October Nominating Guide

**First 12 nominations will be up for a vote.

** Please post title AND author, no other info needed.

** NO need for seconding or voting at this point. Once the nominations are in I'll create a poll for voting.

** If you nominate a book and it wins YOU will need to lead the discussion or make arrangements for someone else to do that. PLEASE keep that in mind when you nominate a book and remember this is for October.

** Top two vote getters will be our books for Oct.

** Authors may not nominate their own books.

Marialyce I nominate Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill. It is a story about a young girl kidnapped from Africa and sold into slavery. It carries her struggles through being a slave, the Revolutionary War, and her further struggles to become a person recognized as a human being. The book spans sixty years.

Regine I nominate The Book of Night Women by Marlon James. It also deals with slavery.

Adrienne (kalanna) | 175 comments Hey Marialyce and everyone, Someone Knows My Name was published in Canada as The Book of Negroes. Not sure why the title change, but I just picked up that book! In 2009, it won a national yearly radio contest we have called Canada Reads. Super excited that that book got nominated!
