Enjoy -- Olive Kitteridge is easily the best book I've read this year.

I loved Olive Kitteridge A Novel in Stories, too! Have not yet read other books by that same author though.
I am reading Club Dead. I'm hoping to pick up a few "deeper" books in the next month or so, but I'm enjoying cranking through books at the moment.

Shannon- How are you liking it? I have heard mixed messages about it..."
Well, I didn't finish Lullabies for Little Criminals and was glad for a reason to put it down. It didn't capture me as I had hoped. Having said that, I think that if I had stuck with it and read to the end I may have really liked it. (Everyone in my in-person book club that finished it seemed to really like it).
For me, I got it with a only a few days before our book club met and just didn't have the time. I got half way through and apparently it starts picking up about the time that I stopped.
Some things I really liked about the book and some things I didn't. And they are related. I liked her metaphors but didn't like that each time she used one she used two or three in a row to describe the thing, feeling, whatever. I didn't like that the author kept telling us that "it was just really sad". Some in the club felt that it added legitimacy to the voice of the 12 year old (or 14 year old remembering). I had thought the narrator was much older than that. If the narrator really is that young then some of the metaphors didn't work for me as they were too sophisticated for someone that young (I apologize I do not have the book in front of me so cannot provide examples).
I liked the transitory nature of the characters as I felt that was "real". It is a sad book and I am told that the ending is quite good. I had to return the book to the library and will probably not return to it. Having said that, I do not think it was a waste of my time and I would have read it if I wasn't on such a time limit. The others in my club (who I respect their opinions) all would give it 4 stars.
Oops, I should have put the above in the what I have finished stream.

Fallen Angel by andrew Taylor. It's the omnibus of his Roth trilogy. I thought the TV adaptation was pretty good so I have high hopes. It's over 900 pages long but I think it's the sort of book that pulls you in.
Arun wrote: "On to the final part of the Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud."I loved that Jonathan Stroud trilogy, everything in it was grey, not the writing or the story, grey in a good way not black and white :)
Shannon wrote: "Shelley wrote: "Shannon wrote: "I am reading Lullabies for Little Criminals A Novel for my in person book club."
Shannon- Thank you for your summary of the novel... I still am interested in it but i think it's one of those books that will have to "wait till there is nothing else". Hope you enjoy your next read a little more!

True..almost every character had grey shades, unlike most of the other fantasy tales the characters had human traits...
I read a mystery book called The Gaudi Key A Novel by Esteban Martín & Andreu Carranza I realy like it. I read the hebrew translation. I also listen in my ipod while following the text Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Finished up on Hummingbirds: A Novel and gave it 3/5 stars. Now I am reading Uglies and so far I am flying thru it. It is a good read thus far!
Just finished Uglies gave it 4/5 stars
Now I am reading my First Reads win Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer
Also picked up The Dead Travel Fast Stalking Vampires from Nosferatu to Count Chocula -- that it was time to read this, with how many vampire books I've been reading lately.
Finished up on Eating Animals and now I am reading my last First Reads win : Courage of Fear by Barbara Boyer
Going to start The Handmaid's Tale tomorrow. Still reading Dracula as it is on Daily Lit so I don't get far every day. Hope to be done it early this week!

I'm going to read this after I've finished my current book. Have you seen the film?
I am read "Woman in White" I'm really liking it. I can almost hear the organ going dun dun dun, after every book reveal.
Started Pretty in Plaid A Life, a Witch, and a Wardrobe, or, the Wonder Years Before the Condescending, Egomanical, Self-Centered Smart-Ass Phase last night. I'm only about 10 or so pages in and I'm already laughing.
I'm reading The Pale Blue Eye A Novel by Louis Bayard. As often happens, I had this one on my shelf for awhile, bought the novel he wrote after this, The Black Tower, read and enjoyed it, and then picked up the one I'd had the longest to read. Both are excellent historical fiction/mysteries.
