Vicki Ok, so I tried 75 last year and fell miserably short with only 45. However, I did read some excellent books. This year I will be more realistic and aim for 50. Five of which I would like to be classics and half I want to currently be on my bookshelf right now.

How was The Kite Runner for you?

message 7: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I enjoyed The Kite Runner, but I was slightly disappointed only because of how much I loved A Thousand Splendid Suns. I think my expectations were set way too high. Still it was an excellent read.

I too liked 'A thousand splendid suns'better than 'the Kite Runner', may be because the former deals with the plight of women, and the latter is mostly male oriented. Where I live, I have seen too much of male dominance and suppression of females, especially among the lower socioeconomic group. I could relate well to the plight of those two wives, though I don't have a first hand experience of male domination

message 10: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Smitha, I, too, defintitely identified with the female story more.

message 29: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Yeah, I agree. At first, I was like this was really creepy, but it was interesting enough, that I had to know where it all went. I enjoyed the language, it was written quite well, I just felt at some points, I knew more than I really wanted to know.

Jennifer W | 1644 comments I read Bone Garden a while ago. It was my first Tess Gerritsen. Have you read others by her? How do they compare to this one?

I really want to read Rain and Lightning. I read my first book of hers, The Virgin of Small Plains and tore through it.

message 37: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I haven't read anything else by her. A student of mine lent me this and I liked it, though some of the reviews sounded as if this was one of her less liked books.

I really want to read The Virgin of Small Plains now. I loved this book. I started it yesterday and finished today, though I am sad it's over.
