i'm thinking of starting one up, so how do i go about it?

i thought i'd create this space for people who have book blogs to connect with each other and give support for people like myself who want to start one up.

Have you got a book blog that you want people to know about?

have you heard about or follow a book blog?

Nicola has a you tube book reviews which you can find the thread by following this link:
You tube vampire book review videos

What is your preferred way of book blogging? is it like nicola's? or is it writing? Please tell us about it.

feel free to promote your book blog.
we just ask that there is No Spamming please.

Dairenna Vonravenstone (VonRavenstone) | 3 comments I have a blog though I'm not really doing much with it at the moment. I really should be updating the darn thing but I'm just not...

Anyway, starting a blog is pretty easy. There's blogger.com that allows a free blogspace through google. Some things I've read suggest having a few that you've all ready written in the background but that's entirely up to you.

As to actual blogging, you just have to keep up at it, that's all. I'm assuming book blogging would be about what you've read so that might make things easier and fun.

I'd follow you once you got it going. :)

Dani Smith (DaniQuickDraw) | 7 comments Let me rec a few book blogs:

#1. Laurie J's book blog:
One of the best "indie" book blogs I have found. Laurie is a pro reviewer with Coffee Time Romance and Night Owl Reviews. She reviews books, interviews authors, and posts contests galore.

http://lauriethoughts-reviews.blogspo...

#2 Black Rose Reviews:

Catie (a member here, I believe) is a newbie to the review scene, but has made leaps and bounds. She is also a Night Owl Reviewer and has gorgeous artwork up on her blog. Her primary focus is paranormal fiction, romance, and erotica, ranging from the mildest YA to the most scorching NC-17 read.

My own blog, where I mutter about writing, reading, art, and interview fellow authors:

don't worry, i set mine at christmas time, and i haven't posted a single thing yet!
However when i send the mass emails to everyone, i write them in word(or equivelent). I know my weakness is spelling and grammar. but hey i try. at least people only have to put up with it with comments like these ;o) lol
anyway what i'm trying to say is to type it up and have a good look at it before you do your posting.
this is why i haven't posted anything yet.... i have changed my first post ten times already! i really should bite the bullet and do it.

Nessa | 2 comments I ended up starting a book blog and although it is still in the working stages, I think it coming along nicely. I used Blogger and found it so user friendly. There are lots of tips to be found at Book Blogs.

Coming in June I am doing a big giveaway with a few other blogs and am having another one when I reach 100. Check it out and please leave a comment :)

message 15: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I keep thinking I might start one at some point but don't know where to start have checked out a few to see what they are like. I'm not really a good writer so that keeps me from starting anything. I've been keeping a book journal for years but even when I write those comments and such I never know what to write that doesn't give anything away. even if I'm the only one that is reading it. I guess starting to write more on my GRs bookshelves would be one way to start. start out small. Maybe I need blogging for dummies or something

message 17: by A.F. (new)

A.F. (scribe77) | 8 comments My advice when writing a blog is find your niche. When I started out I didn't know what to write, so out of desperation I started writing book reviews for the indie authors I knew. That evolved into interviews, guest posts, etc. and now I have a writers/book blog. I was even crazy enough to start a second blog that spotlights books, TV shows and movies.

message 18: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Thanks for sharing. I'm still in the thinking stage. really this time of year with the shore (back and forth) it's hard to take time to really concentrate on doing anything on the laptop. even though when I'm away I have it with me it's just fast stops. this weekend I only got on once I think real fast. busy weekend with a house full and kept busy with the little ones. lucky we had 2 nice days before it started raining the one night and all day yesterday and again this morning. now back home to catch up again. read 5 pages in a book and maybe 4 pages of the nook book. my concentration just wasn't in it this weekend.
I guess when I was taking 1 to 1 mac classes for a year I should have taken a blog class. I did but didn't get anything out of it because I didn't have anything planned out.

Fangs for the Fantasy | 6 comments I think that the important thing is to really focus on on what you want to say. My blog is called Fangs for the Fantasy and basically what we do is we look at everything and anything urban fantasy, and paranormal steampunk from a social justice perspective. Once a week we even write a post about recurring tropes that are simply wrong or irritating that we have found in the genre. We even created our own lexicon to describe these repeated tropes. We usually have at least one book review a day and then we review whatever popular television show is currently airing so right now we are reviewing, Lost Girl, The Walking Dead and The Vampire Diaries alone with books. This gives our space a great balance that seems to be working well. So, in short my advice is to pick your niche carefully and make sure you are passionate about it. Thousands of blogs are started daily only to be quickly abandoned.

message 22: by Delia (new)

Delia | 17 comments Hi Everyone,
I've been working on my blog and am trying to get some followers. I was also hoping to find an author who was interested in doing an interview and potentially a give away for the blog. I figured it could be a great way for us both to get some exposure. Anyways if you get a chance please stop by or you can drop me a message so we can talk about the author interview.

I will try to check out everyone's blogs this week :)

message 26: by Brett (new)

Brett (battlinjack) | 4 comments I have a couple blogs but have been absolutely horrible about using them and keeping them updated. This is my review/book blog-
http://asthebookwormturns.blogspot.com/

I currently have zero views and zero followers! LOL!

