10818 At this point in the year I'm really ready for summer...but it's not here yet. Besides reading, what are your other goals or plans for the next few months? My goal is to write every day and to find the time of day I'm most creative. I feel like my best ideas come to me when I'm walking, but when I sit down to write they all flee, which doesn't make for prolific writing. I also want to spend more time on acrylic painting, and goal #3 is to take several walking tours of new york city (where I live) to become knowledgeable about my own backyard. Wondering if anyone else is a goal setter like me?

767086 My summer goals are to 1) crochet 3 scarves for my 3 best friends. 2) start scrapping again 3) paint my house.
Nothing too thrilling but IF I get those things done by summers end Ill be happy.

834245 Well, since Hubby informed me this Mother's Day that this is the last year I'm not a Mom, I'm thinking I need to really get things in our home in order! I really didn't want to start having children while still living in NJ and in an apartment, but... We do have the space AND we're not getting any younger (Hubby's 10 years older than I!), so... Maybe it will also help me get ready emotionally!

I started with a yard sale yesterday ~ which was a bust ~ made $50 but actually made $45 since I had to pay $5 to register with the town! But I did get rid of a lot and found things of mine that I haven't been able to find since we moved here in 12/05!

Other than that, I'd have to give this some thought! (Which I will!)

1034664 I want to learn how to play the drums or guitar and start to learn another language. I'm going to France in the summer holidays and I can speak some French(From secondary school) but I really want to be able to have a decent conversation, French accents are so sexy.

834245 Ok, add this 1 to my summer goals~ Getting Hubby's American Legion Post's website updated! I volunteered to do so because I think it's sad that the site hasn't been updated since 2005/ early 2006! With my health being so unpredictable, I'm unable to do much to help our Post out, but this I can do!

(And for those who don't know what The American Legion is, it's for Veteran's of all the branches of the United States Armed Forces aka Military, active & no longer active. Hubby is one of "The Few. The Proud. The Marines." <No longer active>)

622853 Summer goals?? Well.....my whole year is like one big summer day considering i have to stay home so you would THINK I could get these goals done every month huh? Maybe I should do that....every month set a goal and complete something on my ToDo list. One of the things I would really like to get done this summer is organize my photos. Right now I have a drawer filled with a year's worth of pictures that need to be put in albums so maybe I'll do that =)

I would also like to start an exercise program that I can stick to all year long because my heart really needs it. My heart's strength is slowly going downhill from lack of exercise and that's not a good thing.

I also need to read the stack of 27 books I have sitting on my bedroom floor........ we ALL have that to do though right?? LOL

message 15: by Amanda (new)

645979 Michael and Shazzy, you two are making me giggle!!! My one goal this summer that I'm DETERMINED to stick to is: visit somewhere I've never been before. One of my friends just moved to St. Louis, so now I have no excuses. :)

Holli, my brother just gave me my first digital camera in December and I'm only sort of getting the hang of it. I think I should probably start to organize my photos, too before my picture-taking gets too out of hand... yikes.

message 16: by Jo (new)

834245 Holli, as you already know, I have the same problems with getting things accomplished as you do! But I definately never looked at it like that before! Being on one lONG summer vacation!

I'm home more than I'm not, but with my health being so unpredictable (which is an enormous understatement!), more things go undone than those that get done!

I have to start exercising more too. I have no stamina anymore and I get winded easily. I also have to get more active to lose more of this weight! My normal is in the 120's. I've been up in the 180's and now I'm in the 170's! (Yeeesh!) It's the lack of being active since hurting my back that's added on the pounds & kept them on! But for me, being this heavy isn't good for my overall health!

Holli, not that you don't know this, but, PLEASE check with your doctor about what kind of exercising you can do! :)

I guess you can add 'getting more active' to my list!

message 17: by Holli (new)

622853 Amanda......it took me FOREVER to figure out my digital camera and there are still times I want my 35mm back again. I think my pics came out better with it than my digital one. I want to upgrade my digital to a Nikon D40 or D60. I don't like the Sony Cybershot I have....its outdated already and i just got it 4 years ago.

Jo.........I always say every day is Saturday to me!! Nothing changes but the people in my day..LOL I have a hard time getting things done too since just the average everyday things wear me out. For instance...today....its 3pm and I'm already exhausted. All I've done is answer emails, talk to my sister in law on the phone, pick up the house, do some laundry, make lunch, and shower. And I am truly spent as if I worked 16 hours today. Its ridiculous sometimes how little I can do now after my heart attack.... Take care of your tickers people!! (as my 7 year old nephew as always told me since my heart attack!) =) As far as exercising I can walk 2 miles a day and that's it. Nothing more. Oh wait....I can do 1/2 an hour of Pilates a day. No strength training...can't work up a sweat....nothing strenuous at all. Its frustrating sometimes!!

message 18: by Leslie (new)

1017061 Hey Jo I am probably one of the few in my generations (30 somethings) that not only know what the American Legion is but are actually an auxillary member. The day I was born my aunt & uncle signed me up via my dad. So I have been a proud member since October 4, 1970 in Ennis, TX where my dad's family lives!! It helped that my Uncle was the one of state leaders in Texas about that time as well. That is a very honorable goal and I wish you much luck!

