Graham Masterson's books are fun and wild reading. House of Leaves presented some genuinely scary moments but I get creeped out by the unusual rather than the extreme. I love David Searcy! Tom Piccirilli writes neat books. Lautreamont's work also has some creepy moments that are mirrored in a lot of modern horror novels.
I remember Mystery Walk by Robert McCammon scared me. It's one of the creepiest novels I think I've ever read.
Hello, I am a new member too. I am a big fan of Stephen King but I want to try different writers. I have also read for Dean Koontz, Graham Masterton and Clive Barker. Can you guys recommend your favorite book of the writers you have mentioned above?? I don't want my first book of a certain writer be his worst.
I really don't think Thomas Ligotti gets nearly enough recognition. He is one of he few modern authors to have scared me out of some sleep.

I really enjoyed Craig Phoenix Soulshadow and his follow up Ushered, they are good stories with some good twists, they are not horror as such more along the lines of what stephen king tends to write now supernatural spookies. Check out his website craigphoenix.co.uk I met him at a local event and manage dto get signed copies.

New member here as well, try Craig Phoenix Soulshadow or Ushered very good reads if you can by pass the grammatical errors, he is new authour, good stories and twists though, can read first three chapters on his website
I recommend Gary A Braunbeck, Conrad Williams, Brian Knight, Clive Barker, Michael Marshall Smith, and China Mieville to name a few off the top of my head.
Bentley Little is fun to read. He takes everyday situations, say, a store opening in a town, and turns it into a horrorfest. Fun reads.
I also like Jack Ketchum, but he's a little gruesome for me. I have to steel myself before opening his books. Off Season was all out gore, but The Girl Next Door upset me so much I couldn't even finish it. Maybe because it's based on a true story.
Bentley Little and Richard laymenr are very interesting writers. I enjoy their books when I am looking for something edgy to read.
Hi, new member here. My fave horror writers are Brian Keene, Bentley Little, Peter Straub and the live Richard Laymon.
I love English horror. It's more psychological. Recently finished Naomi's Room. Anyone familiar with that one?
Charlee Jacob is one. In her short story collect, Geek Poems, the title story gives some creepy moments that I haven't felt in a while.
