San Diego Comic Con is coming up soon (July 22-25th). Who's going? What are you looking forward to seeing/hearing there? What do you think the big announcements will be for tv/movies/books/comics?
I'll be there from the Wednesday preview night through Sunday. There's a 75% chance you can find me at the Penguin booth (#1117) where I'll be signing books and children. I will use permanent marker. I'd love for you to stop by and say hi so I can put some faces to the names I see posting in the group. Also, if anyone is interested, I'll also be part of this panel:
Thursday, July 22, 3:00-4:00
Kiss them or Kill them? Conflict Management for the Creatures among us. Room 25ABC
Urban fantasy and paranormal romance authors discuss when to kill the monster, date the monster... or both and in what order. Authors include: J. F. Lewis (ReVamped), Maria Lima (Blood Line series), Adrian Phoenix (The Maker’s Song series), Kat Richardson (The Greywalker novels), Diana Rowland (Kara Gillian--Detective and Demon Summoner series), Samantha Sommersby (The Forbidden Series), Anton Strout (the Simon Canderous urban fantasy series), Linda Thomas-Sundstrom (Wolf Moons series), and Rob Thurman (Author of The Cal Leandros Novels and The Trickster Novels).Moderated by Maryelizabeth Hart of Mysterious Galaxy.
Hope to see you there!
You Californians with your star-studded conventions. The best we get in DC is one-time sci-fi authorNewt Gingrich giving a speech on the commerce clause.

Excellent, Veronica. Glad to see the RiffTrax'ers are there too... will try to catch it, although frankly it's taking every ounce of my concentration right now to sift through all the cool things going on create a hierarchy of coolocity to determine what the heck I'm going to be able to realistically get to.
Anton wrote: "it's taking every ounce of my concentration right now to sift through all the cool things going on"I've never been, but it sounds like there's plenty to do. Will I spend most of my time in lines, or can you just walk into most panels?

Will I spend most of my..."I believe all panels are on a first come first serve basis as individual ticketing of 125,000 people (outside of needing a badge to just BE at SDCC) would be chaos. I just spent three hours working out my events I want to go to schedule around events I'm paneling/signing as well as my time at the Penguin booth, and just looking at it, I'm already exhausted. hehe.
I'm going! I still need to get a handle on the schedule and figure out what to prioritize among all the geek goodies.
My son and I are going (at least Thursday thru Saturday). We're volunteering for the first time. Any suggestions? Anyone using Google Latitude to meet up?
Bruce wrote: "My son and I are going (at least Thursday thru Saturday). We're volunteering for the first time. Any suggestions? I'll turn mine on for the show. I'm Barry O'Neil, or aldenoneil at gmail.com.
I'm also going to be at Comicon. Hope to see many panels, but trying to schedule them it quote a bit of work. I' m using foursquare so and Twitter, that may be tool to use to meet up. Will definitely be at the Guild panel.
And Sean, for east cost cons, they just had Shoreleave in Baltimore last week. Starbuck and Adama (BSG) were featured guests.
@osiramon
I'll be there for the first time with my brother. I'm looking forward to anything Whedon, Chuck, Star Wars, Harry Potter, or Lost.

I feel a little exposed now, having put that Latitude info out there. On the other hand, it feels freeing. I'm tempted to throw out my home address and the names of my family members.Sounds good, Bruce. Look forward to meeting any and all S&L readers at the show.
EDIT: I guess I didn't realize your location only shows up for your contacts. That's nice.

Tom, does your phone support Google Maps and Latitude? Feel free to join Barry and I at some point.
Thinking about this more, won't Latitude just tell people I'm in the convention center, rather than where I am in the convention center? We need the Google Latitude + Longitude upgrade. Ba-dum.I'm probably going to wear a signal beacon attached to my head so that anyone who wants to can find me. I'll be the guy being shouted at.

Yes, but it will probably give your location to within 10' (3 meters) so that might be enough to find you.

Uh oh! Turns out many people in this thread are going to burn in hellfire.
Westboro Baptist Church -- the people who protest military funerals because they think the army is full of evul homer-sexuals -- has decided that comic book fans are really worshipping Batman and Superman as gods, and so they will be protesting outside Comic Con.
Sadly, this is not an Onion article. The money quote:
The destruction of this nation is imminent – so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry.
