I am sooooo jealous!

Nophoto-f-25x33 Wow! I have never been to Disney World. If I saw anything from Pirates I would want to take it with me! lol. Oh, and Narnia would be fun too!

message 158: by Ann (new)

446509 Oh that is a bummer! But, at least you got to see some of the set pieces and props. I always find that so fascinating!! I had far too much fun in Disney World, analyzing the Barbossa costume from Pirates, a Storm Trooper Star Wars suit, or some props and costumes from Narnia. But, the closest I've gotten to anything like that for HP is buying things from the Noble Collection, lol!!

message 157: by Jenny (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Yep, it was really neat to see things that they used on set and everything. The sad part was i only got 45 min to go through it. =( We were on a schedule. We ended up being late to everything because we got to our hotel so late at night every night. I was kinda bummed about it!

I'm SO envious, Jenny! I'm glad that the exhibit was good though, nice to have someone who's been there report on it. Maybe I'll still get to one at some point:)

The exhibit for Harry Potter that was in Chicago was amazing. I went for my school trip and it was probably the highlight of my day! =)

886144 i went to the movie last night ... i couldn't follow it at all, but that was probably because i didn't read the book. lol O_o

message 153: by Lacy (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Ok I LOVED this movie. It is my favorite one so far.

oddly enough my mothers complaint was the kiss between Harry and Ginny. it didnt happen the way she wanted it to and it really upset her. that was the ONLY scene that she didn't want changed...

message 152: by Angie, YA lovin mod!! (new)

86285 Spoiler for those who haven't read the books:

Can't wait to see Dumbledore's funeral in the next movie.

message 151: by Nicole (new)

2047735 If you have not seen the 6th movie yet, do not read this. The 6th movie was probably the best one so far. It seemed like it wasn't just about fighting Voldemort, it was about their own lives and relationships too. In the previous movie, Harry was just so angry and bitter. I can understand that the movie was rated PG, but the scene at the lake was a little intense. They definately downplayed Snape being the half-blood prince, and they even threw in some stuff that wasnt in the book, like the burrow burning down. But, all in all, I think the movie was great, and yes, I was one of those people who went to see it at midnight when it came out, and I will be doing the same thing with the next one..... or two! The Deathly Hallows had better be as good as The Half Blood Prince.

message 150: by Pandy (new)

1675990 They cut the battle because they didn't want the battle in DH to be repetitive.

message 149: by London (new)

2222361 I enjoyed the movie... You must go in expecting for certain things to be cut... I mean it can't be a 5 hour movie. ( I know many of us wouldn't mind) I was dissapointed that the dursleys weren't in the begining of the film. I thought that was so random. There should have been some scenes of the battle of hogwarts because that forshadows the next movie.

message 148: by Angie, YA lovin mod!! (new)

86285 I really enjoyed the film myself. So much is going on though! I think had the name of the film not been the Half Blood Prince they would've even left out that part. I do kinda think they focused on Ron and Lanader a little too much too.

message 147: by Lisa (new)

83445 I thought the actors were all great and I enjoyed it. But, while I knew they had to cut out most of the book, I was disappointed by how much they left out. Also, this is the first of the 6 movies out so far where I felt that if viewers hadn't read the book, and especially if they also hadn't seen the previous movies, they'd have had no idea what was going on. They wouldn't understand who was who, the importance of the relationships, even most of the plot. That's too bad because I felt that the other 5 movies could work as stand alone experiences. I've seen all the other movies and I'm a huge fan of the books, so I enjoyed it immensely. It was like revisiting the story and it was fun, and yes, the cinematography was gorgeous.

1675990 I think the Burrow can be fixed - but I don't like that part either. Overall, I do love the movie, as I have said. Rickman has more screen time than usual and is wonderful as always. I actually think the romance was not over done. I expected to see much more of Jessie, but the romance is mixed nicely with shots of Malfoy in the RoR - Tom's the best actor among the younger ones, I think. The battle at the end was cut so as not to be repetitive in DH. Dumbledore's funeral was filmed and might be in DH. I actually like the wand lit vigil. Rupert is hilarious and is perfect in the love potion secene. I love the "After the Burial" part. Dan does very well with the amusing lines. Gambon's great overall, which really surprised me. The cinematography is beautiful.

message 145: by Colleen (new)

2323636 I was not impressed.

SPOILERS!

