Kristin, contrary to what the rest of my friends think, I did not love this book. Here is my spoiler free review:

I don't know, guys. This series isn't really doing it for me. I liked it, but something leaves me unsettled. It could be that my brain doesn't complete grasp the rules of the world or maybe I have something against Angels. I thought the writing was good and Becca Fitzpatrick strikes me as a fantastic person so I WANT to love this book as much as some of my friends did. Alas, I did not.

The more I think about it, I really do think it is my inability to understand the different levels of Angels that held me back from falling in love with this series. There is a scene towards the end of the book that explains various characters and their relationships with other characters (hey, give a girl a break. I'm trying to keep this spoiler free!) and I just couldn't follow the line. So there you have it. I didn't love this book because of my own ineptness. LOL!

If you do not enjoy cliffhanger endings, skip this book. I almost threw the CD case across my car. (To be clear, I listened to this book on audio and was driving.) If I were invested in the characters of this story I would be sitting on pins and needles waiting for book 3.

So, with all this being said I would still recommend Hush, Hush and Crescendo to people who love paranormal YA and can pay good attention. I think that was my downfall. I will be reading book 3 to see the conclusion of the story.

Kim I read Hush, Hush, but I could not really get into it. I don't think I connected with the characters at all.

Marie Ivarsson (MarieIvarsson) | 30 comments Jennifer and Kim,
I agree with you. I read Hush, Hush last year after a friend practically forced everyone around her to read it. lol Well, not really, but she loves it so much (and Crescendo), that we all read it to share it with her. However, I'm pretty sure that none of us that read it really liked the book.

I'll probably read Crescendo, since I read Hush, Hush, but, like you, I don't really care what happens to the characters at this point. I was annoyed with most of them, and I really didn't like Patch, which kind of makes the tension between him and Nora dead in the water.

The things we find out about Patch didn't make me love him for being the charming bad boy, it made me dislike him.

Nikki | 84 comments I didn't LOVE either Hush, Hush or Crescendo but I did like Crescendo better than Hush, Hush. And I will read the next one because I have to know how it ends now!

Kristin | 134 comments Thanks for the review. I like Hush, Hush enough to want to read Crescendo, but it's not one of my all-time faves. :) In the angel category I liked Kate Lauren's Fallen and Lament much better. Have you guys read those?

Kristen, I have read Fallen but not Torment. I really liked the first 2/3 of Fallen and then something went bad and I really disliked the last part. Did you think Torment was better than Fallen?

Melissa (Rosmelie) | 28 comments I think the thing with Crescendo is that it leaves off to the point where you really don't know what's going to happen for the final installment. That's why I can't wait until Becca Fitzpatrick has the last one out! It's the same thing with the Fallen series. You get so much packed into the first book, the second book kind of leaves you hanging, and then you wonder what you aren't seeing that will probably end up covered in the third. I personally love the books, but I've always been a fantasy type reader...plus being Wiccan for 7 years has lead me to understand more when it comes to books like these.

Kristin | 134 comments Jennifer, hmmm- I didn't feel that way about Fallen. I liked it & Torment very much, esp how Torment ends. I would say it's probably worth finishing. What exactly bothered you about it?

Kristin, That's one of the most frustrating parts for me. I don't know why these books turn me off! As I said in my review, I really think that it is my lack of understanding all the angel "rules" and associations. One of my favorite authors (JR Ward) has an angel series and it's taking me forever to read the latest book in that series, too. I must have something against angels. It's so weird!

Kristin | 134 comments I totally understand that. It's important to be able to really "get" the whole world and what's going on in it. I have a problem with that too sometimes, and I remember feeling that way somewhat towards the end of Fallen. She is secretive about a few things on how the world works in both books, but it's intentional, like she has some big reveal that will explain it all in book #3. I just read through that part and it made enough sense. I really like her writing style and the characters.

I'm in the middle of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series right now and I love it!!! She does a great job of explaining her world and what's going on. Have you read these books yet? City of Bones is the first one.

Jennifer Strand (jenniferstrand) | 155 comments Mod
I LOVE the Mortal Instruments! Can't wait to hear what you have to say as you progress in the books. Clockwork Angel (the first book in her Infernal Devices series) is next on my TBR pile. I adore Cassandra Clare.

Kristin | 134 comments Yes, I love her writing style! I was worried about reading the series because I thought it would be hard to understand with all the otherworldly stuff, but I've been pleasantly surprised. :) I have the last one, plus Clockwork Angel on my NOOK, just waiting for me to find time... if only the kids could drive themselves to karate and birthday parties today! ;) Let me know when you read Clockwork!

Nanci | 89 comments Cassandra Clare is a new favorite author of mine. I have read the Mortal Instruments twice (actually listened to them the second time- the reader of the first one is bad but the reader for the others is pretty good) I am eagerly awaiting the next book in both that series and the Infernal Devices series. Have you read the Melissa Marr series Wicked Lovely? It encompasses the modern day world of Faery. For me it is pretty dark but strangely compelling. What are your thoughts on it?

Nanci, I haven't read the Wicked Lovely series. I did buy the first book last fall but it hasn't made it to the top of my TBR pile. I've heard good things about them from other people, too. I'm sure it will make it on my list of reads in 2011. Have you read the entire series?

Nanci | 89 comments I have read all but the newest in the series which will not be released till February. The second book, Ink Exchange was a little more difficult for me to read, it was the darkest and had several things I thought were pretty objectionable for a young adult book. Each of the books has some objectionable elements but Ink Exchange sort of crosses several lines for me. The fourth book Radiant Shadows was not as strong as the first three but I need to see how she ends it. I am pretty sure I will not recommend the series for my 13 yr old daughter and I won't let her read them at all until she is an adult. That said, I like the story and I like the characters and I care about what happens to them. As I said before, it is a strangely compelling read.
