Betty (nightreader) I just read and reviewed "Divine Intervention" by Cheryl Kaye Tardif (Canadian author); it's a techno-thriller, psi-fi, and I gave it 5 stars. It takes place in British Columbia.

ErinCBC (booksin140) | 244 comments CBC Books just launched an awesome new project: the Cross-Country Bookshelf. We asked literary types from each region to visit a local CBC show and choose the books they think best represent their region. We now want YOU to vote on their list, taking it from 10 to 5.

The BC list can be seen here.

What do you think? Do you agree with the panelists' choices? What books do you plan on voting for?

Margaret Here's another book set in BC

Raven

Shannon (sianin) | 81 comments Interesting list of books for BC. Some I have read and some I have not even heard of! Wouldn't know what to promote or vote on.

Here is another book that is at least partially set in Vancovuer: Three Views of Crystal Water

John | 59 comments One of my favorite B.C. books is Monkey Beach.

John | 59 comments I am starting an advance reader copy of Never Knowing. Her first book Still Missing was great and based here on Vancouver Island.

Alana (alana69) | 3 comments last year i read this book ( woo vancouver island) not sure into the genre but it was still a great read Before I Wake A Novel

Robin Spano (robinspano) | 8 comments One BC book I'm stoked to read is Everything Was Good-bye by Gurjinder Basran

Yes, I am looking forward to reading this one too as I have it on my TBR shelf

Robin Spano (robinspano) | 8 comments Also can't wait for The Canterbury Trail by Angie Abdou The cover is: The Canterbury Trail It's coming in the mail but stupid Canada Post is on strike.

I read about this book in BC BookWorld and it sounds really interesting. And I found out on the evening news that legisltation has passed. Postal strike is officially ending, but it'll take 3 or 4 days to probably get your mail.

Debra (DebraPurdyKong) | 46 comments The latest BC book I've read is Juvie: Inside Canada's Youth Jails by Gordon Cruse. It's a collection of memories about Gordon's 26 year long career, plus thoughts and letters from kids who've been in BC's detention centers, and some of the professionals who worked with them. It was interesting for me because I volunteered in a youth detention center a long time ago; it was disheartening to learn that incarceration hasn't changed much in 35 years. Anyway, I posted a review here on Goodreads a few days ago.

Robin Spano (robinspano) | 8 comments And...wow, can you tell I live in BC? I'm also stoked to read: The Opposite of Dark, Sitting Lady Sutra, Still Missing...all crime writers I know in real life and all books that are sitting waiting on my e-reader.

Lbaker | 10 comments I picked up a used mystery somewhere, was sitting in bed reading and nearly fell over when I realized it was set in my community.
L R Wright wrote a series with main character Karl Alberg set on the Sunshine Coast, BC.

Yes, and it was a really good series. Wright was starting to earn a lot of recognition in the States as well. She proved that BC writers don't have to set their books in the U.S. to attract American readers, unlike someone NY publishers and agents claim.

Gerry Burnie (squire_burnie) | 20 comments My forthcoming novel, "Coming of Age on the Trail," is set in British Columbia. It is a fictional recreation of Norman Lee's cattle drive from Hanceville to Dawson City, Yukon, in 1898. If you're interested the URL is: http://www.gerryburniebooks.net/index...).

Debra (DebraPurdyKong) | 46 comments I just finished a really enjoyable mystery called In the Shadow of Death by Gwendolyn Southin. What was especially intriguing was the 1959 setting in Vancouver and the Cariboo. References were made to Vancouver places I remember, but which no longer exist. I also reviewed the book.

John | 59 comments I just finished The Outlander and quite enjoyed it. It wasn't until part way through the book when they started talking about Sparwood and Frank that I realized it was set in B.C.. The famous Frank Slide is also brought into the book.
