I remembered reading twilight way before the movie was out. It kinda surprised me that it's gained this much popularity. I thought the conclusion on Breaking Dawn was just the author's childish notions: Bella ended up sacrificing nothing, and conveniently gets everything.
The series started alright, and plunged into the realm of bad literature.
I think the whole twilight series is giving teenage girls a very false idea about how their love life should be, its just too unrealistic if u ask me. i would give it a 3 out of 5.
While I am totally addicted to Twilight I have to agree with you that there is no way that emailing the publisher will do anything even if the book was horrible. The craze that has come out of the entire series as a whole will do nothing with an email. I dont know why she hated the book so bad but I enjoyed it.

Don't waste your time. I read half of it and had to put it away...permanently. I was extremely disappointed because I LOVE the other three novels. It's so stupid and contrived that I wanted to return it and get my money back. This is the only novel that I could not *make* myself finish. It ruined the series for me.
This series is soooo overated!!!It's not that good.
People are too obsessed with it to care about good writing
I, personaly, found it to be the worst book in the seris. I guess I wasn't into the whole Bella-gets-pregnet-jake-imprints thing.
Also, I was kinda hoping for a fight at the end.
I agree that the series seemed to deteriorate with each sequel. SM lost focus on the what the first book brought to live, the love of a vampire for a mortal and how they stayed together despite the fact that he wanted her blood. I think BD tried to bring too many other things into the story and that the last two books should have been edited, combined and been the last of the series.
And on a side note, Midnight Sun is better than any of the others.

Thanks for the warning, Marge. Your suffering hasn't been in vain. I've bought the first one, which I will dutifully read, and then jump ship.
I loved the first novel, Twilight, but I suffered through the sequels; they were perfect examples of how not to write. I had already purchased them, so I felt obligated to read them, hoping they would improve, but they didn't!
Agreed, OP. It was horrid, but then again, so were the rest of the books in the series. I would have been really upset if I had actually paid for it.

I tend to agree with you! That last book was very hard to read due to too much endless suffering. However, we did read all 4 of them didn't we? So they certainly held our attention and weren't boring!

I loved the 1st and 3rd book... and was somewhat stunned when I read the last one. For a few days I really couldn't decide whether I loved it or hated it. I think this was because as some of you have already said, it was just so completely different from the preceding books.
I thought for the the first time, Edward and Bella's relationship took a backseat to other matters. The beginning of the book was beautiful and I absolutely adored the wedding scene, but after she saw the baby moving inside her stomach (after being with Edward the night before) I was weirded out.
From that point onwards Bella became a different character- she was not what Stephenie Meyer portrayed her to be in the first 3 books. I felt quite sickened reading about her lying on the lounge in the Cullens' house swollen, green and dying while she kept saying how much she loved the supposed alien growing inside of her. It. was. just. weird.
Once the baby was born the story started getting back on track, but then SM decided to portray a 1/4 of the book from Jacob's perspective. Don't get me wrong, it was refreshing to view the story from another character's perspective, but the way she did it with Jacob was simply not engaging.
Anyway, by the end of the book it all came good and I ended up liking it... alot. Weird huh? I don't think I have ever read a book that I both loved and hated so much at the same time.
I was glad to see the destruction of all the good messages. The other books sometimes felt like moral judgements and this one didn't. I loved them all, though.
My reasons for hating Breaking Dawn are, the destruction of all the good messages that the three previous books were sending out, and also the deterioration of characterisation.
With the prequels I could overlook some character flaws and cringe-worthy language, but when there's nothing positive by which to ignore the negatives then it all just turns to crap.
I hated them in this order:Breaking Dawn
Eclipse
New Moon
Twilight.
So i pretty much think it got worse with the sequel's
I thought it was okay, this is the order i liked them in, Eclipse, Twilight, Breaking Dawn, New Moon.
I guess. I did like one part, it was right after she had become a vampire and everything was happy, but after that...i dunno.
well i see how breaking dawn was REALLY different from the other ones, and that threw a lot of ppl off. but that doesn't mean that it was BAD.
I know i know, i didnt say that nobody else CAN. i was just saying how i cant imagine that they WOULD.:P
I was obsessed w/ Twilight 4 like 3 months, and then i started reading ACTUAL books, and i realized how completely crappy the whole thing is. Bella is an annoying, melodramatic whiny little ****.Edward is an overprotective homicidal statue/stalker. My 8 year old sister could have come up with a better plot fro Breaking Dawn. Just thinking about it gives me a headache!!
ugh i cant understand how someone would lake it in the least.
****SPOILER****
Tanya, I agree with you on this post. I LOVED the first 3 books, fell in love with Jacob, and flew through them all. I'd say about the last 1/4 of Breaking Dawn could have been left out & it still would have been an EXCELLENT series. I am still trudging through it and I will complete it, it's just taking me a LONG time. I knew Jacob was going to imprint on Renesmee!!! As soon as he came down those stairs I started thinking...he's going to imprint, he's going to imprint & then, he does! I was like I KNEW IT!!! LOL...
I absolutely agree with the idea that it felt more like fanfic. It felt like a strange departure and it took the characters in places that I just don't feel like we needed to see. And it lost some of the original charm.
I personally didn't like breaking dawn that much but i also prefer action to romance and a majority of breaking dawn is romance. I mean, it's not a BAD book necessarily, it just didn't strike my interest as the other books did. But I guess it's good enough that I'll keep it, although it may simply be out of the fact that I'd be irritated if I didn't have the last book . . . whatever. :)
THANK you. everyone's entitled to their own opinion, for crying out loud! i would like to be able to say I like Breaking Dawn without everyone yelling at me. jeeeez
Yes Lye, there are people defending Breaking Dawn, because not everybody thought it sucked. Personally I loved it. It's not great literature, but it's good fun :)
Oh come on! Breaking Dawn sucked and there are people defending it? If you haven't read it; don't. I mean it logiclaly doesn't make sense.
I would give Twilight a try, but it seems to simple of a book for me, like something an anime obsessed middle school girl would read.
Youall need to give Robinson Crusoe or Treasure Island, or Boreal Moon a try, now thats REAL writing.
I loved Twilight and New Moon but Eclipse and Breaking Dawn really did suck pretty bad. In Eclipse, the characters were shallow and in Breaking Dawn, it was just a big mess everywhere!! I'm not writing this to be mean, I know how many people love this series but this is my personal opinion on this book and well, I hated it for the most part.
i am not joining this group to join the loathing of the book...its more that i want to loath you....what is so wrong with this book. give me solid answers not that it sucks and thats it. if you cant then you have no reason saying its awful... if you have pissy reason than you suck at life.
I won't agree. I will not believe it. I am just begining Eclipse, and I will most certainly not believe it!
I thought about reading them to see what the hype was about, but then I had the plot explained to me and I am no longer curious. There are much better vampire books out there. I'll stick with those, thanks.
Someone leaked an unfinished copy of Midnight Sun, and now Stephanie is not writing it anymore. She has a statement on her website telling about it. You should check it out.
Tanya, I totally agree about Twilight being an "incomprehensible, impossible, and utterly irresistible addiction." When I think objectively about all 4 books, there was an almost total lack of plot, suspense, and action; and the writing's not all that great; and yet I could NOT put them down and neglected my husband and children for 5 days while I read them all. And then I heard about the 12 leaked chapters of Midnight Sun (Twilight from Edward's POV) and I stared at my computer screen for almost 5 straight hours til I had finsihed that too. And I'm jonesing for more...
