I quit using Librarything --200 book Limit and having to pay
I like Good reads and sheflari for different reasons
also like Bookcrossing too
The main issue I had with Shelfari is that it has very messed up book information. That in and of itself is no problem, but users have to ability to edit book info. Goodreads has librarians, and the ability to be one won me over.
The ability to view your books many different ways on GR is important to me as well. The shelf is cool and good for overviews of other people's books, but overwhelming to use for editing or in depth investigation of people's books.
I love the book recommendation feature.

GR is consistently full-featured, user-oriented, and getting better everyday. The only area where Shelfari excells is the web 2.0 interface. However, GR is consistent in this area as well, with an understandable and attractive interface, if less shiny :p
Shelfari is nice, but unfortunately not as nice/userfriendly as Goodreads. The page is loading too long, we cannot enter the books manually, etc etc.
The nice thing about it is the book recommendation feature: "shall i read this?".
librarything is my first book site, too bad after 200 books you have to pay (or making a second user id).
goodreads so far is still the best.
I've also enjoyed using Librarything and BooksIRead.org the second seems to be better as librarything is ugly and I hate the layout, I mostly just keep copies of the books I've read there as I spend all my time on this site.
Shelfari is great, but Shelfari is very immature and has put more attention into looking snazzy than being fully-featured and stable. I keep and ey on them and I have high hopes that eventually I will use both sites.
Ah, you mean the ones people listed under "other." I don't think any of the ones you just listed are book sites, but I'm only familiar with some of them.Generally, I don't do "social networking sites." GR is one of the few exceptions, and that's because it's about the books! :D
Rivka, I was actually asking about these:
"Multiply, Ning, Bebo, Gather, Squidoo...."
i went to squidoo...sounds way too complicated for my non technical brain. :)
I've just "voted" myself, which was fairly simple, as goodreads is the only social networking site I use. Why on earth would I need any of those other sites, when I get everything I need here? :)We now stand at 100 votes, btw...
Not all book sites. I apologize if I gave that impression. I wouldn't call many on the poll book sites either.
The link took me to a poll that didn't ask anything to do with which was better. True, but people generally assume that more users/voters = better. So I'm glad to see GR now has 98 votes, more than any other book site.
Whoa, are those all book sites???
No. GR, Shelfari, and LibraryThing are book sites. Facebook and MySpace are general networking sites; ClassMates is for finding fellow attendees of your HS, college, etc.; and LinkedIn is a business networking site.
I tried Bebo once, but I stopped logging on b/c someone hacked onto my friend's account and changed it. I thiught that if they could do it to hers then they could do it mine, so I'm done there!
ok i'm back. checked out 3 of those, and my response? AAaahhhhhhhhhhhhh! Sensory Overload!!!! I'll stick with my goodreads, thank you. :)
Puzzled. The link took me to a poll that didn't ask anything to do with which was better. It was a case of check as many as apply.
53 voters use Shelfari
88 voters use GoodReads
Moreover, it wasn't a complete list, because under social networking sites it omitted to mention Multiply, Ning, Bebo, Gather, Squidoo....
The link that posted in the digest was corrupted by punctuation. Anyone wanting to vote needs to return to this discussion, unless this works:http://www.bookreporter.com/cgi-bin2/sur...
I voted :) I've tried Shelfari, and no offense meant to them, I just didn't like the site. Goodreads is so much better.
Thanks for pointing that out Ben - I hadn't seen it! We'd definitely appreciate people voting - but personally I think the above compliment was the best :)
Just saw over at shelfari.com that they are asking everyone to vote for them in the bookreporter.com poll. IMO, Shelfari is inferior in almost every way so there is no reason for them to be beating GoodReads.
