I also enjoyed the Elm Creek Quilt books though I haven't read any of them in a while. I'm sure that I'm behind and new ones have come out!

You might still like the Twilight series. A friend of mine is obsessed with the series and she openly admits the movie was stupid. Personally, I started reading Twilight about a year ago and thought it was completely ridiculous with terrible writing and I didn't finish it but I say to each his own.
wasn't done, hit post button oops, does that mean I can name 10 more LOL
Just a few
Harry potter series
Twilight series
Percy Jackson series
S J Rozan series ( dont like her stand alones)
Alex Kava
Barbara Seranella
James patterson women's murder club
Steffanie Plum series

Just naming the first 10 or so that pop in my mind, I read a lot of series just check my shelves and if you have questions, let me know I love to discuss my books
Sue Graftonset in 80's in california, fun to see that SUE keeps in true to that era, the PI still uses a payphone great solid stories, not much violence
Jeffery DeaverNYPD uses paralyed cop to study crime scenes, very detailed
Harlan Cobenmyron bolitar series, sports agent/PI not much sports lingo though, his sidekicks are funny and he goes to where ever to solve the case
Robert Craismore gritty and violent that Coben, Elvis is PI in California and solves some tough cases, Crais gives Elvis a real personal life that reflects real life and its pain
Karin Slaughterset in Ga and handles tough crimes and murder, very gritty and doesn't always give you the solution you wanted but is the right solution for the book
C.J. Boxpark ranger in Wyoming, gets some strange cases patrolling the land,
Nevada BarrAnna pigeon is a park ranger and travels to different national parks, Readers get an armchair tripto National parks, and Anna gets to solve murder cases, there are about 14 books and we get to see ANNA grow and change too
Lisa Scottolineseries that can be read out of order, takes place in an all female law firm in Philly each book a different lawyer takes central stage
Kathy Reichs forensics set in NC and Canada, this is also loosely based on the BONES show on tv, but the books are later in TEMPE life and quite different
I've read the Uglies series, the midnighters series, the twilight series, and the harry potter series. I'm trying to read the chronicles of narnia. they seem ok.
I've read the series of books Harry Turtledove did from Guns of the South to the last one, Settling Accounts: In at the Death. Plus the Crosstime Traffic series, and now his Atlantis series.I'm trying to read the S.M. Stirlings' Novels of the Change series and Eric Flints' 1632 Ring of Fire series.

I'm a bit behind in replying but I'm fairly new to this group. I have read almost all of the Elm Creek quilt books and I loved them. I've never quilted, but I was fascinated how all of the books focus on the history behind quilts and their hidden messages. I really liked the characters in all the books. I think there's only one I haven't read yet.
I recently started Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. It's so funny!! Think Industrial age with battle dragons. Normally not the kind of thing I would get into on my own, but they were a gift of sorts and I really like them.
John Dunning's Cliff Janeway books are also very good, but I haven't seen anyone list them here yet.
I'm currently reading (and am enjoying)
The Thursday Next Series by Jasper Fforde
The Amelia Peabody Series by Elizabeth Peters
The Charlie Bone Series by Jenny Nimmo (This series at first glance seems like quite the Harry Potter knock off, but it's good enough on its own merit, and each book has been better than the last)
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
The Sisters Grimm series by Michael Buckley
The Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett
The Tortall series (multiples series within the series) by Tamora Pierce
The Ender Series by Orson Scott Card
The Hornblower Series by C.S. Forester
The Oz series by L. Frank Baum
Dark Is Rising series by Susan Cooper
The Dalemark Quartet by Diana Wynne Jones
The Inheritance Trilogy by Christopher Paolini
The Inkheart Trilogy by Cornelia Funke
Tales of the City series by Armistead Maupin
Ok I'm stopping, these are the ones I'm currently reading only, not necessarily my favorites, but most of those have already been mentioned! :)
On a side note... I'm terrified to read the Twilight series. I'm a vampire fiction fan in general (Buffy and True Blood I love!) but I saw the first movie.... and was kinda appalled (the sparkling did it) I actually couldn't help myself and laughed really loud at the sparkling part and all the teenage girls got really quite and the air was heavy with disapproval... (I felt kinda bad) so I can't really bring myself to read it just yet despite all the hype. I think the only way it will happen is if a free copy shows up in the lost and found at work. ^_^
I am sure it has been mentioned, but I always recommend Harry Potter and also His Dark Materials (the Golden compass etc)
Jaime~I haven't read many series either, but I have many in my TBR pile so hopefully I'll get to them soon.I read the Twilight Series and really enjoyed it although Twilight was definitely my favorite book.
