Introduce yourself
Hi, I'm Penny and I been reading Stephen King since the publishing of "Carrie" in 1974. My favorites are "The Talisman, Rose Madder, and The Eyes of the Dragon.
A quick question guys... what is that book Uncle Stevie's reading... you know, the pic at this group home page? kinda curious...
I was wondering that myself jzhunagev. It seems to be a Kate Atkinson book called When Will There Be Good News? A Novel who seems to be an author he particularly likes at the present. He had another one of her books listed as one of his top ten books of 2008.
I love it when I find out my fav author likes authors I like. I haven't read When Will There Be Good News yet, but I loved Case Histories! Which book of hers did he choose as his top ten of 2008?
To be honest Betsy I don`t remember. I just remember reading his top 10 books of 2008 & her name came up. I just googled `Stephen Kings favourite books`, so I`m sure you`ll be able to find it easily enough.
Funny... I just liked the pic on the homepage because he was reading but I haven't checked out what he was reading just yet!
The thing I really loved about CASE HISTORIES is the way the different stories weaved together. Of course the characters were awesome and the mysteries fascinating. If you're female you will most likely fall in love with the hero! A truly different kind of mystery.
Hello! I'm Marissa. When I was a kid I was always intrigued by a creepy book on my parents shelf with a picture of a hand that was wrapped in gauze. The gauze was coming undone, revealing that the hand was covered with eyes. The book was Night Shift and the picture was an image from the story "I am the Doorway". I finally plucked up the courage to "borrow" the book and read the stories when I was around 13. That book now sits on my bookshelf, surrounded by at least 25 other King books, all of which I have read at least once.I love the Dark Tower series (of course) and all the other stories that make up the vast web of connections he has weaved into a crazy universe!
OK - Becky and Kandice - you both have basically read or want-to-read EVERY SINGLE book on all of my shelves!! is this normal?!? I love it! I thought I was a book lover but you guys blow me outta the water! Inspiring! Thanks all for the welcome.
Introducing myself here....Long-time King fan from Massachusetts. I think I was about 13 when I started reading SK (almost 21 years ago!), Misery was the first book of his I had read and I've been hooked ever since. I've read almost all of his stuff with the exception of Just After Sunset which I'm working my way through now. I've always been a devourer of books and many have crossed my numerous bookshelves over the years, but SK's books are some of the few that are staples on my shelves, they'll always have a home and will be re-read many times.
I have to say there are very few SK books/stories I haven't enjoyed, a few of my absolute favorites being The Stand, The Talisman, and Lisey's Story. I'm firmly convinced that SK's talent as an author absolutely improves with every book he writes, and that he knows his craft well enough that he would never write something that wasn't worth writing. I know when I pick up a SK book that it's going to be GOOD, not just good.
Hey all! Heather (grrlwonder) here. My mom encouraged me to read anything and everything I was interested in, including her books. My first Stephen King book was The Shining when I was 8, closely followed by Cujo. I was hooked and read IT in the 5th grade, which only solidified by distrust & disgust of clowns. I've read all the novels and most the collections. Currently reading Under the Dome. I feel like I've grown up with Uncle Stevie explaining life to me and hope he's there for my daughter as well.

did i see that right? Kandice and Becky have a new protege?"
There are worse things to be:D
my Name is Melvyn, funny thing the first King I read is the only one i didnt give it a 5 star rating, but after reading cujo and getting scared shitless i was hooked. Dark tower series is like a part of my life, i still get goosebumps thinking about it
Hi All!
Huge Stephen King fan and have been reading him for years and years. I love the Gunslinger series and well honestly everything else he's done! Looking forward to Under the Dome.
Hello! I'm a relatively new King fan - I "converted" after Duma Key. But before, I'd always been a snooty King skeptic. A NY Times piece last week called Under the Dome "literary", which got me thinking about the age-old genre fiction vs. literary fiction debate. Is King unfairly treated by critics because he's viewed as a horror and fantasy novelist? I wrote a blog about this, and would love if you came by and joined the discussion at http://thenewdorkreviewofbooks.blogspot....Thanks!

