Jonathan Lopez | 4728 comments Since today would be his 172nd birthday, I'll mention the French painter Paul Cézanne (1839-1906). (You may have noticed the Google logo tribute to him on their home page today.) He is probably most famous for his still life paintings, especially the ones with apples, but he was also an accomplished painter of landscape and did some very interesting figure paintings as well. He was modestly well known among other artists during his lifetime (and contributed paintings to one of the later Impressionist exhibitions) but only became truly famous after death.

Assuming it's Townshend, John Kinder Labatt is the founder of Canada's Labatt's brewery and Ray Harryhausen is the trailblazer of stop-motion animation, best seen in films like "Jason and the Argonauts."