By posting here, I hope to force myself to get on the ball! I really do read so much and there have been a lot of generous authors and publishers who have sent me books to read and review. (lots of 'ands' in there)
So now I MUST post one review a week at the minimum and get up to posting a review for each and every book I read.

Any and all comments are welcome.

Adele (Turtil) | 1625 comments Mod
Hi Brett did you know you can link your blogspot blog to good reads? I am still working out the finer details but I have been using the copy to blog option that good reads offers. Basically you have your review and once you save your review you will see the box that come up asking to add to Facebook, twitter etc. But you have HTML code at the bottom and that is what you copy and paste onto your blog. Just go to post a new blog, specify that it is HTML and paste. Put a title and then your done. Not only will your review show but a copy of the books front cover show as well for a nice professional look.

Cool! Thanks for the tip. Now I just have to remember to try it out!
I'm reading 2 eBooks sent to me at the moment (Knock Knock by S.P. Miskowski & The Burning Sky by Joseph Robert Lewis) both of which are looking pretty good.
I'll post reviews for those and see what happens.

A have to tell you that I have appreciated your tips and comments here on Goodreads.

Riley Steel (RileySteel) | 246 comments ive never heard of that!

message 34: by Delia (new)

Delia | 17 comments OOP I wrote the wrong thing LOL But I'll tell you what a blog hop is either way, A Blog Hop is when a group of bloggers participate is some kind of event all on the same day, week or month. Everyone who participates has a button for the blog so that readers can hop from blog to blog entering contests and hopefully checking out your reviews as well. A Blog tour (which is what I meant to write) is when an author sets dates to visit certain blogs promoting a book or books. At each stop the author may do an interview or giveaway and the blogger may do a review or some other kind of promotion.
Both are designed to get more publicity for your blog and work pretty well from what I have seen. Hope that helps.

Tracey Sinclair | 13 comments I'm an author and blogger (my blog Body of A Geek Goddess was shortlisted for the Cosmo Awards last year) and I'd say to all you considering or worrying about a blog - just go for it! You can always change templates later, or even abandon one blog after you start and restart another one, but give it a go. It's enormously rewarding and, as a writer (I have 3 published novels and a produced play, to give my 'credentials'!) it's a fantastic way of getting into the habit of writing regularly, even if you only write a paragraph each time. Worry about the technical stuff later - it took me months, I'm ashamed to say, to figure out how to upload pictures! But do it - you won't regret it!

(my blog, btw, is www.bodyofageekgoddess.blogspot.com),

The second is where I blog about writing, pubishing and stuff that crosses my mind. I also use this blog to help other authors promote; www.rebekaharrington.com

Any authors reading this, please get in touch and organise a feature or guest post.

message 39: by Rebeka (new)

Rebeka Harrington (Bektamun) | 13 comments Hey folks, as an indie author I know how hard it can be getting your book promoted. Let's face it, most of us would rather be writing than promoting. For nearly 12months I've been using my blog as a means not only to help promote my work, but to help fellow indie authors. Specifically those falling in the category of Speculative Fiction.

I don't do reviews (please don't ask) because between writing, blogging and managing a business I simply don't have time. Just because I don't do book reviews doesn't mean there isn't others ways of spreading the word.

Take a look at: http://rebekaharrington.com/author-pr...

I make no promises of a massive increase in sales or instant stardom. No one can promise that. My mission is to help my fellow writers get as much exposure as possible. Every bit counts.

I hope to see my inbox overflowing with requests from my indie colleagues.

Kristen Day (kris10day) | 1 comments Hi Everyone! I just released the debut novel in my Daughters of the Sea Trilogy called Forsaken! If you're hunting for a steamy paranormal romance interlaced with darkness, murder, and heart pounding suspense, this book is for you! It's available now on the Kindle and the Nook!

Forsaken (Daughters of the Sea #1) by Kristen Day
Synopsis:
Once you’ve been touched by darkness, it never leaves you…

Abandoned by her parents as an infant; seventeen year old Hannah spent her childhood wading through countless foster families until being adopted by the Whitmans three years ago. Unfortunately, Atlanta’s high society wasn’t quite ready for Hannah…or the strange events that plague her.

Chilling visions of murder, unexplained hallucinations, and a dark, mysterious guy who haunts her nightmares all culminate to set in motion a journey of self-discovery that will challenge everything she’s ever believed; not to mention her sanity.

Sent to live at The House of Lorelei on Bald Head Island, NC for ‘kids like her’, Hannah quickly realizes things are not what they seem. Her fellow ‘disturbed’ teens are actually the descendents of mythical Sea Gods and Goddesses. And so is she.

But when Finn, the ghost from her dreams, appears in the flesh; her nightmares become reality and her dark visions begin coming true. Inexplicably drawn to him, she can’t deny the dangerous hold he has on her heart. The deadly secrets he harbors will ultimately test her courage and push the boundaries of her love.

She must decide if she is ready to embrace the ancient legend she is prophesized to be a part of. The fate of all the descendents will forever depend upon it.

Let me know what you think (and don't hold back!)

Hi kristen this is topic is only for the promotion of blogs. If you wish to promote your book, the authors unite topic in the members work folder is where it should be kept. I'll give you a week to remove your comment, after that i will do it for you. You just need to copy and paste into the authors unite topic.
If you still want to promote your blog, just tell us a bit about your blog, is it mainly about your writing, or do you do book reviews...you know that sort of thing.
