

I think I'm going to borrow Let the Right One In and give it a shot.

1537498 House Rules

I came across it the other day at Target. It sounds good.

message 156: by Sans (new)

1451884 I did try and I did fail. ;_; It's not sparkly at all. Definitely more in the horror genre (though nowhere near The Strain). Gena read it in a few days and absolutely loved it. She said you find out a TON more info on Eli and exactly what she is (well, how vampires are different from other vamp books anyway).

I did like the movie. Does that help? ^o^

580431 Sans tried to read it after we both saw the movie, but not sure if she finished it.

1066511 Has anyone in here read Let The Right One In yet? Supposed to be a vampire novel for the more serious set (as in, no sparkling).

1066511 I completely agree - the first one was harsh but there was enough to the characters, etc. that I still want to read book 2!

986586 Thanks for the offer! You are so great!

I want to hear what you thought of it first. I don't know if you remember but I did not just love the first one because it was harsh but I am thinking now that I know what to expect from his writing that I would like to continue the story.

580431 Jenn, I got it in the mail yesterday! Do you want to borrow it after I finish reading it? I mean, if you're interested. :)

message 150: by Jenn (new)

986586 Has anyone picked up The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson yet? I am really interested to hear how the second one is.

1147290 Susan, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is wonderful. It's told from a child's perspective and is very moving. The movie is incredible also. Definitely watch it after reading the book.

message 148: by Susan (new)

1758892 The book that caught my eye recently isThe Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne. It tells the story about a German boy during the time of the holocaust.

986586 For those Women's Murder Club fans - 8th Confession
by James Patterson is out on April 29th

1546959 I had a reco for "The Shack". Then, my cousin gave it to me for Easter, so it is one in my line-up of many.

message 144: by Jenn (new)

986586 I had been keeping an eye out because I felt like it could go into a series and I hope it doesn't dissapoint. I love how much it made me laugh!

1066511 Really!?!? I had no idea there would be another one!!! That's awesome! (Obviously, judging by the sheer amount of punctuation...)

580431 Thanks, Jenn!

Dom, I think there are many of us (sorry Sarah). Hey, maybe instead of a group we could invent some device that could realease one page at a time with a timer attached. We could make a fortune cause any real skipper would probably eventually find a way to break it and then they would need to buy our next more secure version as a replacement. Then we can afford our book habit. LOL

Ok, it's like the biggest spoiler ever, so you have to let me know if you really reeeeaaalllly want to know.

Sans, Robin Hood BBC is fun, but a touch on the cheezy/campy side. (As you can see from the Dead Ringer spoofs! Very funny, btw.)

Julie, North and South is pretty much THE reason I love Richard so. He's pretty creepy and slimy in Robin Hood, so it isn't because of that series. Haha!

message 132: by Sans (new)

1451884 I have the first season of Robin Hood but I haven't watched it yet. I keep getting distracted too. And I think of Dead Ringers every time I try to watch the show.

1066511 I lovvvvvve Richard Armitage... 90% just because of North and South. Which, by the way, is marvelous in case anyone hasn't watched it yet.

Dom - I thought Hunted was ok... pretty much more of the same. It's entertaining enough to keep me reading but I just want to smack the crap out of Zoey because she has her head soooooo far up her behind regarding guys/relationships. Good grief! Even when she makes major mistakes on that front and keeps claiming to have learned from them, she doesn't really change her behavior at all. Even so? I'll still keep reading the series, assuming there are more.

1460399 I DVD'd the first season, too. I haven't finished the second. I got sidetracked with reading and Grey's Anatomy and craziness with Heroes. What happened?!

Edit: OMG! I just looked it up. WTF?! I'm still gonna watch though. Season 3 is on BBC One, but doesn't start on BBC America for a while. I'll have to be satisfied with Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD for now.

Edit2: Ok, I'm still pissed about this. WTF?! You can't just do that! There better be some miracles involved or vampires or magic...something. Grrrr LOL

Dom!!! You watch that series too??? I DVD'd the first season but stopped a few eps into Season 2 because I read a spoiler about how it ended and it made me mad. Did that really happen?? I read that Season 3 starts March 28!

Man, that was when I was obsessed with Richard Armitage. *sighs*

Julie, what did you think about Hunted? I'm reading Untamed first. Well, re-reading it because I skimmed the first time. Which reminds me...

Hi, Lisarenee. My name is Dominique and I'm a skipper, too. *sigh* I thought I had cured myself of that nasty habit when I ruined a book for myself years ago, but it's a hard habit to break, and I do have relapses. OOoohh, who should be our sponsor??? We should have someone to talk to when we think we're going to skip and ruin the mystery/journey of the book.

No, but it's on my radar, too. I'm very curious since I got super-addicted to the Robin Hood series on BBC America. Yes, I am a dork.

That doesn't sound like a Jayne book either! :-) Thanks for the review, Julie.

986586 Thanks Julie for your response! I hate it when I put in all this work for a book and I don't get much out of it!

I was REALLYREALLYREALLY close to just setting this book aside after it had started to go haywire, and I skimmed the entire rest of the book to find out what happened... but, in the end I actually did go back and read the whole thing. There are so many unanswered questions that I may read the second book even though I didn't really enjoy book 1.

Some of it was my own personal taste in how I prefer my plots to go, but I have to say that I also felt that the characters were very flat and I didn't CARE what happened to them. Apparently I am in the minority, though, because it's getting very good reviews on GoodReads. So, don't let my viewpoint make you avoid it if it sounds interesting.

986586 Julie - I am interested to hear about The Forrest of Hands and Teeth.

1066511 LOL.... I too find that if a book is boring the snot out of me I will skim through the next part, but then I make myself go back and read it through properly. The worst case I can think of is The Other Boleyn Girl. Somewhere around page 350 out of 700-something I just couldn't take it anymore and ended up skimming all the way to the end of the book. I DID go back and actually read the parts I'd skimmed, though.

Three Cups of Tea is the only book I can think of that I got so frustrated with the pace (a little over halfway through) that I skimmed through the rest to find out what happened and never went back and really read it.

As for "books that have caught my attention recently..." I just finished Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, and also the fifth House of Night book (Hunted). Right now I'm reading The Forest of Hands and Teeth, which is quite interesting so far.

I completely agree with you, Sarah. I do not skim/skip. Like you, I feel it takes away from the experience that I'm meant to go through on this journey with the characters (the fear, uncertainty, excitement, mystery, etc.), as the author intended.

Of course, I pass no judgement on those of you that do skim/skip.

You can't help being impatient. ;-) Sorry! Just teasing! LOL
