Amy | 1899 comments Okay everyone! Here's the challenge........

CHALLENGE 8: RULES AND SCORING
Read over everything carefully!

APRIL TO JUNE CHALLENGE

1. The challenge will begin on April 1 at 12:00am local time and will end on June 30 at 11:59pm.
2. All books must be YA or Juvenile Fiction.
3. All books must be at least 100 pages or more in length.
4. Re-reads count.
5. Audio books and electronic books, such as Kindle count but page counts will be according to what Goodreads has on their site.
6. For the letter A, you may use A/An ONE time. After you have used it, please omit it from the rest of the titles. The does not count in the title, so omit those. For example, The Julian Game would just count as "Julian Game."
7. For letter Y, it would be preferable to read a book STARTING with Y, but if you can't find one, a Y anywhere in the title is acceptable.
8. Spell out each letter of the month (ex. A-P-R-I-L; book titles must begin with each letter of the month; ex. A-Amazing Grace, P-Pirates,etc).
9. Point Values are listed next to each task. There are opportunities for additional points so please read carefully!
10. Questions, concerns, comments? Let us know. We can problem solve together!

POINT VALUES

Values are listed next to each task.
50 point bonus for finishing the entire challenge

Kristen | 1021 comments Were you waiting for midnight to strike Kellee? Lol. :)

Kellee (KelleeMoye) | 2042 comments During Spring Break, late night has been my time to read and I didn't start this one until after midnight so... :-P

Amy | 1899 comments Oh, I forgot to ask........do we want to keep a count of how many pages we are reading?

Kellee (KelleeMoye) | 2042 comments Amy wrote: "Oh, I forgot to ask........do we want to keep a count of how many pages we are reading?"

I always do :) ... Up to you though :)

Amy | 1899 comments That's fine if we do. Didn't think about it before.

Heather Ohana (blackdotbug) It is usually used as a tie-breaker if needed. If the top people have the same number of points (particularly in the challenges that have a set number of possible points) the person with the most pages gets the win.

Kellee (KelleeMoye) | 2042 comments Kristen wrote: "Did anyone create a spreadsheet for this one? Just curious..."

I did. Excel with 7 columns: Worth, Challenge, Book & author, Genre, Date completed, Points earned and page number.

Then I auto summed the points earned and page columns.

message 15: by Amy (last edited Apr 03, 2011 06:09am) (new)

Amy | 1899 comments I didn't do a spreadsheet I just make a list and write all my info under the book. Probably not the best way but I hate spreadsheets. LOL. I can email you my list if you're interested.

Wow Kellee, you must be very good with numbers. I can never figure out how to auto anything on a spreadsheet. :-)

Sheri (SheriBo) | 55 comments Being kind of new, I'm not totally clear on how the challenges work. Can you clarify a bit for me?
Do you have to present a listof what you plan to read first?
How to the extra points for genere work?
Can you read the books in any order throughout the challenge?
Can one book earn points for more than one thing? Like for The letter M and for Flower and genere?
Sorry for all the questions!

Amy | 1899 comments Nope do not need to present a list but a lot of people like to have a plan and find books that fit the challenge. I do a little of both. I make a list but as I read books I like, I try and see if they can fit the challenge. I usually move away from my list because I read what I find interesting at the time I'm choosing a new book.

The genre points are added to whatever book you read, but can only be used one time. For example, if you read Generation Dead, you would get five points for a horror genre. Once that genre is used, you can't use it again for a different book.

You can read the books in any order you like. I started with April and I think Kristen started with a May book. Totally up to you.

Each book can only be used once, so if you use it for M in May, it can't be used in any other part of the challenge.

Welcome Sheri!
