Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments Maybe when I finish 1984 I should start Pattern Rec so we can get to some discussion. What are you reading now?

Kat (KatCav) | 38 comments I got lost in the Sue Grafton alphabet series - once I've finished the latest one - U is for Undertow, I can get into proper reading again!

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments I've had a few people recommend those books.

What did you think of The Passage? I'm a big girl, I can take it ;)

I'm still only a couple of chapters in, I got side-tracked. Once I'm done with Undertow, it'll be my main focus. So far though, I like :)

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments I finished 1984 today and got a few pages into Pattern Recognition. I already really like his use of language. Love the description of the soul not being able to travel fast enough to explain jet lag.

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments I'm reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It's actually pretty amazing that this book got published. I think the writer wrote, I'm just guessing, maybe 30 pages of new material. It's the laziest book I've read. I have to finish it though, I've only been unable to finish one book before (Pygmy by Chuck Palahniuk). What are you reading now?

Kat (KatCav) | 38 comments I just finished The Passage.

And I'm still... really not sure about it? The ending was... weird. I'm not sure how I'd have edited it, but I'm pretty sure I would have, in some way.

Too many times I put it down, and had to force myself to pick it back up again. There were a lot of conclusions, and it could have ended at any point, for me.

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments Ah, I'm sorry you had to force yourself to keep picking it back up. I hate that feeling. I will be rather pissed if does kill off everyone but Amy but I do like his storytelling. I like that he switched to 'recovered' letters at the end, I thought that was an interesting way to tell the story.

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments I'm reading The Ice Princess now and I love it so far. Thank you so much for sending it over.

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments I really liked The Ice Princess. Here's my short review:
I loved a lot of the imagery in the book. The writer is able to create living, breathing characters with what seems like such ease. I enjoyed the story and glad that she had murders and mysteries happening from all different angles and not just one evil person. There was a great sense of humor about the book and a genuine romance that develops which isn't between two perfectly beautiful people but people that find beauty in each other. I really enjoyed the book and cant wait to read more from her.

What are you reading now?

Kat (KatCav) | 38 comments I'm still in Crime Land, reading Ann Cleves Shetland series.

I'll try send over the other two Lackberg books, her characterisation is wonderful.

Also reading Jasper Fforde's Shades of Grey again.

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments I just read The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) I really enjoyed it even though it wasn't very original as far as the story goes (1984 mixed with Battle Royale).

What should we read next for a group read?

Kat (KatCav) | 38 comments You pick :)

I'm still on the Shetland series, crime set in a remote world, where everyone knows everything and secrets remain so.

The weird thing is, I read all 21 books, and can't remember a single plotline.

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments Well, Brandon just bought me Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) so it might me a little while until I can start a new book. I'll try to look though my to-reads and see if any of ours overlap.

Uh, oh...that is not a good sign. Hehe I read a couple of the Stephanie Plum books and I could feel my brain turning to mush.

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments K, it looks like you added Little Brother but I can't tell if you've read it or not. Someone recommended that to me so I was thinking of reading it. I checked and it's at my library.

Kat (KatCav) | 38 comments It's great - I love Doctorow. The best bit is, he puts his books online in e-pub format for free :)

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments Thanks so much for the link!

I saw that you added Wil Wheaton as an author you like. What do you like of his? I saw an interview with him and was interested in his writing. I love that he embraces he geekness and is proud of it...I always try to do the same.

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments Hey, Kat! How've you been? Did you finish The Book Thief and what did you think? I was interested in that one. I'm reading The Summer Guest liking it so far.

Kat (KatCav) | 38 comments I'm really just getting in to it - it's been a heavy week - maybe it should be our Feb book?

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments Sounds good to me!

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments I'm reading The Traveller, about half way through, and I'm loving it. Thanks for sending it over. You really didn't like the rest of the series, did you? I'll probably still want to read the rest of the books because I can't leave well enough alone. Haha

What are you guys reading?

Kaila (MonkeyTamer) | 52 comments I'm reading Watership Down. Now I know why you compared it to The Passage. Once they made it to the other warren I knew it would end up like The Haven in the The Passage. Interesting.
