:d thanks, but i have already read the series i meant that I have yet to read many other SK books. I also wish I could relive all of the suspense and wonder that is the DT series.

1376766 Nah, we're a free and easy kind of group - no rigid posting rules here. We go where the conversation takes us. :P

But here's the Pet Sematary link, if you'd feel better posting there: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1011...

Now there's a great way to put it!
I finished Pet Semetary today as well and, well, how do I put this.. it's not going to go on my 'favorites' bookshelf. That being said, it is still a good read and was rather thought provoking (for me, anyway), right up till the end. I got the feeling SK was just trying to 'get it over with' (the book, I mean) once he sent his family back to Chicago.
Eh, and perhaps I'm on the wrong thread for my opinion.. ah well. Directions anyone? lol

1376766 Welcome Sally!

message 635: by Sally (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hi all. I am Sally and have been a 'Constant Reader' for about 6 years. I am new to goodreads and am thrilled to find it and in exploring to find you all. I already know I am going to thoroughly enjoy this place.
I read and cherished The Stand. Quite a labor of love. Had trouble with the Dark Towers. I have read The Cell and Lisey's story, among others. I also read On Writing and loved it. I appreciate King's genius with the craft and was surprised to find this. He is brilliant. I also enjoy his allusions to other writers and find his band fascinating. I knew Ridley Pearson prior to is being famous. I love all about him and know I will enjoy reading your comments.
Best regards.

Thank-you for the welcome. Yes, I was in shock, it was all I could do to not start screaming at him. The only thing that held me back was the pleading look in his eyes that said "please don't make a big deal of this"

message 633: by Leslie (new)

1095268 Erick, I would be super stoked to sell a six pack of beer to any famous author. To sell anything to Stephen King.....gosh!!!

Nophoto-m-25x33 Hello,
I am, obviously, a Stephen King fan. I believe I have read all of his books except for the newest, "Under the Dome", and the last three books of the Dark Tower series. I say I think, there are so many I may have missed one or two.

I was born and grew up in Maine and my father knew Mr. King when he was at the University of Maine at Orono. Also, he came to the grocery store and bought a six pack of beer from me! Okay, I guess that is only exciting to me.

I am looking forward to discussing his books with all of you.

message 628: by Becky (new)

1376766 Hi Emma!

Jonathan, The Shining is my favorite (with The Stand and DT series). I'm glad that you enjoyed it! King's older stuff is very "in your face" - that's a good way of putting it. He's not afraid of death and destruction and misery and suffering. That hasn't changed in his newer books, but now, I think his outlook has changed because of his accident, and he's more careful with the lives in his books. They seem more contemplative, but still, King isn't afraid of doing ANYONE in. :)

Yesenia, the DT series only gets better as you go along. Sarah's right: SAVOR them!

Ciqu, welcome! Eyes of the Dragon is a bit different from most of King's work, but it's still a great read. I hope you enjoy it!

message 627: by Ciqu (new)

1363027 Hi, I am ciku. totally love Stephen King. My fav books are definitely The Stand and the Dark Tower series. I am about to start Eyes of the Dragon. I especially love his short stories and have read quite a few of those. I havent read ALL his books but all the ones I have read so far have been excellent! I recently bought quite a few others from a bargain section of a bookshop and can't wait to read them

message 626: by Sarah (new)

2537186 Oh, Yesenia, you can't imagine how SATISFYING the DT series is! I envy you the chance to read them for the first time - savor it!

Jonathan, glad you're getting more books under your belt. The more you read, the more addicted you will be!

Welcome to both of you!

1696311 Hi group. My name is Yesenia and i started reading SK with a copy of Firestarter i found at the library when i was a pre-teen. I had never heard of SK but quickly fell in love. My fav is the whole Dark Tower Series!! I have a lot of them left to read so I feel like kind of a newbie :) but i try to change it up with my authors alot, you know keep it fresh :D

message 624: by Jonathan (new)

Nophoto-m-25x33 Thanks for the welcome, all! Finished The Shining last night (I have to admit that the night before I did not sleep very well...) ... Excellent book!
Btw, is it my imagination or has SK toned down his books in his 'old' age? Seems like the books I read from his early days are right up in your face, so to speak, while his later ones are more subtle.. Could be just me.
Anyway, started on another early one today.. Pet Semetary.. Only about a quarter of the way through it.. I trust it gets scarier? (I've heard it's kept a lot of people up at night...) :-D

message 622: by Emma (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hi

My name's Emma and I have been a Stephen King addict since I was about 12 (14 years ago - eek!) when I first read IT.