I have started Ender's Game which is the first of the Ender Saga by Orson Scott Card and I really enjoy it so far.
When I was younger I read many of V.C. Andrews series starting with the Dollanger(?) Series (Flowers in the Attic).
I loved the Vampire Chronicles but have only made it to Memnoch the Devil so far.
I have also started the Mayfair Witches but have only read The Witching Hour. Lasher and Taltos are in my TBR pile and I can't wait to read them :)
I have ready to read
The Harry Potter Series (I read the first one years ago so I want to go back and reread it and then read the rest of them)
The Dark Tower Series
Odd Thomas Series
The Chronicles of Narnia ( I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian years ago but want to reread them and then read the rest.)
I also want to read the Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris after reading all the great reviews in here. I have the first book! :)
Other series I've liked but not seen listed here:
Earth's Children series (Clan of the Cave Bear, Valley of the Horses, etc.) by Jean M. Auel
Richard Jury series by Martha Grimes (mysteries set in the 1980s in England).
My favorite series are:Sally Lockhart Trilogy by Philip Pullman (totally underrated in my opinion, more people should read this!)
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
Harry Potter series (of course)
Donna.
It's nice to know I am not the only one who has her book series listed on excel. I color coordinate mine. I have all the books in a particular series listed in one column. I color each one I have read and also color those I own but haven't read yet. I have so many series, I probably couldn't read them all in a life time!
I have a very very big Excel spread sheet with the names of all the series that I am reading or want to read.I mark the next book to be read in one column. If I've read the most current book, I make a note to check for new books.
I just did a quick scan - including the series that sound interesting but that I haven't read, I have about 225 series on my spread sheet.
Mysteries with a woman antagonist - most are very light, easy reads
Meg Lanslow series - Donna Andrews
Sophie Metropolis series -
Goldie Schutz series - Diane Davidson
Kate Connor, Vampire Hunter - Julie Kenner
V I Warshawsky - Sara Paretsky
Mystery series based in 18 - 20 century
Lady Victoria series (and Molly Murphy series) - Rhys Bowen
Amelia Peabody series - Elizabeth Peters
Sarah Woolson series - Shirley Tallman
Some of my other favorites:
Decker/Lazarus series - Faye Kellerman
Flower series - Lauren Willig
Maisie Dobbs series - Jacqueline Winspear
Acrane society - Amanda Quick
Camel Club series - David Balducci
Simply .. series - Mary Balogh
Eliza wrote: "I'm in love with Phillipa Gregory's books about the Tudors. I'm not sure if it qualifies as a "series," but each book is about a different historical figure in the true-life soap opera of Henry VI..."If you liked them, you'd like Philippa Gregory's books.
Her real name is Eleanor Hibbert, and she also writes as Victoria Holt.
She has a series of books that starts with early English History and goes up to the Victorian age. She also has a trilogy about Isabella of Spain, one about Catherine de Medici, and I think one about Lucretia Borzia.
Easy reads, not always historically accurate, but I still enjoyed them.

I loved the trilogy.
Haven't liked her other books as much.
I jumped into the Southern Vampire books by Harris a few weeks ago... Im knee deep in them and love them!
I can definitely see your point Fiona - and just so you don't have to worry - My husband's series is exactly 6 no more no less. He wanted to write the whole one before publishing the first - it was "designed" just like Potter and there is nothing that anyone (i.e. publisher) will be able to do to get more than that written - it would ruin all the planning that he did to "wrap it all up" in a particular way.
Wife of GR author: Michael J. Sullivan | The Crown Conspiracy (10/08) | Avempartha (04/09)
Yes and no. I'm always a bit iffy about series thanks to Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series that turned into the biggest waste of time. And then he went and died before completing the last book! Well, if he hadn't overblown everything like he did he might have finished it.I've enjoyed Harry Potter and any series Diana Wynne Jones comes out with. (Howl and Chrestomanci) although the series she writes you don't always have to read them in published or even chronological order.
I don't mind trilogies I guess but sometimes starting a book that is a long series - I'm not sure. I don't mind I suppose if I know there's going to be an end, or if it is an on-going kinda series like crime novels - where the books are self-contained.
If an author can tell me "This IS going to be a trilogy" then I'm find because I think that he's already planned the story out etc. What I don't want is to be 5 books in, no end in sight and I'm bored.
