Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (Jim_formerly_Photojim) | 5294 comments I know I haven't kept this updated and I'm sorry. The last week or so was pretty 'hairy scary' round these parts. But we all made it through healthy, wealthy, and maybe a bit wiser. In any event, on to the list!

September 10/10 complete.

1. "Susie sells sea shells by the sea shore." This brings me to a question. Do you think the word lisp is so hard to say as a cruel joke of some sort? And finally the man with the coolest 'S' name ever has to be Sisyphus. Wish he would have been the hero in my 'S' book. Star Island by Carl Hiaasen (9/11)

2. The only guarantee when you are born is that someday you will die. How long of a time between those two events and what path you will follow is largely a matter of luck. So my best wish for you on your birthday is , "Good luck". Reunion in Death by J.D. Robb (9/1) actually on a couple people's September shelves.

3. I just love Boston. The Big Apple. Home of the Yankees. Broadway. The United Nations. All of these things in a city that... What's that? That's New York? Are you sure? Then what's in Boston? A bar where they filmed Cheers? I just love Boston. The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen (9/5)

4. Avast ye mateys! If ye' be lookin' fer a book full o' sailing ships, some murder, some plunder, and more rape than you can shake a stick at, I've got one for ye' - A Pirate's Love by Johanna Lindsey (9/15)

5. What? She's going into labor? But I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies! Oh, they's just goin' to work. Why didn't you say that to begin with? Portrait in Death by J.D. Robb (9/15) (a significant character is a bartender and another is a uniformed police officer)

6. Yo soy perdedor. Not really but it's a good song. Finding Perfect by Susan Mallery (9/17) Raoul Moreno is latino.

7. In July of 1986 in the back of the reference section. God how I love a library. Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione (9/4)

8. What is a classic? It's a term that doesn't always relate well. A classic to one is old and outdated to others. Something happening now could be classic. For example, my son was getting up from dinner the other day. He unwittingly stepped on the dog. The dog cried out, my son screamed, dropped and broke his plate, knocked over a glass of water, stumbled over and knocked over a light, ripped a page out of a school book, and scattered homework everywhere. His path of destruction was approximately 10' x 12'. My oldest son just said, "Well, that was classic." I'd have to agree. - Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare (9/20)

9. In honor of Agatha Christie I'll read a murder mystery. We only ever see Miss Jane Marple as an older woman who solves murders. I wonder what she was like as a younger woman. I bet she was just like Eve Dallas. Reunion in Death by J.D. Robb (9/1)

10. Choosy mothers choose Jiff. I don't know if Jess is a mother or if she chooses Jiff. But I do know that this month she chose for me Morrigan's Cross by Nora Roberts (9/9)

Debbie (onyx95) | 2757 comments Congrats Jim :)

√10. Reader's Choice: Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2) by Richelle Mead ***** 9/22

READ

Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) by Charlaine Harris For almost the entire book I kept thinking this was my favorite Sookie book of the series. At least, I felt that way until the end. The book just ended so abruptly and their just was not enough of the Eric we know and love in it. Really, it seemed like there wasn't a lot of vampires in general. Don't get me wrong the vampires were there, but the book didn't center on them like they usually do.

Again The Magic by Lisa Kleypas I really enjoyed this book. However, I struggle with people making their lives more difficult by hiding a truth. I know it happens a lot in romance novels. Let's face it, it wouldn't be much of a story if boy meets girl, girl jumps in bed with boy...the end. But, when the lead hides her feelings or an illness or whatever to protect the other person I find myself yelling at the book...TELL HIM OR HER. Geesh! People really find ways to mess up their lives. I just don't like when the story depends on playing games to build the suspese or storyline.

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater The story of Jack and Grace is a very sweet one. However, that's about the best thing I can say about this book. It was so long and drawn out. I seriously wanted to put the book down and walk away a million times. It was almost torturous.

Three To Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, #3) by Janet Evanovich I think this is my favorite of the Stephanie Plum series. The other ones I have been iffy on. This one actually made me chuckle and I didn't spend the whole book trying to rush to the end.

I am really starting to warm up to Stephanie. The first two books I found her annoying, but liked most of the other characters, so decided to give the series a shot. Glad I did. I think she is finally coming into her own. The tension between Morelli and Stephanie is starting to wear a little thin, though. Geesh, how long many books will it take for them to quit playing games? Will definitely try #4.

Undead and Unpopular (Undead, #5) by MaryJanice Davidson I just love these books. They are the easiest quickie reads and they make me laugh out loud. I love how Sinclair kept referring to the baby jon as "the infant". For a second, my mind wondered to "uh oh, that's not good. Betsy was kind of feeling down about not being able to have kids and here Sinclair isn't a fan of kids", but then I remembered it was a Queen Betsy book and I'm pretty sure this won't be any deep issue later. Let's face it, in Betsy's world she can deal with anything. Anything but wearing last years strappy sandals, that is.

Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2) by Richelle Mead
I really love this series. I think it's a great series for young adults to sink their teeth into (pun intended).

I think Rose is not only a good strong heroine, but she is an honest one. She isn't perfect, she's flawed and not really afraid to admit it.

Dimitri is sexy as heck and always trying to do the right thing. I love that he, too is an honest character. He tries to do the right thing, yet sometimes gives in and does what feels good instead.

I can't wait to read the next book.

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell This is a re-read for me. I love this book! It's a classic, yet never seems to go out of style.

Blow Me Down by Katie MacAlister This book was odd for me. I was really worried that it was going to be outside my realm of too farfetched for even me to believe. Which is saying something since I love paranormal. I stuck with it and glad I did.

I loved the nerdy, computer geek with the heart of a fighter in him. Corbin was too cute and very sweet!

Amy was sarcastic and a control freak, but I learned to really like her. I loved the banter between between her and some of the characters (especially her daughter).
