1589641 My name is Andrew Sprong, author of "Haley Cork and the Blue Door" a cautionary tale about a girl, a cat, a sentient door, and what it means to be a person. It is also about humanity's expansion into space and a perspective on the scale of such an endeavor -- even if the traveling part were eliminated.

83236 This is Rana, Egyptian, I'm 26 years old, up till now a java developer, stuck in the IT field which is full of systematic and lifeless stuff, but challenging. Think I'm going through this turning phase, I don't know I'll end up doing what. I Like to read, but I think I'm saturated with many thoughts that I need to let them out.

1665292 Hi, Lauren. Since you're 14, make sure you have your parents permission to read certain books that may not be suitable for young readers. Thank you.

message 102: by David (new)

418103 My name is David Lee Summers and I'm the author of four published novels with a fifth on the way at the end of the year. You can learn more about my writing at www.davidleesummers.com

I also edit a small science fiction and fantasy magazine called Tales of the Talisman so, I read a lot for that. I'm afraid we're closed to submissions at the moment but we re-open to submissions in January. Of course, readers can check us out anytime. Guidelines for writers and information for readers is at www.talesofthetalisman.com

Since I write science fiction and fantasy, that's my favorite genre to read -- but I do read in a wide variety of genres.

message 101: by James (new)

667234 Thank you for the invite, Karey!

I'm Jim - I am a 49-year-old psychotherapist and author of three books in print on addiction treatment, also working on a proposal for another on treatment program design and management. This is a second career - I was in the Marines for 20 years and retired 12 years ago.

I live in Albuquerque, NM with my wife Jan, who is a clinical social worker, and our elderly cat. We live on the same block where I lived as a teenager. I have two adult children, a son and a daughter, and two grandsons.

I've been an insatiable reader all my life - if I'm eating breakfast and don't have anything else to read, I'll read everything on the cereal box. My favorite genres are psychology, history, politics (I'm a solid liberal on most issues), science fiction and fantasy, and general science.

My other hobbies are fiddling with computers, target shooting, collecting pottery, and taking our grandkids to the zoo, natural history museum, Explora science museum, aquarium, and/or various parks (we have all the parks with good playground equipment marked with stars on a map of the city in my car.)

This looks as if it's going to be a fun group.

message 98: by Dawn (new)

1338163 Hi, my name is Dawn! My husband made me start going to the library recently to rent books because he says that he can no longer keep up with my book habit! I love to read and he loves to call me a bookworm! I used to give my best friend a hard time because her nose was always in a book and now I'm just the same! She told me the other day, "Ha! Welcome to dorkdom!"

I currently live in Washington, D.C. My husband and I moved here about 4 years ago, shortly after my mother was diagnosed with cancer. It was hard moving away during such a hard time for her, but she always kept telling me "A sick bird never leaves it's nest". My mother passed away about a year after we moved away. It was hard, but one day I hope that I can write a book about what a courageous person she was. She was like a flower that finally had really bloomed right before her death! I truly think that she was becoming an angel. I hope to one day write about it, but right now I'm doing my best to just "blog" about it. It is just too hard to talk about for very long periods!

So, we are living in D.C. and some days I hate it and some days I love it. I blogged one day talking about how I hated it and all you heard was police sirens and drug atticks yelling at nothing. The next day I blogged about how if you look at it in a differnet light, it can actually be beautiful. The architecture of the building is amazing and it can be fun to people watch all the "D.C. powerplayers".

