For this task read a book written by an author whose initials are found in the word Summer. (Initials must be sequential i.e. SU, UM, MM, ME, ER, and RS not SM).
Examples
SU - Sigrid Undset
UM - U.R. Anantha Murthy
MM - Michelle Moran
ME - Michael Ende
ER - Eva Rice
RS - R.A. Salvatore

If you need suggestions OR have suggestions for books to read for this task post them here.

Cait (caitertot) Margaret Mitchell
Elisabeth Robinson
Roger Shattuck
Rebecca Skloot
Robert Louis Stevenson

This one is proving much harder for me than I thought. The only authors that fit from my shelves are listed above, and I've already read Skloot's. Not sure I'm up for Gone With the Wind, so I'll probably read either
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters
or
Forbidden Knowledge: From Prometheus to Pornography

Petra Edward Rutherfurd.
I'm not sure if I'm up for New York, though. His other books are good but I've read them.

If you like mystery/detective stories, there's Marcia Muller.

Valorie | 723 comments Here are some PNR and Romantic Suspense authors...

Melina Morel
Raz Steel
Mathilde Madden

Marliss Melton
Roxanne St. Claire

Jennifer D (Booktrovert) I think I will be reading The Bluebird Cafe by Rebecca Smith. It seems to be 'quaint' and, with hope, a lovely summer read.

In my bookshelves, I found Cold Iron by Melisa Michaels. I haven't read it, so I have no idea if it's any good - but apparently at some point I thought it looked interesting!

I'm glad Robert Louise Stevenson Works...wasn't sure because of his middle name, but if he does, I have a few of his books I would love to read.

thanks!

ColleenPA | 84 comments I found Gunnar's Daughter by Sigrid Undset in our library. I loved the Kristen Lavransdatter trilogy, so this task is a wonderful reason to read more of her work!

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) | 467 comments Would R.L. Stine work?

yes

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) | 467 comments I have NO idea what to read for this task :(.

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) | 467 comments I'd like to read something Inspirational... I'm not really looking to get into more chic-lit or mystery right now. Or some Catholic lit would be alright.

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 1136 comments Has Melina Marchetta been suggested? Her books are really good (YA)... Saving Francesca was AWESOME! (The main character goes to Catholic school...)

message 24: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2884 comments The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind: Creating Currents of Electricity and Hope by William Kamkwamba is a very inspiring true story of a young man in Africa who sets out to better his family's lives.

S.U.M.M.E.R task -- no W., no K.

Sorry--I got this under the wrong task. I'm reading cross-eyed this morning.

scherzo♫ (pjreads) It is easy to mix up which task you're looking at. I was sensitive to this task because I almost posted several inspirational/Catholic books before realizing that none of the authors fit S.U.M.M.E.R. and had to go back and search again.

message 28: by scherzo♫ (last edited Jul 11, 2010 06:39AM) (new)

scherzo♫ (pjreads) Wit by Margaret Edson is a wonderful and inspirational book. (Less than 100 pages but that's okay for a 5 point task.)

Some other authors that fit S.U.M.M.E.R. (not particularly inspirational):

Picking Bones from Ash by Marie Mutsuki Mockett

The Speed of Light by Elizabeth Rosner

Marshall McLuhan

Robert Silverburg

Rex Stout

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) | 467 comments Sometimes, it can be so weird. I started a book the other day and when I was looking at the cover I realized the author fits this task. I wasn't even aiming for it to but I guess it happens sometime. Anyways, the author's name is Mil Millington and I am currently reading his book Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About: A Novel. I love it because it is so true!!!

Mrs.soule (Mrssoule) | 732 comments Would author Karen Marie Moning (Marie Moning = MM) be accepted for this task or does the first initial (K) mess it up?
