This month I hope to read:
Breaking Dawn
Hot Six
Dune
Storm Front
Sense and Sensibility
The true and outstanding adventures of the hunt sisters
The Tailsman
I'm planning to read all the Pendragon books. I still have to get around to reading Breaking Dawn. I'm going to read the first book in the Hollow Kingdom series, and if I like it I'll read the other ones. I'm also working on reading The Once and Future King.
No One You Know by Michelle RichmondThe Luckiest Girl in the World
The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop
The President's Parasite by Jim Musgrave
Great American Artists for Kids by MaryAnn F. Kohl
and a bunch of little kids' books & others/alternates depending on how much time I have and what arrives at the library from my reserve list
I just finished "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Also for the past few weeks I have been reading "Jane Eyre" the e-book a little at a time since I can only read it when I have time to sit at the computer for a while. Now I need a new book, but I'm not sure what will be next.
Ashley-I loved "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Sociey" even so much that I think of it as one of my all time favorites. With all the reading I have done about Nazi Germany, and the War it was nice to have this as a picture of post war times and from the little talked about occupation of Guernsey.
I am reading The Grand Tour, a book using the "letter game" technique. The first one (Sorcery and Cecelia or the ...of the Mysterious Chocolate Pot) was enchanting. The premise behind this "game" is that one author writes another author a letter in which they give the setting and character names for author 1's character (in context, of course). Author 2 responds in kind addressing the things that author 1 mentioned and giving a context/setting/character for author 2. The characters continue to correspond creating a VERY entertaining story. The only rule is that the characters cannot actually meet in the story. There are three books in the series so far. I find them delightful.
I just finished the Sherman Alexie book that won the National Book Award: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Fantastic! This is one of the best YA books I've read recently. I also read Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely which was completely engrossing. I couldn't put either of them down -they kept calling to me.
C. Leigh, a few months ago Alexie's book was our book club pick. You will have to check out our discussions on it and add your own!
I'm *patiently* waiting for New Moon to come in at my library, Ashley...and in the meantime I've picked up Frank Beddor's "The Looking Glass Wars," which I've been anxious to read.
Right now I'm reading the novel Tomato Girl and I'm really enjoying it. It's an adult novel but could be read by ya; it's told first person by an eleven year old girl. It does have dark themes.
I am a bit late on this topic... but so far for September I have read...
Breaking Dawn (again)
The Goose Girl
The Five People You Meet In Heaven
The Candy Shop Wars
I plan to read...
Fablehaven
The B of M
I am also on a waiting list at the library for a few. So, if I get any of those ones, I will be reading those as well.
Right now I'm reading "The Book of Lost Things" by John Connolly, which I found in the adult section of the library, but which really reads as a YA novel. So far, so good. I suppose in a sense it is a combination thus far of "Coraline" (parental neglect, lonely child, using imagination as escape) and "Stardust" (squeezing through a secret entrance into a enchanted forest). Other books I've read as of late are:"Slam" by Nick Hornby (5 stars)
"The Color Purple" by Alice Walker (5 stars)
"Teacher Man" by Frank McCourt (5 stars)
"Gossamer" by Lois Lowry (1 lonely star)
Please read my reviews!!
Yes, I have read it twice and am reading it to my husband so I will have read it a third time when we are done.
Twilight is still my favorite from the series. I just love the character development that she uses. I know it is kind of ametur writing, there are ton of typos and other things that bother me, but I love the story and characters. They are my favorite books.
If you like Twilight, you have to see this author interview - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Vor5ccd...
I just finished The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.(Beware, there is quite a bit of violence in this futuristic, dystopian tale) It is my favorite read so far this year, I couldn't put it down. Also a quick but interesting read, Genesis Alpha by Rune Michaels.
Ok, I finished Fablehaven (and really liked it). Still working on the B of M. Now I am reading The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. If my library books are not in yet I will probably just finish out the Narnia series.
Background to Dangerby Eric AmblerA Room with a View and Howard's End by E.M. Forster
Strong Poison by Dorothy L. Sayers
and I just finished (for the second time)
J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! So good!:D
I just finished:
The Moonstone (very long but amazing characterization!)
Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians Very wacky but also surprisingly philosophical.
Rereading HP:7
Currently reading:
Strong Poison
The Swan Maiden
The Lightning Thief