Not sure what else to say here... so, anyway, hi!

message 621: by Lori (new)

2361637 Oops, sorry about that. I didn't see another one like that one. :)

Happy to have you Jonathan.

You should definitely check out our past group discussion... I think it's one of the best and most interesting we've had so far. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4155...

message 614: by Jonathan (new)

Nophoto-m-25x33 Hey all,

Been on GR a while but have never really done anything with it, so here's to a new beginning! :)

I'm one of those 'Constant Readers' King occasionally speaks of.. well, I have been since 2003 or so, anyway. Still trying to get my hands on every book he's ever written!

To give ya an idea of where I'm coming from: I loved the Dark Tower series (read it twice now since getting it in 2005), didn't care much for Buick 8 (once through that was enough), just finished Tommyknockers yesterday (for the first time, excellent book), and I'm starting The Shining tonight (first time as well).
Hope to get Under the Dome for Christmas! :) And that's about enough about me... lol

Maybe there are just some things that are not quite seats, but almost are, and they are so popular that they were all taken. There...crisis averted. ;-)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hi all. Long time SK fan, first time GR user. My first SK book was Thinner which I read in HS. My dad had a lot of his books so after Thinner, I just started reading everything he had.

I was never able to get into the Dark Tower books but that collection is pretty much the only books by SK I haven't read.

I enjoy reading them over and over again after years go by, it's about time for me to read IT again.

Anyway, I'm currently into Chapter 3 of "Under the Dome". I was very happy to see such a thick book, as I usually read books in a day or two.

Mostly because you can read a book for the first time only once.

message 602: by Leslie (new)

1095268 It occurs to me that I have been participating in this group for some time but I have never introduced myself.

How Rude.

But I will rectify. I am Leslie, I'm a Georgia girl, but I now make my home in Seattle, or nearby anyway. I've been a 'Constant Reader' since I was far too young to read King novels. I can remember picking up my mother's copy of Night Shift when I was....ohhh....maybe 12. Later I snuck away with her copy of The Stand and then finally bought my own copy of Carrie. I now find myself seeking; yet reluctant to read everything he's ever written.

I'm glad to have found a place here among other great fans. Cheers!

message 601: by Tom (new)

2458751 I saw another; I wrote it down and have the page listed at home.
Mistakes like this are often corrected on subsequent printings. In case you don't know it, editions containing mistakes are often valuable.
An example is Frazier's _Cold Mountain_. Earliest printings had "man-woman" instead of "mad-woman" and were worth hundreds of dollars.

I saw that! I spent a good 3 minutes trying to figure it out and finally came to the conclusion it was a typo. I think that may be the first I've ever seen in an SK!

message 596: by Eric (new)

1372762 Hello all.
My name is Eric and Stephen King is the reason I love to read. I have been a huge fan. I started reading King in 84-85 when I was 10-11 yrs old and have been hooked ever since. I currently own all his books in paperback and Hardcover. I am now working on collecting first editions. Recently I got to live a lifelong dream and got to see Mr King speak in MN. And I was one of the lucky few to get an autographed book by lottery. I cant wait to meet some other fans and participate in the group.
Thanks

message 595: by Deanna (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 *waves*

I'm Deanna (as if you couldn't tell by my username).

I have read several SK books when I was younger, however, the only book that I actually finished was Pet Semetary. I remember I had nightmares for a while after reading that book...and I loved it! I'm the type of reader that has to be captivated by the book within the first couple chapters otherwise, it will be put down. Unfortunately, I've done that to several SK books such as "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" (half done...sadly I don't know why I put it down...it was an easy read), "The Green Mile", "Needful Things" (I actually really enjoyed reading this book, but I think the volume was just getting to me...I was younger so what did I know?!). I still have all of these books as well as "It", "Tommyknockers", "Bag of Bones", "Rose Red".

Now that I'm older and more interested in reading, it was time to read some SK books!

I started to get back into reading his books when I really wanted the Nook (B&N eReader), and my first book purchase was going to be "The Stand", but alas, it was $40 (?!?!). Instead, I opted out for a paperback copy and I'm really enjoying it. I have several of his books on my wishlist. I have over 500 books, but half of it is only on GR (do you really want to know all 64 cookbooks that I have?! I don't think so).

I've watched almost all SK movies, except for The Stand and Kingdom Hospital.

And oh yeah....I talk a lot.

message 594: by Labeeb (new)

2879504 Hi everyone. This is Labeeb. I've always loved movies based on King's work, but I started readin his books THIS year I guess. I HAD read his "Here there be Tygers" one or two years back though. But I read the first part in dark tower series this year and loved it. I'm reading "needful things" at the moment.
