D.G. | 3768 comments I've noticed that there are a lot of lists related to covers...so I thought we should do a Covers Challenge!

Read 1 book with a cover that matches the description below. There will be 3 groups:

People in Covers
Lonely Chick
Lonesome Dude
Kissing/Doing It
Body Parts (Eyes, hands, feet, lips, etc. - no faces or more than half the body)

Other than People
Animal Kingdom (Mammals, insects, fish, etc.)
Natural World (Trees, flowers, sea, clouds, etc.)
Structures (Buildings, houses, street, etc.)
Objects (Purses, cars, etc.)
Just Type (words with minimal design elements)

Covers According to You
Beautiful
Ugly
Your Favorite Color

*You can decide to do all 1, 2 or all 3 groups. When you join, you must post how many you’ll read.

* You can post/change your selections as you go.

* Start Date: July 15th, 2010

*Duration: 1, 3 or 6 months – When you join, you decide how long it will take you to finish. Once you pick, you cannot change it.

*Covers in the ‘Other’ category can only include people if they are very small part of the design.

* Only one (1) re-read allowed.

*Let's start all together, but anybody is welcome to join us at any time. Late comers will have to finish by January 2011 the latest.

*Also let me know here, if you need help with any recommendations. Either or any of the other members will be happy to help.

*If you need any suggestions, feel free to check the following lists:
http://www.goodreads.com/search/searc...

*See examples of covers for each category in the next post.

You pick how many groups you'd like to do - 1, 2 or all 3. Then you have to read a book that matches all the categories in each group.

So for instance, let's say you pick People and According to you. Then you'll have to read a book with a cover that matches:

Lonely Chick
Lonesome Dude
Kissing/Doing It
Body Parts (Eyes, hands, feet, etc. - no faces)

Covers According to You
Beautiful
Ugly
Your Favorite Color

Ann aka Iftcan (Iftcan) ye GODS but I'm totally OCD about reading. I'm in. I think I'll be doing all 3, and taking 6 months, since I'm not sure how well my other challenge reads will fit with this. And, since I'm ALSO thinking about the "biggie" challenge that Yz just posted, well, I'm actually starting to think I might be a tiny bit NUTS. :oP

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) I am going to give it ago, I am going to do all 3 catergories in 6 months. Will post my list once I have sorted through my book pile!

Danielle (Smiley1881) I'm going to play too. Sounds like fun and I'm always judging books by their cover even though I know better. I'm going to do all 3 categories in six months.

D.G. | 3768 comments I figured that 6 months would be good enough because a lot of this categories would match other challenges. :)

So far the one I'm having the most trouble is 'Structures'...there aren't that many books with streets and houses. :)

BTW...if you need any suggestions, feel free to check out:

There are lists there for all the categories and even more!

message 38: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (Iftcan) Right above the box you type your comment in is a green comment that says "ADD BOOK/AUTHOR" click on this, entire the book title and let it search. At the bottom of that little cartouche you will see a further offering that is ADD: LINK COVER and there are little circles for you to choose which one. The LINK is the one that just puts in the title of the book so that its clickable. The COVER selection is what shows the cover of the book. If your cover doesn't match the cover that they are showing, click on the itty bitty link "other covers" and that will show you a selection of different covers.

Sargasso of Space (Vintage Ace SF, F-279) by Andre Norton Sargasso of Space (Solar Queen Series, Book 1) by Andre Norton Sargasso of Space (Ace SF, 74981) by Andre Norton These will give you an idea. There are other editions of this book, but if none of the GR Librarians has a copy, then they are shown as Sargasso of Space by Andre Norton

I selected this particular book because I KNEW that there were 8 different editions of the book. I am a bit of a fan of Andre Norton. Ok, that's kind of an understatement. (Shrugging) What can I say--just because I have one wall that's floor to ceiling bookcases and filled with her books. I also have multiple copies of many of her books, and I keep meaning to check to make sure that I don't have any covers that aren't shown here. :o)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 140 comments FlibBityFLooB wrote: "Do we have to wait until August 10th to start, or did you mean July 10th? :)"

I think August '10 means August 2010 so I would guess August 1st is the start date. Midnight in your time zone I am guessing? :)

As for the end date that would be July 31st, 2011 at 11:59. You can correct me if I am wrong. :)

Mary: Harry Dresden's Love Slave (HarryDresdensLoveSlave) | 788 comments Well I figured it out and just copy/pasted. I had to redo it a couple of times to get it to not take up a whole screen and be easy to read. Looks good now.

Mary: Harry Dresden's Love Slave (HarryDresdensLoveSlave) | 788 comments so do we just update our lists as we read? I'm assuming that since this is just for fun we can change a book if we come to a DNF or just get in the mood for something different right?

Alona | 2 comments Ok. I am looking into doing this challenge... one bit of hesitation, can I post something that I have read before that fits the category? I mean, I am committing to rereading that book so does that count? If yes, then I am in! 12 books 6 months(hoping less, lol)

Mary: Harry Dresden's Love Slave (HarryDresdensLoveSlave) | 788 comments Having done challenges with DG hosting before-I'm going to say that rereads don't count. But then those other challenges were on PBS where we played for credits. So she may not be as strict for a just for fun challenge.

message 50: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 3768 comments We can start earlier if you guys want...what about July 15th? So anybody that starts on the 15th and chooses 6 months, will have until January 14th, 2010 to finish.

Yes, you can change your lists, Mary...that's part of the fun for me!

I almost never re-read Alona but we can always do one re-read (no more than that though...it's good to work on the TBR!)
