I'll keep a list of accepted nominations in the first comment so that people can easily see what has been nominated so far.
Just as a question will we be doing any sort of themes for these or just any science fiction/fantasy YA?
Michelle wrote: "Just as a question will we be doing any sort of themes for these or just any science fiction/fantasy YA?"There will be times when we have themed nominations or ask for nominations in a particular sub-genre, but for September any ya sci-fi/fantasy will do.
Edit: I'm not sure if The Black Prism will count as YA, especially since we won't know the full content of it for a month. Any opinion on that from yall?

Thanks Jenny.
As for The Black Prism, it sounds really interesting but I don't see anything that would classify it as YA - reviews, shelves, anything on the author's page, etc.

Also, the fact that it is only coming out in August will discourage most people from buying it as I know a few of us don't buy hardback books in general and it might be difficult for the library bums to find it. If it turns out to be YA maybe in a few more months so people have time to acquire the book. I've heard a lot of great things about Brent Weeks.
Yeah, I think it probably doesn't fit. If we find out after its release that it does, we can revisit that option then.I am excited about these nominations so far. :x

My guess, based on The Night Angel trilogy, is that Black Prism will be very much not YA.
I'm going to nominate The Black Tattoo by Sam Enthoven
Library bums - Those who actively stalk books at their local libraries. Its not a bad thing. I am from time to time a library bum myself although I like to own my books so mostly its buying or trading. I won't pay for hardback though.
I try to avoid the library whenever possible. I have the habit of checking out more books than I can read in the time I'm given to read them, so I always end up paying late fines because I forget to renew them. I stick to buying through my local used bookstore. If I order a book through them, then I get it half off. And I can always trade stuff in for credit, so I can save money that way too.
I need to make better use of the library and go there for books that look interesting but not awesome. We have really nice libraries here, and they waive late fees on the last Wednesday of every month so I wouldn't have to worry about that if I forget to renew it. I just need to get into the habit.

They're like elephants...they never forget.
I have another suggestion: Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. The second book comes out in October, I believe, so September would be a good month to read it in. :3
My library never forgets a late fee. They've sent me to a collection agency over $8. Sorry I didn't pay it, I just left for college and stopping by the library to pay a fine wasn't on the top of my list.
Seriously? Those book-nazis! Do they charge you more for not paying within a certain amount of time?
They don't charge more but they send you to the collection agency after 6 months regardless of how much the fine is. Apparently Utah doesn't distribute a lot of funds to the library system so they have to gather it themselves.
Jeez. That's harsh. Even though my library doesn't forget, at least they leave you alone so that you can pay when you're ready to pay.
Yeahhh. I usually pay my fees off ASAP. Just to get it done with. I haven't heard of them waiving any fees. At my college I wasn't charged a late fee, but that was because the day my movie was due they closed early, so they didn't hold it against me.
I don't mind library fees so much - but, then, I'm pretty careful about trying not to get any. But I figure if the fees prompt people to return their books on time, then it's a good thing - especially since someone else may be waiting for those books to be returned. Plus, libraries don't get much of a budget, so they need to make up their losses however they can. They can't just replace every book someone walks away with - again, hurting not only the library, but anyone who might be waiting on those books.
Waiting... and waiting... and waiting...
Haha @ Emi. These all look really good. I have had Dust of 100 Dogs on my shelf for a while now and I just finished Bloody Jack and thought it was a riot. I'm hungering for another adventure with pirates! Arrrrgh!
I finished the audiobook of Bloody Jack and absolutely loved it as well! I was really surprised. Usually I'm not into pirate literature (I had a bad experience with a book I picked up at a used book store. I thought it was a YA pirate novel, but it turned out to be a historical romance novel. It was a bit of a shock when the main characters started making out with like 10 guys...) but Bloody Jack was a ton of fun. I'm trying to hunt down the other books now, but the bookstores in my area don't seem to have them, and the library system is missing book 2. Le cry. But The Dust of 100 Dogs looks like a pretty good substitute while I wait to find the next Bloody Jack book. *adds to list of stuff to read* Tell me how it is when you get around to reading it! ARRRRRRGH! *waves a parrot around and pretends to have a wooden leg*
Sarah wrote: "Keeping The Hunger Games series going, I nominate Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins."Ohhh that's a good idea! I like to read a series all at once. As in I read all the books in the series that are available, instead of reading the first book, wait a few months, then continue it. I'm pretty sure that's how everyone is. It's just natural while your mind is in the world of that particular story.
I'm like that, once I start a series, I have to continue! I'm waiting for Linger to arrive, which is driving me nuts! Is it me or are character names in novels getting weirder? Am just reading Shadowland (the immortals) which is better than bluemoon (Book 2). I am looking forward to a book due out in a month or two--Titled: Finding Sky by Joss Stirling.
If you have yet to make a nomination for September, today is your last chance to get one in before the poll goes up!
I'm on the wait list for Catching Fire. The ridiculously long astronomical wait list. Yay for library bums!
I promised my hubby-to-be that I would cut down on my book purchases. It. is. so. hard. But the library helps. :)
Yeahhh. My college's library has the Hunger Games books, and I go back a week early to make up a couple exams, so I'll request both a week before I actually go back, so it shouldn't be an issue?
I get books from the high school library I work at. (the school not the library), if not I try half price bookstores. My library is the last resort. It was nice when i had the homebound service. They drop off my books for me but now my temporary membership is up.
Woah, that sounds nice! Getting books delivered too you. What kind of service is this? It seems strange that high school does this... I had enough trouble getting my report card delivered too me....
hehehehe, I think you misunderstand, I got books delivered to me from my public library. The homebound book service is for people who are a) seniors or b) disabled and I don't drive, I have a visual impairment. Though I live like three blocks from my public library, I have a hard time getting to the library in bad weather. I live on my own so no one can drive me and it seems silly to take a taxi when you live three blocks away.
Ahhhh. You just confused me when you said the High School Library. That definitely is handy. So you didn't continue your membership when it ended?
they discontinued it. When I talked to the woman who ran it I said I couldn't get to the library in bad weather. I incorperated this to mean, thunderstorms, snowstorms, freezing cold and blazing hot. They took it to mean just during the winter. I work at a high school during the school year. So I will try to get books from there first.
