923550 I am loving Eloisa James and Mary Balogh right now. I have finished the Essex Sister Series by James and now starting the Web series by Balogh.

I like series but they kill me to because I MUST read them in order. Even if I am not too fond of the plot of some of them!

message 2: by Jennifer (new)

1262181 I love Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas. I recently finished Lost Duke of Wyndam and while I liked it- it wasn't one of my favorites. Lisa Kleypas has 2 books coming out this year- another wallflower book (a Bowman Brother) and her second in the Hathaway Series which I CANNOT wait for.

49900 Mary Balogh is my very very favorite. Is there anything hotter than Slightly Dangerous?

message 4: by Amy (new)

478604 Mary Balogh, Eloisa James, Julia Quinn, Suzanne Enoch, Liz Carlyle, Joan Smith, Georgette Heyer, Elizabeth Boyle, Carla Kelly - I really have too many favorites to name.

message 5: by Kelly (new)

1154479 I love all the authors mentioned so far and I would add some of the older traditional Regency writers: Emma Jensen, Diane Farr, Barbara Metzger and Sheila Simonson. I also just finished the Naomi Novik Temeraire series which was fabulous. Not romance, but an interesting take on the Napoleonic wars.

message 6: by Jessica (new)

824219 I also have enjoyed the Temeraire series. I would add to the Regency authors list Claire Darcy, Victoria Holt and Daphne Du Maurier. I realize a bit more gothic as far as Daphne goes but fabulous none the less.

message 7: by Harlequin (new)

1378457 Nicola Cornick, Candace Camp, Gail Ranstrom, Stephanie Laurens, Victoria Alexander, just to name a few. Regeny is my absolute favorite genre and I have so many authors that I must buy, it drives my husband crazy because I can't walk past the book aisle in any store and he won't even go into a bookstore with my any more. LOL

message 8: by Jaimey (new)

1654851 I have many Regency loves, namely, Marion Chesney, Barbara Metzger, Judith Lansdowne, Patricia Veryan--I haven't finished all of hers yet but I really loved the Georgians (I, too, must read series books in order), Charlotte Louise Dolan, older Anne Stuart & Loretta Chase, Jo Beverley, Julia Quinn and many, many more that would take all day and several more posts to name... :o)

message 9: by B (new)

2123622 If you like Balogh's Bedwyns, you'll love Loretta Chase's Carsington brothers: Lord Perfect, Mr. Impossible, and Not Quite a Lady

message 10: by Lerize (new)

2164358 Hehe I love Julia Quinn as well. "The Viscount who Loved Me" is my favourite - I couldn't stop laughing at one point. The others (those that I've read so far) haven't quit made such a great impression on me.

=D I recommend you read some of Loretta Chase's novels, I nearly canned myself laughing when I read "Lord Perfect"! I adore Regency romances with a fun side =)

message 11: by Lerize (new)

2164358 Some of the other authors that I really like are Stephanie Laurens and Gaelen Foley. Oh! and Cari Hislop's online short romances are also pretty hysterical. Hislop scores points in my book for breaking away from the conventional - her heroines range from the obese to those with literal bad-luck and her heroes from the self-centred to the nearly deaf. Makes for some interesting story lines LOL!

message 12: by Jaimey (new)

1654851 I find Loretta Chase's writing style very entertaining. Lord of Scoundrels had me in stitches. And I highly recommend her short story, The Mad Earl's Bride in Three Weddings and a Kiss. It is connected to LOS. I haven't read her Carsington series yet. I'll have to add them to my wishlist.

Of Julia Quinn's, The Viscount Who Loved Me & An Offer From a Gentleman were the two--so far--that I enjoyed the most.

message 13: by Suzanne (new)

2167951 I'm a fan of older, more traditional regencies. I love Elizabeth Mansfield, Joan Smith (try Escapade), Barbara Metzger, Clare Darcy (already mentioned) Carola Dunn, Susan Carroll, and Marian Devon. If any of you read eBooks, there's a great site (that I am in no way affiliated with) called www.regencyreads.com that is re-releasing a lot of the older Regencies as eBooks.

Thanks,

Suzanne

1386709 I find Julia Quinn's novels witty and fun, the same goes for Lisa Kleypas and Victoria Alexander. More recently I've picked up Johanna Lindsey's Malory series and Stephanie Laurens' Cynster Family series and I've been searching high and low for their books.

I agree, Julia Quinn is fun. I am currently reading her "Two Dukes of Wyndham" duo and I think the reviewers on Amazon have been rather hard on her. They're not as good as her Bridgerton series but they are still entertaining. Several people complained about the second book being too close to the first, so I decided to read them at the same time. I think she should have written one volume with four POVs instead of two full-length novels. But that's just my opinion. In all honesty, though, I think I like the characters in the second book better...

I've never read Lisa Kleypas but I've been hearing so much about her books lately that I'm starting to get curious. :o)

The Lost Duke of Wyndham (Two Dukes of Wyndham, #1) Mr. Cavendish, I Presume (Two Dukes of Wyndham, #2)

message 16: by Chasidy (new)

1386709 Oh, Jaimey, do get curious with Lisa Kleypas. I've only read her Wallflower series but Im sure if I do come across any of her other works I will not hesitate to pick it up. Though, I've heard her contemporary works aren't as good as her historicals.

message 17: by Radia (new)

2185360 my favourite lisa kleypas has been again the magic so far i read a couple, not her contemporaries though.
i like the desperate duchess series by eloisa james and the bridgerton series.

