Lydia (lydiasbooks) | 46 comments I've confused myself. Think I'll just leave it for 2011, and maybe do a TBR challenge in 2013. I've only read 15 TBRs in 2012 :(

Cristen | 226 comments Done with Everest, whew! (See Post 90)
Now on to K2!

For those reading more than 155 books in a year, there are options. If you want to do a list of tbrs that you want to read this year, you can:

1)Post in the Choose your own adventure thread using 'TBR' as a genre. I post in this thread what I plan to read and edit it with (DONE) when I complete that book.

2)Use your personal log to keep track of everything you plan to read. I don't know if you have one already but people are using it to keep track of their challenges. If people want to also use it for a list of tbrs to be read this year, that is fine.

3)The Books read in 2012 thread is for all books read in a year. Some of us just add as we complete a book, others list everything they plan to read this year. Either works.

Those starting a tbr climb in 2012 are doing K2, not Everest. As I have already explained, only those who joined and posted their progress here in 2011 keep posting here. When our climbers reach the summit this thread will close.

Becky (ragamuffin_child) | 57 comments I'm not trying to get "credit" for the challenge, just keep track of any non-challenge books I've read off my TBR list. I didn't "finish" in 2011 because I thought it had no time limit, and I was going to just put books on it that weren't for any other challenge - I read 555 books and more than finished it in real life. Can I just use this to keep track of the TBRs I want to read?

Becky, the 2011 challenge is not open to members who were not there from the start of it. That is why there is a time limit on it.(Jan 2011-Dec 2011) You tried to join in Jan 2012, after the closing date of the challenge. Only a handful of members who took part all year and needed a little extra time to get to the summit are still able to post here. When they finish, it will be closing to posts. Please stick with the K2 climb only.

BJ Rose (BJRose) | 172 comments YAY!! Finished this on 1.17.12 (see post # 83). Now on to K2!!!

Oh, that's ok. I'm doing that too. I know it was for 2011 but I am still trying to read those books since they are some of my oldest TBRs. It's more for myself than anything...self-discipline not to just read all the new shiny books. :)

Becky, the Mount Everest challenge is the 2011 challenge climb and it is only for those who were doing the challenge all through 2011 and needed some extra time to finish in 2012. K2 is the 2012 challenge so that is the one you need to be joining.

Petra I have finished the 50 book Spring (Post 14).
I had a great time with this challenge. It made me look at my TBR list and rediscover a lot of great books.
It also made me realize that although I want to read many of the classics and have them on my real-life bookshelves, they aren't on my GR bookshelves. I need to go through my real books and put them on GR shelves.

Don't worry, the challenge will stay open until everyone has reached the summit. And you can use what you read for this challenge from January 1st to start your K2 climb as well if you want to. Keep climbing everyone! You're all doing great!

BJ Rose (BJRose) | 172 comments I'll also need January to finish - have over 20 books to finish the climb, and we'll be on vacation for much of the rest of December.

I hope you packed your thermals for K2 Chris!

Chris (ChrisMD) | 284 comments Oops! I didn't read the directions right. I thought for the "speedy" version you only needed to read 5 books for each camp. It finally dawned on me when I read the directions for NEXT year. So, I have redone my list. To make the speedy route a little more challenging for me, I decided I could only use books I physically owned, preferably for longer than three months. I've gone back and filled in some, but I'm still not going to make it to the top. But that's OK. With all the books I've bought in the past couple of months, I'll be ready for next year!

Once you reach the summit you are finished-you don't read your way back down unless you really want to. The 50 books mentioned in the summit paragraph are the final 50 books between camp 4 and the summit to take you to your 155 book target for the challenge.

I'm opting to stop at each camp for a good rest - I still do well on stairs, and hike really well as long as it's a gradual slope, but those steep climbs are well in my distant past, so I'll rest and then start over at each camp - if I don't make it all the way to the top, I won't repine - I am fond of breathing oxygen, after all!!
