Erika | 325 comments Does anyone know of books involving shape shifters that turn into birds? I'm reading Amelia Atwater-Rhodes Kiesha'ra series right now and it's inspiring me to read more of this.

So far I've come across The Chronicles of Elantra (Cast in Shadow, etc)) and Conclave of Shadows (Talon of the Silver Hawk, etc) (although I'm not sure if this one actually involves shape shifting or just uses a lot of bird names, etc). I'm wondering if there might be more. I tried google but all the results are for Atwater-Rhodes books!

Lisa | 437 comments Jennifer Roberson has a series of books about shape shifters, although they aren't all into birds. The Chronicles of the Cheysuli is a series of 8 books about this race of shape shifters. Not exactly what you are asking, but you might want to check it out.

Kandice | 3352 comments Not sure if this fits what you want, but have you read Ladyhawke?

I haven't read it but it does sound good. Thanks :)

Thanks :) I put it on my list in case I feel like reading something like that. I do like the political/warring shapeshifters aspect to Atwater-Rhodes books so it's a good possibility.

Bob | 5 comments I just finished Charles de Lint's "Someplace to be Flying". Shape-shifting birds is what that's all about. I didn't like it that much, but if you are into shapeshifting birds then I think you would probably dig it.

Thank you :) It says Newford #8 beside it's title. Is it part of a series you have to read all of, or could I get away with reading it by itself?

Bob | 5 comments No I don't think you have to have read any of the others - I hadn't and I never really got the feeling I was missing anything. From what I've read elsewhere, there are some characters that do show up in previous novels but it isn't like a continuing story or anything. I think he just likes to set his books in the same fictional town.

Joseph (BlueManticore) | 890 comments I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for, but in the sci-fi young adults Animorphs series by Katherine Alice Applegate five children are given the power to turn into any animal they touch, many of which are birds. The series starts with The Invasion.

There's also a great mystery/fantasy/sci-fi series by Lee Driver that starts with The Good Die Twice where one of the main characters can change into a hawk and a wolf.