HP was very obviously planned from book one to book 7.
The other series I have enjoyed a lot is The Otori series. Though I think that originally started as one book - but turned into a trilogy and then she wrote two others as well - and as far as I know now that's it. She bookended the trilogies with two extra books. They were REALLY good and the trilogy weren't big long fat books. I admit that I may find it hard to pick up a series if the books are very long.
So, after this long winded, meandering reply... I'd say I do read series, I have nothing against them. But I'm cautious of them.
As the wife of an author who writes series - I'm glad to see so many people like them. I personally think that series are great. My favorites:
1 - Riyria Revelations
2 - Harry Potter
3 - C.S. Lewis
4 - LOTR
Wife of GR author: Michael J. Sullivan | The Crown Conspiracy (10/08) | Avempartha (04/09)
There are plenty of series' that I love;
All Tortall series' by Tamora Pierce
Legendsong and Obernewtyn by Isobelle Carmody
Harry Potter by J.K Rowling
Anne by L.M Montgomery
Tomorrow Series by John Marsden
Lord of the Rings (plus the Hobbit) by Tolkein
I'm really liking the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon although I have only read one so far.
Magicians' Guild Series - Trudi Canavan
Ancient Future - Traci Harding,
just to name a few.
I have a list on bookreads of 'next-in-series-to-read' for books that the author hasn't finished writing or that are, obviously, the next in the series. Just to make sure I don't forget about them.
1) Repairman Jack series from F. Paul Wilson
2) Benjamin January series from Barbra Hambly
3) Nameless Detective from Bill Pronzini
4) Dresden series from Jim Butcher
5) Reacher by Lee Child
6) Alphabet series from Sue Grafton
7) Dave Robicheax series from James L. Burke
8) Shardlake by C.J. Sansom
9) Sharon McCone by Marcia Muller
10) Lew Archer by Ross MacDonald
11) Mary Russell by Laurie King
12) Elvis Cole by Robert Crais
13) Myron Bolitar by Harlan Coben
14) Fletch series by Gregory McDonald
15) Deborah Knott by Margaret Maron
16) Sid Halley by Dick Francis
17) Sharpe by Bernard Cornwell
18) Dillon by Jack Higgins
At the moment there are only two series that I am willing to buy and read:(1) The Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh,
(2) The Hollows series by Kim Harrison.
I tried Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series, but I quit halfway through the second book. Oddly enough I lost all interest in the characters.
About six months ago I promised a friend I'd check out the Chicago Stars series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, but so far I have only read the first two books... and the 4th I think. The other ones just didn't sound interesting enough to make me read them. Harsh, I know, but eh...
Er...depends. If I bought one book in paperback or hardcover, then the whole series has to be in paperback or hardcover since I'm OCD XD. But sometimes I have a mix...like for Artemis Fowl and Pendragon, I didn't get hardcover until book 5.
Most of the stuffs I read are YA though ^^.
Wow Kiwi, you really do like series. Do you get the hardbacks when they come out or wait for the paperbacks?
I LOVE series.
Here are some of my favorites:
Okay, BESIDES the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer...
1. Alex Rider by Anthony Horowitz (Action/Adventure) - 7 Vol. ongoing
2. Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot (Teen Romance) - 10 main volumes, 3 half volumes, 3 special volumes complete
3. The Mediator by Meg Cabot (Fantasy Teen Romance)- 6 Vol. Complete
4. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke (Fantasy)- 3 Vol. Complete
5. Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (Science Fiction/Fantasy) - 6 Vol. ongoing
6. Young Heroes Series by Jane Yolen (Greek Fantasy) - 4 Vol. Complete

8. Maximum Ride by Jame Patterson (Adventure/Fantasy) - 4 Vol. ongoing
9. Diamond Brothers by Anthony Horowitz (Mystery/Adventure) - 4 Vol. ongoing (?)
10. Bras & Broomsticks by Sarah Mlynowski (Fantasy/Romance) - 4 Vol. ongoing
11. Once Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris (Fantasy/Romance) - 3 Vol. Complete (?)
I just tried to read the Southern Vampire Series.
But found that i just could not give one damn about the characters. I quit after the first book.
I loved Twilight and Harry Potter.
Has anyone read Jennifer Lauck? I think that is how you spell her last name. A series of memoires. I loved them.
