Yikes! Gone.

Spoiler."

Now this is a different type of problem. In my opinion. Yes, it is a spoiler. BUT it has been taken or skipped 25,000 times during it's four year lifetime and only three people seem to have taken a enough of a dislike to it to flag it. It isn't on the Never-Ending Book Quiz so it will only be presented to Wuthering Heights or Emily Bronte fans (I've just added the necessary links).

I think I will leave it.

Anna Matsuyama (AnnaMatsuyama) | 71 comments This one has been flagged http://www.goodreads.com/trivia/show/... not only its not linked to any book but also question is in Spanish(?)

I assume that trivia question must be in English, right?

Banjomike | 4981 comments Anna wrote: "I assume that trivia question must be in English, right?"

No, not really.

I've added the book mainly because I don't know enough Spanish to ask the setter to do it!

EDIT: she seems to speak English in her other questions so I will message her.

EDIT 2: she has messaging turned off.

De-flagged.

lafon حمزة نوفل (lafon) | 3534 comments How do you de-flag a trivia question?

Banjomike | 4981 comments lafon حمزة wrote: "How do you de-flag a trivia question?"

Browse, Review flagged questions, pick the question, answer it!, details, "fix it, mark it as correct, or delete it, "

Beth (BethJustBeth) | 1580 comments It's an acquired skill, to be sure. But Banjomike has it down pat...and is #3 on the high scores. :) I can't get more than about 6 right in a row.

Banjomike | 4981 comments Beth wrote: "and is #3 on the high scores"

That was in the days when I could sit down and answer trivia for HOURS on end. Can't do that anymore. Not entirely sure why I did it in the first place. Also trivia is not "closed book". On the WWW it cannot be closed book. Also, monitoring 15,000 quizzes helps. And having a vast library of ebooks.

Because it's FUN!!

lafon حمزة نوفل (lafon) | 3534 comments Oh dear Banjo. You've gotten me hooked. :/

What do we about trivia like this?

message 164: by Banjomike (last edited Sep 07, 2012 03:29PM) (new)

Banjomike | 4981 comments Well, the question has been set by a Goodreads author so there is a good chance that the question concerns one of his own books.
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

His problem is that he doesn't seem to know that a question should only have one answer. So I would remove it from the never ending quiz, flag it as wrong, and message him. In that order. If you flag it first hiding it will unflag it.

The alternative would be to research his books on the WWW and determine the correct one. But that should be HIS job.

EDIT:
the book is "Two Hearts on a Grand Precious Adventure"

The Princess of Chocolate and the Prince of Yogurt have an adventure to find the beginning of the ocean.

lafon حمزة نوفل (lafon) | 3534 comments OK, thanks Banjo. Do you mind if I give my professor your name if when my assignments are late?

lol...we have way too much fun in here.

Heather (creaturefromthesea) This is a really big spoiler for the entire series. I would delete it myself, but the user who added it was belligerent with me and resorted to name calling over it. I have reported and blocked them, but I'm still afraid of being come after if I am the one to delete it.

You realize there's no way for the user to know who deleted it, and they'll probably assume it was you, right?

In any case, huge spoiler is now gone.

Emily O (ReadingWhileFemale) | 9 comments Spoiler. The correct answer gives away a very major plot point that is only revealed in the last chapter of the book. I've taken it off the endless quiz.
http://www.goodreads.com/trivia/detai...

Emily O (ReadingWhileFemale) | 9 comments This one has an incorrect answer. This has been addressed before, but the writer of the question clarified by saying that the answer refers to the end of the book. Even if that is the case, it is still incorrect. Jonas gives him memories of snow and cold, but not the pleasant sledding memory.

Banjomike | 4981 comments #169, deleted the major spoiler.

#170, the setter has been ignoring the comments about this error for 18 months. That is long enough. Deleted.

Lobstergirl | 3489 comments In my opinion all of this user's questions except the last one should be deleted.

Agreed. Gone, except last one.

lafon حمزة نوفل (lafon) | 3534 comments Goddammit, and I was going to be reading that soon. Thrice damned spoilers! Oh well, gone.

Banjomike | 4981 comments 178, 179, 180 gone.

Lobstergirl | 3489 comments Spoiler.

http://www.goodreads.com/trivia/detai...

(This is a spoiler not because we don't know whether or not she dies, we learn that fairly early on, but the way she dies is a surprise.)

Got 182.

message 184: by C. (new)

C. (Riedel) http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

A game was started (by someone I've contacted who apparently can't remove it). It is very much off-topic of the book it's associated with and without a cap, would keep on going.

I also seem unable to remove myself from the thread being in my update window. Huge thanks! (And I had to join **this** group to achieve it. hahaha)

Lobstergirl | 3489 comments Can't you just uncheck the box the says "email me when people reply"? Stop getting notifications about that thread.

A thread in a book discussion is not related to Neverending Trivia, and librarians wouldn't be able to/wouldn't see a need to "cap" that thread.

message 186: by C. (new)

C. (Riedel) I'm not getting e-mails, no. But the update feed keeps appearing whether I remove the checkmark or not.

I'll clarify, it's *listed* under a book discussion but there is no chat about the book or certainly, it could go on. It is a case of never-ending trivia, in a thread in which it doesn't belong.

Jaina (ireadtilldawn) | 10 comments Yeah, I can't figure out how to cap it either. Every now and then they mention Nancy Drew in the game, but on a whole it has very little to do with the book they're "discussing."

Lobstergirl | 3489 comments http://www.goodreads.com/trivia/detai...
http://www.goodreads.com/trivia/detai...
http://www.goodreads.com/trivia/detai...

Can we delete two of these? I find it rather odd that not just is the question identical, but the answers nearly so.

Banjomike | 4981 comments The Ibsen spoiler is gone.

The duplicates I'm less sure about. We don't usually remove dupes (look at the vast number of Twilight eye colour dross or questions about the name of Prim's goat). I seem to remember a brief discussion which ended with deciding that deleting such questions was not fair on the people who have taken it. I tend to go along with that. Perhaps we can start a new discussion on the subject now?

Lobstergirl | 3489 comments Do people really mind if a question they answered is subsequently deleted? It happens so infrequently (that a question more than 50 or so people have answered is deleted). I personally have never cared if a question vanishes from my "questions taken" stats.

You are probably right. If the questions are still there after breakfast (it is 1 in the morning now) I'll remove two.

Banjomike | 4981 comments Ok, done. Kept the oldest one 'cos that is the one that the other setters would have found if they had bothered to search to see if their question was already on Goodreads.

Not very useful. But it appears to be by the author (not claimed his profile) and does concern a genuine book-related topic related to 'his' book. I think we need to allow it.

Lobstergirl | 3489 comments Okay, I flagged it at least for not referring to a specific book. Maybe someone coming after me will delete it...

Barry | 67 comments http://www.goodreads.com/trivia/detai...

This user added the exact same question yesterday. It got deleted, and she appears to be holding a grudge for its deletion. The question has to do with a TV show.

Barry | 67 comments Someone must have been sitting on that one because it was gone in about two minutes.