Alright gang is anybody reading this massive tome on-the-go? I usually only read hardbacks at home, but I've got a feeling that I'm not going to want to put this one down once I crack it open. :D Are there any book-covers out there useful for hauling these giant novels around. (Especially helpful to me since I have Jordan/Sanderson's 'A Gathering Storm' to also start.
Leslie, I've been reading The Gathering Storm for about a week, and I have about 250 pages to go. I have left it at home and read it strictly here rather than tote it around. For my book to take to work and read at lunch, I've been working on my re-read of Eyes of the Dragon. The frustrating thing there is that I'm not making much progress at all with the latter. When I finish TGS, I'll probably bring Eyes home and knock it out in a sitting or two.

Come to think of it, I've never read The Eyes of the dragon. Does that disqualify me as a Constant Reader?
Even constants skip a beat here and there.....I must confess to having never read Dreamcatcher or Black House.
And I haven't read all of the stories in Nightmares & Dreamscapes.
Yeah it happens to all of us. I have Duma Key, got it when it first came out, but haven't cracked it open yet. There's just so many to read.
My name is Sara and I just joined - and just finished "Under the Dome" about six minutes ago. First SK novel was Misery during summer camp in 8th grade. I've been hooked ever since and have read most of them multiple times. Glad to be here.
Welcome! I can't wait to get my copy of Under the dome from the library! It seems they haven't even started passing them out yet. Errrrrr!
Hi, all! I am honored and awed to be in the presence of so many King fans. I always felt like my obsession with the man might be a little unusual, so it is with great excitement that I join this group! I'm especially excited to see posts about books I didn't even know existed. You all have so much to teach me...I can't wait!
I am a new member--I have read Stephen King for years--think my favorite so far is it. I have a copy of Under the Dome just witing for me to pick it up, but am savoring it for the moment. I also admire Stephen King and his wife for all the causes they donate to in the state of Maine--many of them to do with books in one way or the other. Anyway--he is awesome--Crazygran
Hi everyone. This is Labeeb. I've always loved movies based on King's work, but I started readin his books THIS year I guess. I HAD read his "Here there be Tygers" one or two years back though. But I read the first part in dark tower series this year and loved it. I'm reading "needful things" at the moment.
*waves*I'm Deanna (as if you couldn't tell by my username).
I have read several SK books when I was younger, however, the only book that I actually finished was Pet Semetary. I remember I had nightmares for a while after reading that book...and I loved it! I'm the type of reader that has to be captivated by the book within the first couple chapters otherwise, it will be put down. Unfortunately, I've done that to several SK books such as "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" (half done...sadly I don't know why I put it down...it was an easy read), "The Green Mile", "Needful Things" (I actually really enjoyed reading this book, but I think the volume was just getting to me...I was younger so what did I know?!). I still have all of these books as well as "It", "Tommyknockers", "Bag of Bones", "Rose Red".
Now that I'm older and more interested in reading, it was time to read some SK books!
I started to get back into reading his books when I really wanted the Nook (B&N eReader), and my first book purchase was going to be "The Stand", but alas, it was $40 (?!?!). Instead, I opted out for a paperback copy and I'm really enjoying it. I have several of his books on my wishlist. I have over 500 books, but half of it is only on GR (do you really want to know all 64 cookbooks that I have?! I don't think so).
I've watched almost all SK movies, except for The Stand and Kingdom Hospital.
And oh yeah....I talk a lot.
Hello all.
My name is Eric and Stephen King is the reason I love to read. I have been a huge fan. I started reading King in 84-85 when I was 10-11 yrs old and have been hooked ever since. I currently own all his books in paperback and Hardcover. I am now working on collecting first editions. Recently I got to live a lifelong dream and got to see Mr King speak in MN. And I was one of the lucky few to get an autographed book by lottery. I cant wait to meet some other fans and participate in the group.
Thanks
Check out the transposed words on page 854 of "Under the Dome", the phrase is "and every almost seat in the Town Hall was taken."
Like finding a secret prize!

I saw that! I spent a good 3 minutes trying to figure it out and finally came to the conclusion it was a typo. I think that may be the first I've ever seen in an SK!