2134979 Hi all! I just joined this group & love reading regency era novels. My favorite authors are Judith McNaught, Kat Martin, and Julia Quinn. I already bought a couple of Mary Balogh & Lisa Kleypas's novels, but haven't read them.

Welcome to the group!

I have enjoyed some of Mary Balogh's older Regencies but have not tried her more recent ones. Which ones did you get?

message 21: by Nona (new)

1521956 I'm new to the group, I love regency era novels by authors like Georgette Heyer, Gaelen Foley, Johanna Lindsey and of course my favorite Jane Austen.

Welcome to the group, Nona! I am not familiar with Gaelen Foley's books; which one is your favorite?

message 23: by Nona (new)

1521956 I'm currently reading The Lord of Fire it is a romance, the hero you might say is a rake while the heroine is a sweet lady. He's a spy for the crown so there is where the troubles are from but all together it is a great read. Lord of Ice, The Duke etc. are all good though.

I'm rereading "Dangerous" now--one of the very best!

Hi, welcome =D I'm also a big fan of Gaelen Foley and Johanna Lindsey. I've never read a Georgette Heyer novel before, though I've heard of her, I just never see any of her titles her in bookstores here in South Africa :(

Are her novels really that good? Maybe I can order some of her titles from Amazon or Kalahari.net ...

message 26: by B (new)

2123622 Georgette Heyer died in 1976, although her novels are being reprinted. A few of her books are mediocre, but most are fabulously funny. I'd recommend These Old Shades, The Devil's Cub, Arabella, The Grand Sophy, and Venetia, The Convenient Marriage.

Nophoto-u-25x33 Has anyone read the "Legacy" books by Catherine Coulter?
I LOVE Mary Balogh!Candice Hern also a good read.

Nophoto-u-25x33 If you are looking for books; half.com is a great site

2012809 I like Candice Hern. She is steady.

I stopped reading Coulter after the Sherlbrooke series.

2595016 I'm new to the group. Picking one favorite is really tough . . . But, I pounce on any new books by Mary Balogh, Julia Quinn and Victoria Alexander. I just finished re-reading Simply Love. Its not my very favorite Balogh . . . but, I've read all her other books that are available on ereader :(. I read regency for light reading so I LOVE Quinn's humor. I'm combing through these posts looking for new authors :)

message 32: by Linda (new)

Nophoto-u-25x33 just discovered Judith McNaught-Loved the Westmoreland series. Lots of twists and turns-not the typical Regency story!

message 33: by seton (new)

2012809 I just re-read UNTIL YOU recently and noticed that her research was . . . not her strongpoint.

message 34: by Marisella (new)

1217151 I love the Regency romances, especially some of the older authors; Mary Balogh, Marion Chesney, Georgette Heyer, Charlotte Lamb and Jane Aiken-Hodge are some of my favorites. Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Hoyt and Judith McNaught are wonderful also. I think "these old shades" by G heyer is my absolute favorite! I gave it to my 17yo daughter, and she is now a Heyer Fanatic!

message 35: by Marisella (new)

1217151 If you are looking for older/out of print books, try
http://www.paperbackswap.com/ it's a great place to trade books. they are currently working on creating an international database and swap system, which would be awesome. also, barnes and noble has a great used book search/browse system, you get the same b&n discounts.

message 36: by Marisella (new)

1217151 Elizabeth Hoyt has a wonderful regency series, starting with "the raven prince". Her research is thorough, and the characters very enjoyable. here's her web site, http://www.elizabethhoyt.com/

Nophoto-f-25x33 I love Laurens and Julia Quinn and Mary Balogh - currently reading the Simply series. I think Sabrina Jeffries is great too - always makes me smile. Amanda Quick is good, if sometimes quirky! I enjoyed Jacquie D'Alessandro's Mayhem in Mayfair series and Celeste Bradley's The Liar's Club and The Royal Four. I have Hoyt's Prince series to read and have read the first 3 books in the Legends of the Four Soldiers series. I quite like books in series. I've only read one Lisa Kleypas (Someone to Watch Over Me) and it wasn't bad, but it didn't thrill me either. Ah well. Love Heyer of course - chaste but often very funny! I think Venetia is my favourite.

message 38: by Amanda (new)

1641736 So many authors I have not read yet that I'm looking forward to reading! I love Judith McNaught (Whitney My Love), Lisa Kleypas (Dreaming of You), Mary Balogh (Slightly Wicked), Julia Quinn, Elizabeth Hoyt (The Serpent Prince), Loretta Chase (Lord of Scoundrels).

Hi all. I've read most of the authors you mention and enjoy them. You may want to check out Julie Anne Long's books. I loved them all. If you like ebooks try to find Scarlett Rains' book, Promises of the Heart. Great historical!

I haven't even heard of these authors! Is there any place to find them online, or are they like some of the older Mary Balogh books, which are very expensive.

message 41: by Marisella (new)

1217151 I reallly love Marion Chesney, her books are so visceral! the characters are so real; petty, vindictive, selfish, and usually come together as we hope they will.

message 42: by Linda (new)

1317335 If you're willing to go back an era, read Jo Beverly's Malloren series about a Georgian family. Jo wrote this before Mary Balogh did her Slightly series, and it's obvious to me this the Mallorens were the inspiration for the Bedwyns. Both series are wonderful.

Hi Marisella -- my ONCE UPON A CHRISTMAS shouldn't be too hard to find, since it was re-released last Christmas. I'd love it if you checked out my website; I have little tidbits about each of the books on my "About the Books" section. You can see if any of them sound like they might be your cup of tea. And I get brownie points or something if you click on the Amazon link(s) on my webpage. [grin:]

Thanks for asking!
cheers,
Diane
