977340 Oh well, guess I was the only one who enjoyed it. I read a couple of books a few years ago by him but didn't like them. But after reading this one, I decided to give his books another try. I ordered his Book of the New Sun books, which are supposed to be some of his best works.

1282841 Yes, well, upon reflection I think 6 stars was a little much. I was overly optimistic because this was our second read and I wanted to make myself like it. There were some interesting ideas, just didn't feel they were the author's original one's. Better luck next pick!

87427 I'm sorry to say I'm giving up on this book as well. I am a big fan of short stories - just not these stories. I've found them either too confusing and muddled or too simplistic. Better luck next time I guess.

1165752 I wasn't able to enjoy this book, I'm afraid. I stopped reading about halfway through, as I just wasn't enjoying the stories. In general, I found the POV characters unsympathetic, plus I often couldn't understand what had happened in the story, nor could I understand why. I couldn't force myself to go back and reread the stories, either, to see if there was something I'd missed.

I didn't mind "Under Hill," but it felt like something I might have read thirty years ago, a fairly traditional sff piece which might have provided thought the first time around, but which no longer has the originality to be anything but a set piece.

977340 I liked all of the stories, but these were my favorites...The Waif, The Legend of Xi Cygnus, The Wrapper, and Queen.

87427 I'm not terribly far in, but still pretty on the fence. The shark story was a bit traumatic and it has stuck with me some. The first one I've found really interesting though is the Monday Man story. Still going though.

1282841 Just finished. First impression: As a global view of the book, I liked the sequencing of the stories, especially the story he put at the end. Nice finish. He got a bit scary, had me checking the shadows at night but not enough to give me nightmares. I liked the myth mixture too, Rora. I think on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a 6. I'll post more when I have time.

977340 I started reading Innocents Aboard yesterday, and I'm about halfway through. So far I'm enjoying the stories. I like the blend of myth and the supernatural that he involves in his storylines.
