1151322 Ok Dylan why do vampires have to sleep in coffins. In the early days most poeple could not afford coffins and were simply buried in a winding sheet in a hole in the ground. This is from the Phantom World by Augustine Calmet circa 1750 is a book concerning vampires and witchcraft and their relation to God and relgeon. The last part of this book is stright up a about vampires. The first part is about magic, daemons, Angels, and such other stuff and how it relates to God.

1340499 That sounds really cool. :D

message 116: by deleted member (new)

o wow, mines about a vampire serial killer in 1800's london!

message 115: by Dylan (new)

1340499 Yeah, mine have a pretty unique background on how the vampires came to be, and I kinda explained a few things. Like why vampires have to sleep in coffins, how they got their supernatural powers, and a few other things I forgot. ^_^

message 114: by deleted member (new)

well, id really like to stick w/ most of the facts, i mean, i really want to keep my vampires, well 'vampireish'... the main one is already slitting throats, and THEN drinking blood...

message 113: by Cary (new)

1151322 You either do research or make up your own vampire mythos like the one in Twilight. You can see how far that flew. Like a rock! LOL.

message 112: by Dylan (new)

1340499 Yeah, I'm writing one as well. I guess I need to do more research. ^_^

message 111: by deleted member (new)

kool... i just hope my mom wont look at me funny if i check it out from the library like she did when i checked out dracula... LOL
this might sound wierd, but thanks for the info, im trying to write a vamp story right now, but at the moment, im looking for like 'facts' i guess you could say, more than writting...

1151322 Carmilla is dark believe me. It is never reavealed how Carmilla became a vampire. She only says "It was because of a cruel love." So I would suppose some male vampire killed her and turned her. Carmilla is dark in a real classy kind of way. Salems Lot is not bad. But it's more gross than dark. The vamps become vamps to easy. They get bit once and they are a vamp. Hell the whole world would be overun with vamps if it was that easy. In Dracula it requires blood exchange. Dracula drinks from his victims and they in turn drink of his blood. So every one Dracula bites does not go runing off turned into a vamp, LOL. Certain ghostly laws apply in Gothic folk lore to create a vamp. You have to commit a sin deemed excommuntication by the Catholic Church or be turned by another vamp. Since accepting life eteranl is an excommuntiction. There you have it. Dracula raised himself from the dead. For doing which God turned Dracula into a vampire. Only God can grant everylasting life. If you read The Phantom World written in 1850 by Antoine Calmet. It has parts of the first book ever written on Romainian vampires called The Magia Posthuma, written 1700. It elaborates upon this point. Only God may grant everlasting life. Jesus raised Lazurus through the power of God. No one but God can grant everlasting life. To try to do so with the aid of the devil or black magic. Will cause God in heavin to lay his vengance down, and turn you Vampire.

ok...

message 108: by Dylan (new)

1340499 Yeah, me too. I suggest Salem's Lot by Stephen King if you haven't read it already. That's my favorite vampire book.

message 107: by deleted member (new)

i need too read carmilla after im through with dracula... i just like the darker kinds of stories in general...

message 106: by Cary (new)

1151322 Cool because the Twilight people have there own group if you look at the different sections in Vampire Lovers. None of them here. There are a lot of books I hate as much as Twilight. All the teenage vampire in highschool books suck so bad. Anne Rice is only barely tolerable. Old school gothic short stories rule, Dracula, Carmilla, Sookie Stackhouse, and You Suck by Michael Moore. Those are the vamp books I like.

message 105: by deleted member (new)

no offense to all the twiluvers here, but i personally think twilight is a big peice of crap

message 104: by Cary (new)

1151322 My intent was not to piss anybody off. But the topic is Twilight and I had to say someting honest. I enjoyed the book. But like I said it needed allot edited out to shorten it so it would keep your interest.

message 103: by Gustie (new)

934839 olala cary..
u'll be hate by all the fans of twilight.
they said that books are great!
but, it just the opinion btw

message 102: by Cary (new)

1151322 Twilight simply is not all that. It is one of those wierd books were the moivie is better than the book. Jenefer should have stopped with one book. But she wrote more books to make money. The first book is way to long, blah, blah. Yup Twilight was sad. I had such high expectations. I guess because it made the New York best seller list. Then I read it and realized it needed an editor to edit out all the pages of boring crap. Twilight shold be about 1/3 the length it is and no sequals should have been written.

message 101: by Cary (last edited Feb 22, 2009 11:04AM) (new)

1151322 The first book would have been OK if it had been shortened by about half. It was way to long with pages filled up concerning Bellas thoughts about her beautiful Edward. It could have been a good book if it was faster paced and less mushy. With the first and second book of the series condensed into one shorter book. I read it but I am not crazy about it like I am Carmilla, or Dracula. I am reading my first series book. All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris author of HBOs TrueBloods and it looks pretty good.

