Al Capone Does my Shirts by Gennifer CholdenkoBat 6 by Virginia Euwer Wolff (maybe a little "young")
Billie Standish was Here by Nancy Crocker
Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson
Nothing but the Truth by Avi (don't know if this one fits!)
Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli
My Mother the Cheerleader by Robert Sharenow
ooooh, I LOVE Homer's Odyssey! I studied Ancient History at OSU, must have read that 3 or 4 times in depth. I'd read it again.
I suggest Copper Sun. It's a recent award winner and it has so much to discuss. btw, Boy in Striped Pajamas is interesting but most agree after reading it that, that it's better suited to a younger age. It'a more a fable than historic fiction.
Midwife's Apprentice and Catherine Called Birdie are both awesome. (middle ages)
Mr. Tucket (cowboy times)
Witch of Blackbird Pond (puritan times)
Slave Dancer (slavery)
I secondThe Midwife's Apprentice (which I've wanted to see ever since it was first published)
and
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
and
Emily of the New Moon
Lots of good books suggested in all 3 threads!