It's been hard since my mother died. On all of my family. It's been hard to watch my dad struggle with dealing with her death and it's been hard to watch people take advantage of him! However, I think life is about learning and we obviously have some lessons to learn from everything. I do think that my reading takes me away from a lot of the "drama" and it's nice to get a breath of fresh air. I personally think life is like a book, the ending is the revelation that explains everything!

message 97: by Ronda (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hi, I'm Ronda, I met Karey on the phone and she led me here. I am very excited to read her book. I like to read in my spare time, as well as crochet, knit, and do cross stitch. Since I work so much I don't have much time for any of them.

message 94: by George (new)

1610831 Hi, This is very strange, joining a group with the name Kingworth. I have spent most of my life correcting people who have misread my driving licence and called me Mr. Kingsworth. "Sorry, officer, my name is Kingsnorth." Apparently, there are really no Kingsworths. It was a spelling mistake when someone originally wrote a 'w' instead of a 'n'. I can be accused of this myself so it is easy to do. I first remember the name Kingsworth from a news report on the BBC back in 1967 when visiting friends with my family. It was a horrifying news report as we discovered one of my cousins had been killed. Perhaps, that is why Kingsworth is so annoying but then this group is not Kingsworth but Kingworth. The 's' makes all the difference. All the best George.

message 93: by Serena (new)

1349220 Hello: I'm a reader, writer, and poet, and sometimes amateur photographer. I've written about 5 unpublished novels and hundreds of poems. Some poems are published and some are not. I currently edit newsletters for trade associations and companies, but would love to get out of the rut into the publishing world. I love reading anything, so long as it keeps my interest. I really enjoy Anita Shreve, among others.

Looking forward to find new books to read.

message 83: by Penny (new)

1044462 My name is Penny. I'm the author of The Last Time We Were Children, a book of poetry published in 2007. The audio version of the book was released this summer. I have completed a second manuscript and am gradually working on a third. "Gradually" is a pretty accurate word since I homeschool my three boys. But, between their antics and all the things we are learning, I'm accumulating lots of material!

When I'm not homeschooling, I am reading books for my two book clubs, leading a women's Bible study, and trying to stay sane.

You can learn more about me at my website http://www.pennyspagesonline.com/

Looking forward to being part of this group and reading your book, Karey!

message 82: by Rosalind M (new)

Endah, I'm wishing you luck on finding a husband! May he be wealthy, handsome, and everything you hope for :) Really, what I hope for you is that you find someone who loves you unconditionally, and who has a great sense of humor and, well, a good bank account so you are comfortable and healthy always.

message 74: by Stacy (new)

649634 Hi. My name is Stacy. I love to read! My house is full of books. My husband teases me that I have at least one book in every room in the house (which is true!) I'm 25 been married for 4 years. I have health problems that not everyone understands. I have fibromyalgia, diabetes, and other things but that's enough about that. Books are a major comfort to me they have been all my life. I learned early that books don't judge you. Also I learned that when I read I can escape from the pains that I deal with everyday. I read almost every genre. I volunteer in my friends First Grade Classroom. I enjoy watching movies but given the choice between reading or a movie the book always wins!

Stacy

message 73: by Audrey (new)

Nophoto-f-25x33 Hi - my house looks like I'm in the 1001 book business :) I love sci-fi too but more fantasy type. I am reading Weber which is a little more battle info. and particulars than I care for but I like the heroine of the series.

message 72: by Susan (new)

833620 Wendy, there's historical fiction in my future if I live long enough. I'm sure it's quite a challenge. Good luck with it. For now, I'm working on my fourth mystery. Then I plan to switch gears and try a comedic geezer lit type before heading down the historic trail. Congrats on the span of Calamity's Corner!

message 71: by Susan (new)

833620 I'm with you. I guess I read 50-60 books a year in between my writing bouts. Welcome

message 70: by Tim (new)

353706 HI all

Congratulations on your recent marriage. I hope you and your husband and your sons and the assortment of cats, rabbits and guinea pigs will all be ecstatically happy!
Reading your introduction really took me back to the days when my three daughters were rabbit and guinea pig mad. I remember at one time we had 11 guinea pigs, 12 rabbits and one cat. It was simply wonderful!

So, Anna, welcome to the group. I have been very busy away on promotions recently to make any comments but now I am back home I will try and contribute more!