The burning of the burrow, the lack of Dumbledore's funeral, the omission of the battle at Hogwarts. So disappointed. Snape didn't have nearly enough screen time (never does.) It focused WAY too much on the romance and Won-Won. They could've nixed completely making up the burning of the burrow and included the battle at Hogwarts. Now that the burrow is destroyed, where do they plan on having Bill and Fleur's wedding?
There were some laugh out loud moments.

message 144: by Pandy (new)

1675990 I love the film - it is my favorite so far. I think Gambon (can't believe I'm saying this), Broadbent, Rickman, and Felton did an amazing job, as did the trio.

message 143: by Ann (new)

446509 I'm so anxious to see the film! I'm going (hopefully) either this Monday or Wednesday!!!!!!

message 142: by Pandy (new)

1675990 I'm happy with all the review so far. Almost all of them seem to be at least three out of five stars, though many still say the Prisoner of Azkaban is the best movie so far. We've been hearing about a bit too much romance since the test screening last September. I think it might annoy me a little, but the book did have quite a bit of romance too. I wish a bit more emphasis had been put on the Half-Blood Prince, but I'm sure Rickman will be great as always with the little time he has, which should be a bit more time than the last three films.

message 139: by Brenda (new)

2424743 Some of the people who have seen an advance showing of the 6th movie told of it focusing more on the romance than on the action in the book. I personally feel that this movie will be like the 5th where it's a great companion to those who have read the books but it will leave out so much that other non-readers may have trouble following it (or completely misunderstanding why some things happen).

message 138: by Ann (new)

446509 I don't know... but yeah, I was surprised that the 6th is PG, too! I mean ... not exactly the cheeriest of the films, is it?

message 137: by London (new)

2222361 Do you know what it might be rated? I can't believe the 6th one is PG!

message 136: by Ann (new)

446509 Oh... sorry. It could be me linking the address wrong, too. Either way, it was a pretty short article. And basically stated:

SPOILER!!!!! for DEATHLY HALLOWS!!!!!!

They are discussing breaking the movie with a cliff-hanger, right after the trio is captured in the forest. And thus, I guess, before they get taken to Malfoy Mansion. I trust that there's been a LOT of thought put into this, so I'm sure whatever place they choose will have a good reason behind it. It's not what I would have initially thought of, but it could work.

message 135: by London (new)

2222361 hmm

message 134: by Angie, YA lovin mod!! (new)

86285 I couldn't get to the article, I think that website might be down since Michael Jackson passed away and people are checking the news there.

message 133: by Ann (new)

446509 Oh... that would have been a nice ending, yes:)

message 132: by Pandy (new)

1675990 I'm not sure either. It doesn't seem like too bad a spot. I guess part two will start at Malfoy Manor. I understand cliff-hangers make people excited, but I would have liked the first part to end with a resolution, for example, after Ron comes back.

message 131: by Ann (new)

446509 (I'm posting this elsewhere, too, so if you see this in another group posting, my apologies...)

I just read this. It gives some insight into the point at where the Deathly Hallows film(s) may be split. Only read it if you're ready for a tiny bit of SPOILERS nothing major, but if you haven't read the 7th book - do NOT follow the link (just in case;>)

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/the_big_...

Anyway, thoughts? I guess it makes sense, but I wonder if it will break the flow. And how will the 2nd movie start then? Would be a different kind of ending for an HP film though, and maybe make the two films feel more like one? Not sure...

Definitely some big names are going into that movie! I haven't read the first PJ&TO yet. I'm determined to read it though.

2047735 Did anyone know that colleges have Qudditch teams? My sister was looking at some colleges, and she saw that a lot of them play Quidditch. People run around trying to get the ball through the ring while peole through dodgeballs at them. The snitch is a guy running around with a tennis ball attached to his waist with panty hose! It is hilarious to watch!

The Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder is meant to be read this way, too. But how you get kids to wait, especially if they're voracious readers, I don't know.

message 124: by Mahina (new)

76164 Ah! I see! I also love the Percy Jackson books - the Lightning Thief is being made into a movie, directed by Chris Columbus (he did HP 1 & 2), and is coming out in theaters Feb 2010. The casting looks pretty great so far!

message 123: by Brenda (last edited Jun 18, 2009 11:10AM) (new)

2424743 To Mahina,
Actually, it isn't that hard at all. They know some of the details because they see the previews on television and they do hear talk and sometimes will ask me "is it true Harry dies at the end?" in which I tell them truthfully, yes and no. But that is about it. And they like to see the pictures but since they haven't read the books, they don't have that much to go on and can only guess as what it's about. In fact, it kinda builds up the anticipation just like the HP blogs did before the books were released.

Most of their friends are talking about the latest Percy Jackson book (which my kids and I also adore and read as soon as a new one comes out) or Alex Rider instead of Harry so that helps as well.

message 122: by Angie, YA lovin mod!! (new)

86285 I wish I was able to read the series when I was younger. I didn't read them until I was in my late teens.

message 121: by Mahina (last edited Jun 18, 2009 07:21AM) (new)

76164 I'm 28 so I'm older than the kids who grew up with Harry Potter but not old enough to have kids who grew up with Harry Potter - I love the series and since I didn't start reading them at 11 I instead always liked that Harry was born in July 1980 (I was also born in July 1980 & my husband's birthday is actually July 31st).

Brenda - I love your idea of giving your kids one book a year. It's a little cruel to make them wait (lol) but I think it creates that excitement that those of us who had to wait for the books to be written experienced and makes the books more special. I don't plan on having children but if I do I may have to borrow your idea. The only problem is, how do you keep them from finding out all the exciting plot twists and towards the end, keeping who dies a secret?

message 120: by Brenda (last edited Jun 17, 2009 08:16PM) (new)

2424743 Going back to the topic about whether HP was for children or for YA, I think the perfect solution would be to start them when you are about 11 and read one book every year until you finish with the 7th. My oldest son did just that and when the 7th book came out and he was 16-about-to-turn-17, he stayed up all night long and read and read. Then, he took it to work and it was quickly picked up and read by all the other teenagers. In my personal opinion, part of their love for the series was that it was something that they grew up with. They could relate to Harry because they were the same age and going through the same feelings/personal growth issues he was (evil Voldemort notwithstanding). I am now doing the same to my two youngest boys - letting them read just the book that is the "age" they are and waiting a year for the other. (and no, they don't see the movie until AFTER they read the book).

message 119: by London (new)

2222361 gotta love harry potter!!! couldnt live without them but i have to admit it took me forever to get into them but im so happy i didnt give up on them when i first started

message 118: by Melyssa (new)

1958329 Yay!! I don't care how many previews and clips we get! I love seeing them all. I know some people feel like they've seen the whole movie with so many clips. Not me :D
Plus, Merlin looks good, so I'll be watching it anyway.

message 117: by Angie, YA lovin mod!! (new)

86285 FYI... Ann let me know about this... there will be a movie preview on NBC during their show Merlin!

message 116: by Ann (new)

446509 Lol! Yes, Dan does look a tad intense, doesn't he! ;>
I wonder which scene.... OH!!! The wedding!???? YAY!!:D

And phew! Thanks for mentioning that the Burrow attack isn't in the HP6 book! I mean, I, too, thought it looked really neat, but I kept thinking I was forgetting something!! Ahh... my brain can relax now;>

message 115: by Pandy (last edited Jun 15, 2009 09:07AM) (new)

1675990 I'm so glad Quidditch is going to be in HBP too. I can't wait for the movie (which will be here in just under a month!) even though a lot seems to have been changed or cut - for example, I really like the look of the Burrow attack, even though it isn't in the book.

I like this picture from the DH filming, even though Dan looks a bit odd:

message 114: by Ann (new)

446509 Yeah, thanks for the links to the picutres!!:D

And I agree, I'm always sad when things get left out of HP movies - though, I do understand why they can't include everything. So, it'll be interesting to see the final book be split into two movies! Huzzah! I, too, am always up for longer HP films;> Oh, and I'm pretty sure the Quiditch from HP5 is going to be in this next film instead - so phew!:D

I know what you mean. I had to do a book report on the 5th book and that made me SO EXCITED to see the movie. I rented it and I was really sad. I mean they even cut out ALL of the Quiditch stuff. (sniffle)