Sandra Worth has a Richard III series The Rose of York. They are 3 short books about Richard's life and rule of England. It's pretty historically accurate, too, which is always a bonus with these types of books.
Sarah, there is no order to Carl Hiaasen's books. I read them all out of order of publication date, and I didn't have any issues.
It's nice to see that I'm far from alone in my adoration of series books! LoL...those I read fairly faithfully:Kelley Armstrong: Women of the Other World
Tim Cockey: Hitchcock Sewell
Catherine Coulter: FBI (Sherlock & Savage)
John Dunning: The Bookman (Cliff Janeway)
J.Evanovich: Stephanie Plum
Jasper Fforde: Thursday Next
Vince Flynn: Mitch Rapp
Charlaine Harris : Southern Vampire
Virginia Lanier (RIP): Bloodhound
Sharyn McCrumb: Appalachian Ballads
D.Preston/L. Child: Pendergast
Ann Ross: Miss Julia
Karin Slaughter: Grant County
oh, I guess that's *more* than 10, isn't it? And, honestly, I could add about a dozen more! I luv a series where I can "befriend" the characters, and I get saddened when an author ends one on me. (LoL; I obviously need a REAL life, with REAL friends...)
I totally forgot I'm reading the Vampire Hunter D novels. I'm way behind though. 11 or 12 just came out and I'm only up to 5.
Leslie, I have been meaning to start the Wheel of Time series! The first one is own my bookshelf at home. Where I live for this year and home don't happen to be on the same continent, but I'm saving that book for when I really have time to pay attention to it (i.e. when I'm not at univeristy!).
Celeste-
I've been listening to the Odd Thomas series in the car, too. The narrator's pretty good! I'm up to the last installment (Odd Hours).
I listened to Aunt Dimity's Death, too, and really liked it. Unfortunately the library doesn't have the next book in audio, and Atherton hasn't made it to the top of my TBR lists. I really need to keep her in mind as easy, fun reading (sometimes I really need that!)
Okay just 10 seies. I think I can do that. I'll just list the first 10 that comes to mind.
1. Odd Thomas by Dean Knootz. Because I'm listening to it in my car now and loving every minute of it. These books could become another obsession, like say Harry Potter, or Twilight for me.
2. The Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde
3. The Valentin St. Cyr mysteries by David Fulmer. Starting with Chasing the Devil's Tail.
4. The Ranger's Appentice series by John Flanagan
5. Vampirates series by Jasper Somper
6. The Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry
7. The Sister's Grimm series by Michael Buckley
8. Maximum Ride series by James Patterson
9. The Sally Lockheart mystery series by Philip Pullman
10. The Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers
11. The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowlings
12. The Aunt Dimity series by Nancy Atherton
13. The China Bayles mysteries by Susan Wittig Albert
Sorry, I guess I couldn't keep it to 10 and yet I did not add them all on.
I am reading "The Wheel of Time" series by Robert Jordan. It isn't something I would usually read, but my boyfriend got me into it and we are reading them together. It is quite a committment (I think the series has 12 books or so, and they are each upwards of 800 pages) but the stories are so good and captivating, that I forget how long they are. Jordan does a great job of creating an entirely new and intricately described world that I just find myself amazed at all the detail he included.
i'm enjoying his dark materials series by phillip pullman, although i'm waiting on the 3rdi was really into the scarpetta series at first, but it seems that the newer books are more about money and government that solving the crime.
as for the twilight series, i loved twilight, but cannot get into new moon. we'll see.
the stephanie plum series is really not my style at all, but they are just too funny. how can you not laugh at them?
Scarpetta serie, and not really a serie but the Poirot and Miss Marple 'serie'.
The serie that Jean M auel wrote.
I am currently rotating through (and enjoying) many series including:The Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz (My Favorite series)
The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
The Jack Daniels series by J.A. Konrath (My Second Favorite series)
The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan
The Xanth series by Piers Anthony (Very long series going back to my childhood and still coming out)
and lastly I have finished
The Dark Tower series by Stepehn King
I recommend them all.
I am also a lover of Guy Gavriel Kay's books. I have all of them on my shelf. I actually have been trying to get around to reading the Fionavar Tapestry trilogy again. It's one of my favorites. The only ones I didn't enjoy as much was the Sarantine Mosiac series.
The Lions of al-Rassan is one of my favorite books. I swear I'm in love with the two main guy characters! I re-read Tigana recently and it's another great one. I remember the rest of them as being really good also, but it's probably been over 10 years since I've read a lot of them.
