Noelle (Bellie) | 3 comments A few years ago in school I read a book about a Jewish Polish girl who was deported to Siberia because her family were capitalists. She had a fun-loving grandmother, a strict mother, and a father who spoiled her, I think. There was a character called Vanya the Bum, something about yellow curtains, and she cut her hair at one point. I remember really loving it; but I can't remember who wrote it or what is was called! Please help!

Wendy | 51 comments Is it The Endless Steppe by Esther Hautzig? I haven't read it in ages and don't really remember many details, but the general idea definitely fits.

Holly | 60 comments My guess too! I wrote a book report on it in 8th grade. The only part I remember is the overcrowded conditions were horrendous.