Twilight is one of my favorite vampire series too. I luv it! It was never tiring to me. The stories were so addictive. =)~

Hey I couldn't agree more. I don't mind a bit of romance with my vampires but when it drowns out the action and, well general vampire mystique it get tiring. I found Twilight watered down the vampires too much. It wasn't horrid but it wasn't all that.

message 98: by Dylan (new)

1340499 I saw the movie and think it's better than the book. I can't wait for New Moon! :D

message 97: by deleted member (new)

i love twight its one (one) og tha best books i have read gigglez

message 96: by Dylan (new)

1340499 Yeah, I agree, I loved the book! And don't think the movie will do justice. I think Stephenie Meyer is an amazing author! :D

message 95: by Zazzy (new)

893806 anyway, i luuuv the twilight series and i know the movie is gonna suck, but i am still willing to go see it.
i read the first book in under tow hours it was sooo inthralling.

message 94: by Zazzy (new)

893806 stop wasting your comments on nasty talk about Stephanie Myer. Her books are brilliant. i would not hesitate to suggest that you are a failed writer. (this was aimed at Cary's comment) yes. i have heard she is writing the series over from Edwards point of view to.
i am almost positive that i can conferm the rumor.

message 93: by Lindsey (new)

733035 Stephanie wrote a good chunk of the first book from Edward's point of view, then released it to a few people. One of these people released it to the public. She was so disgusted that she stopped writing it then and there. If you go to her website, you can read her reaction, and you can also read the part she wrote from his point of view. She figured it had already been released, so she just put it up on her website. You can tell by reading it that she was really hurt by its release. It's sad really, cuz that would have been awesome.

Oh, and there's been stories and books about vampires having children ever since the myths of vampires started. It's not like she's the first. She just took a myth, interpreted her own way.

1159909 i don't know if its true or not but someone told me: THEY ARE MAKING THE WHOLE TWILIGHT SERIES IN EDWARDS POINT OF VEIW....

does anybody know the truth behind that statement?

message 91: by Cary (new)

1151322 I agree with Michelle. Twilight is an OK book and will be a much better as a movie. However Edward being able to father a child. It shatters the whole occult Vampyre mythos. Which is they are already dead. There is a new gener of litterature now. The "Vampire Romance Novel" is what I would call these books. They suck mostly. How can the dead father a child? Stephenie is a Morman. There yah go,LOL. Cheers, Cary

1504892 i have read "the silver kiss" too i hate the ending he wasnt supposed to just leave her. i was so mad and dissappionted. i think twilight is my favorite one Then breaking dawn. eclipse and new moon make me kind of sad. im not really sure why. in new moon its b/c edward leaves but i dont know why eclipse makes me sad.

message 87: by Hannah (new)

1101768 Ashley, Eclipse was one of my favorites!

message 86: by Cary (new)

1151322 I think Twilight will be a great movie. But the first book has too much star struck teenage romance and very little violence and action. I thought the part about vampires playing baseball was just plain stupid. I really only enjoyed the last 3rd of the book when the baseball game attracted the bad guys. Modern writers are changing the whole vampire mythos. From an evil creature who is both ghost and demon. To a Mr nice guy you can fall in love with. They have taken the occult aura out of vampires and created scientific reasons for why people become vampires. They've created a new genre "Vampire Romance". I am not going to bother to read the rest of the series. Way to teenage mushy. Cary

message 85: by Ashley (new)

257698 I am not reading Eclipse. The series has been awesome so far.

1202076 yaaa boring lets talk about somthing other than books k?!?!?!?!

message 70: by Crystal (new)

1032120 When I started the book, I had a hard time getting into it. I had just finished a bunch of books about 30 and 40 year old women, then I jumped to teenagers. About 50 pages in, I was hooked.

Since I have read Twilight, I have lent my book to family, friends, and co-workers. I had them sign their name in the inside cover and date it after they were done. I now have 9 signatures and 10 is in the process.

I love chatting with people to see how they reacted to the series differently then me. I always love a new perspective.
