934927 Okay I am a nut and read too many books at once. Almost done with I Robot and The Book of Lost Things.

What else has everyone finished?

message 2: by Emilee, Smurfy! (new)

934927 Finished I Robot. Didn't really like it much!

message 3: by Beth (new)

612636 Just finished Austenland by Shannon Hale -- a fun, quick read! I really liked it.

message 4: by Emilee, Smurfy! (new)

934927 I saw your review Beth. I think I might have to read that one too.

message 5: by Beth (new)

612636 Peace Like a River by Leif Enger -- it's fantastic. Lovers of language will love it; the writing is both lyrical and readable.

message 6: by Emilee, Smurfy! (new)

934927 Beth: you are cruising through books! I wish I could i just can't find enough time.

message 7: by Silver (new)

1430273 The most recent books I have finnished are The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, Catch-22 by Joesph Hellar, and Dr. Jykell and Mr. Hyde by Rober Louis Stevenson.

message 8: by Kasi (new)

1070966 The last books I finished were Harvesting the Heart by Jodi Picoult and Sisters by Danielle Steel. I'm hoping to finish Eclipse tonight.

message 9: by Kasi (new)

1070966 And I finished it :) hehe

message 10: by Prettymisslara (new)

983498 Kasi, how did you like Eclipse?

I just finished Angry Housewives Eating Bon-Bons by Lorna Landvik. It was the book that my local book club read this month. Very entertaining! The power of friendship shines through. Makes me wish I had long lasting friendships like these women.

message 11: by Kasi (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:16AM) (new)

1070966 I liked Eclispe much better then Twilight. Eclispe left me hanging and I can't wait to read Breaking Dawn to find out what happens next.

message 12: by Silver (new)

1430273 I just finnised The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, really interesting and thought provoking book

message 13: by Prettymisslara (new)

983498 Just finished 100 years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. It started out really interesting but the last 100 pages were difficult to get through. I had lost interest in the characters by then since it seemed that they just started to repeat their ancestors mistakes.

message 14: by Prettymisslara (new)

983498 I finished My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult today. It was a good book. I was intrigued by the thought of a "designer baby"; I guess I lead a pretty sheltered life. Not only did I not know that this was possible I never would have thought of the idea to have a child for the purpose of "spare parts". However I will state that was not what the parents had intended. It definately gave me food for thought though. How would I react if one of my children were diagnosed with a critical illness. Would I too become so involved in the care of the ill one that the others felt invisible. I also wondered about the strength of my marriage, would it be able to cope with such a hardship.

I am so very thankful for my healthy children.

message 15: by Jenn (new)

1414347 I just finished The Gypsy Morph by Terry Brooks. If you are a fan of his, you'll love it!

Heading on to First Among Sequels (Thursday Next) by Jasper Fforde. It's got my attention quicker than I thought.. if only there were more hours in the day.. sigh

message 16: by Silver (new)

1430273 I have recently finnished The Ambassadors by Henry James. He is a difficult writer to grasp, and there are parts of the book I do not completely understand, but I think he is still a compelling writer with a lot of depth, and I enjoyed his works. It is a good story and I have glimpses of understanding.

message 17: by Emilee, Smurfy! (new)

934927 Silver is it a book you really need time to concentrate on? I have so many of those on my TBR list. But all books should be read! ha ha.

message 18: by Silver (new)

1430273 Yes, it is a book that takes concentration, or a lot could be missed. It is not the kind of book you want to read during commerical breaks while watching TV

message 19: by Beth A. (new)

889182 I finished Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. It was really good, I loved it.

I also just read Children of the Mind by Orson Scott Card. It was a bit disappointing, usually he's pretty good.

message 20: by KrIsTiE fAyE (new)

707820 Just finished JANE EYRE....I highly recommend it. Very easy to read classic!

message 21: by Emilee, Smurfy! (new)

934927 So far I really like Jane Eyre! I can't wait to discuss it with you!

message 22: by Beth A. (new)

Hi Beth, I'm interested as to what you were disappointed with in this. Have you read the preceding books in the series?

1272254 Hello, Just finished NEW MOON, and THE STUPIDIST ANGEL. Now I am into THE STAND and THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET.
I am old on GRs but new to this group:)

message 26: by Emilee, Smurfy! (new)

934927 I've always wanted to read House on Mango Street.

message 27: by Ann from S.C. (new)

1272254 It is a short and quick read. And pretty good too.

message 28: by Beth A. (new)

889182 Logan,

I have read the Ender Series but not the Shadow Series. I loved Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, and Xenocide, but I lost interest with Children of the Mind. It was really slow, especially the first half.

But Orson Scott Card is still one of my favorite authors. Most of his books are really good.

message 29: by Emilee, Smurfy! (new)

934927 That's good to know Sue.

Ender's Game is on my list TBR but it'll have to wait until 2010 unless I get my 2009 list read. before 12/31/09!

message 30: by Stef (new)

1479469 Yesterday I finally finished DREAMLAND by Kevin Baker. Liked the book although it wasn't as good as the first part of the triology, PARADISE ALLEY

message 31: by Fiona (new)

1356469 Last night, at about 3am I finished A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Not my favourite out of the 3 including this one I've read, perhaps because it's just too famous.

message 32: by Julia (new)

1676804 Hello, new to the group. I have just finished David McCullough's Truman, all 992 pages! It really was an interesting read and great to understand about someone I had not been that curious.

668363 I just read Brother Odd and did not like it as much as the other two.The story was just weird in that one.

message 44: by Beth (new)

688928 I just finished Stuff White People Like. It was ok. Some parts were funnier than others.

message 45: by Kathy (new)

971945 While waiting for my electricity to come back on last week (6 days), one of the books I read by flashlight was The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop by Lewis Buzbee, a nonfiction title that was a fascinating memoir of Buzbee's years of working in the bookselling business, along with all sorts of interesting information and tidbits on books, printing, and all things books.

message 46: by sweet pea (new)

1025243 Just finished A Three Dog Life, a Memoir. It was a quick read, sweet, and a little sad, but very honest. I would def. recommend it!

message 47: by Petra X (new)
