1641459 I thought it was fascinating to see how she "pioneered" female journalism, but I agree with Judy in the fact that there was not a lot of reflection on the part of the author. She did express guilt over different things, though. I felt the book overall was a bit tedious to get through even though her experiences and encounters with all kinds of people are amazing. I would recommend getting it from the library instead of purchasing it. It may be a book not everyone will want to read in its entirety.

1368686 Memoirs are generally one of my favorite genres, but this book has been a disappointment. Barbara jumps from person to person, experience to experience, and there is little if any reflection on what she has been through/learned. It's been a few years, but I read Jane Fonda's memoir and thought it had more depth. The most interesting part of her life to me is her mentally disabled sister, Jackie, who played a large role in the family dynamics, especially the parents' relationship. It's interesting to me how being Jackie's sister impacted Barbara, possibly because as a teacher I interact with many children and families who deal with special needs.
