1. Pick 12 books that have been on your TBR list for over a year. These can be twelve books you've had on your shelf, or twelve books you've been wanting to read for at least a year.
2. Pick two additional TBRs as alternates, in case a couple of your TBRs are unreadable.
3. List your 12 books + 2 alternates in a thread you create under the "My TBRs" below (see my example). To start a thread, look at the Reading Group Challenge for 2011 bar. To the far right is a "View All" link. Click that link. Then, in the title bar on the next page is a "New Topic" link. Click that link to create a place for your list.
4. "Cross off" the books as you read them. To cross out a book, find your post, click the Edit link, and add S (for strikeout) at the beginning of the title and /S for end strikeout at the end of the strikeout, each surrounded by brackets. So, it would look like this, with S's instead of zzz's:
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
If you're a current Book Addicts member, you have until midnight on 01/01/2011 to finalize your list. You can post your list and make all the changes you want until then, but no changes after 01/01/2011. If you join book addicts after that date, you may still participate by posting your list within two weeks of joining the group, but you can't make changes after you post your list.
Those who have completed the challenge by 1/1/2012 will be entered in a drawing. Three lucky winners will each receive a $25 gift certificate to the online bookstore of their choice (you must have an e-mail address and the bookstore you pick must offer e-mail gift certificates ala Amazon.com).
The only real restriction is that the book must have been published 2009 or earlier. It can't have been on your TBR for over a year if the book itself is less than a year old. I do know that sometimes we hear about books ahead of time ("Ohhh, I really want to read the next Jim Butcher book") but that makes it too hard for me to track. You'll need to limit yourself to books pubished 2009 or earlier.
I hate to be a hard-ass about it, but last year it was a royal pain trying to contact people who posted books that didn't meet the requirement (not enough books, books too recent). Those not meeting the minimum requirement will simply not be entered in the drawing at the end of the challenge.