Now my goal is to get a bit more into shape before my 20th reunion this August. I have been attempting to fix up my old 10-speed. Right now the bike chain I have been trying to replace for the last 3 days is winning though. I at least got the bugger off finally!! It was a bit old and frozen in a place....oops! Its been 9 years since I rode (was in car accident) so I am trying to get a little more freedom on the weekends by riding to the park, etc. Walking all the time gets boring after a while. Need to change the pace a bit to stay focused.

message 19: by Meg (new)

772262 I am also looking forward to school ending and starting my summer life. I have a 140 year old house that needs constant attention. Every summer I am painting another section, so that is always on my list. Also plenty of reading and gardening. I love golf so that is also on my list, as well as jewelry making and art work. On top of that I am trying desperately to lose a ton of weight and increase my exercise (just bought wii fit). So glad I joined this group!

message 20: by Sydney (new)

743203 My summer goals are:

- reading a book a week (or more if I can squeeze it in).

- Learn more crochet stitches (right now I have 4 stitches that I know how to do I'm just learning.)

- Visiting my brother and sister, who each live in different states than me.

- Run the first of my 2 5Ks this year.

- Potty train my son (he's almost 3)

Notice I saved the worst for last?

message 21: by April (new)

907986 Wow, I don't know where to start! My goals for the summer are:
-become a certified yoga teacher (or at least start my training)
-30 hour training to become a CASA volunteer.
-Begin studying for my Paralegal certification exam.
-Figure out what is killing my flowers.
-Plan a block party!
I'm sure there are many more since I'm not happy unless I'm stressed out!

message 22: by Cyndi (new)

1206853 Sydney, a little unsolicited advise on potty training your little guy. I tried to potty train mine before he was ready and it didn't go so well. It saves a lot of hassle and headaches if you wait until they are ready!
Good for you on a book a week! We have a challenge to read 50 by the end of 2008. Its a hefty goal, but we'll see!

message 23: by Genia (new)

1087795 The goals for the summer are more than I can list! Main ones are to reorganize my craft room and the spare bedroom. Since my son moved out. it has become the "catch all" room! I participated in a community yard sale this past weekend, didn't get rid of much, I think it was too hot for a yard sale. Going to try again in a couple of weeks.
Finish kitchen, I painted it but I want to replace the handles and hinges on the cabinets and I cannot locate replacements I like!

Take heart, Sydney - my little boy was 4 before he was completely potty trained. I cried because I thought I would be packing pampers to kindergarten. But, once we put him in pre-K4 and he saw all the other children going to the potty room, he caught the excitement and that was it. (Then I cried again because my little one had passed another milestone -- can you tell I am a softie for little ones?)

834245 Glad to see you Chicks picking up this thread again & getting a head start on this Summer's goals. Seeing this made me realize I didn't start a Spring goals thread - there's till time for me to do so! Once I get off this IV pole (today's my once every 8 week treatment) I'll get on the pc & start it! (I'm on my cell now).

message 32: by Brandie (new)

1132341 My Summer goals are getting a really good tan and reading lots and lots of books. :) I'm hoping to get all the 'house work' stuff done in the Spring (or whatever this is, since OHIO never has a Spring) so I can have fun all Summer.

message 33: by Lizzi (new)

1667625 Summer is simple...somehow get a tan and feel decent in a bathing suit.

1044994 Lizzi wrote: "Summer is simple...somehow get a tan and feel decent in a bathing suit."

Agreed...and a good amount of rest and relaxation. I'll need it after finishing this year of teaching.

message 35: by Lori (new)

1769862 My goals, aside from summer school (which isn't a goal but a chore), are to read read read, get a tan, get good at tennis, start a running regimen and do some major cleaning.

message 36: by Kelly Jo (new)

1094613 My summer goals:
1 - Move my lazy butt and get outside. It is my goal in the next few weeks to find a new puppy, so that will insure my movement this summer.
2 - Write, write, and write more.

Lizzi - I agree about feeling good in a bathing suit thing. Ugh. I can't remember ever feeling good in one! Perhaps if I start working-out again, or start yoga again... .

message 37: by Jo (new)

834245 My goal for this coming Summer is to get the basement cleaned out/purged and 'organized.' (And attempt (again) to get my sister-in-law & bro-in-law to get their crap out of our basement too. It's been 3 years already!) AND look outside of NJ for a place to live and for Hubby to work. If I can have these done before Autumn, I'll be very happy.

Other things I'd like to accomplish: Continue exercising, finish the spare room re-do, keep writing and reading, find ways for Hubby & I to spend time away from the apt complex when we don't have anything scheduled here (he's the on site manager).

message 38: by teri (new)

Yes, Brenda and Jo (and anyone else) and let's do it right, darn it, starting with the Amalfi coast. And NO HUSBANDS, either. Just chicks. So we can enjoy wine and cheese and and the view of those Italian men in those tiny bathing suits.

message 45: by Kelly Jo (new)

1094613 Hmmm, I'd also like to come along on the Chicks Italian Adventure.

message 46: by Jo (new)

834245 Woohoo teri - I'm there w/ya! Hubby can't wait to get rid of me for some alone/guy time, lol! (Seriously).

17642 My summer goals are:

- to clock a better time in the Naples Mini-triathlon (only about one month left)!
- to make sure I throw a wonderful three-day birthday bash for my husband in Key West (it is only going to be the two of us, so that shouldn't be hard).
- to find a couple hours of time just for me every day (it is harder than it sounds!)
- to read at least three books a month
- to find a way to get home to Indiana to see my family

Thanks, Chicks! Now that I have written them down, I am really going to try and follow through!

message 48: by Jo (new)

834245 That's why we do this with each season, to help motivate & support one another!

message 49: by Katie (new)

1283225 My goals for the summer are:

-complete at least 2 5ks (running as much as possible)
-strip rest of wallpaper and have house painted
-complete Nutrition & Wellness certification
