Nophoto-m-25x33 How is it disappointing? I am still in The Power Of Three series.

1327930 November woo hoo

Hi everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving to my American friends! And Canadian friends, I'm very, very sorry I forgot to mention your Thanksgiving last month. Do I at least get some brownie points for knowing that you celebrate on a different date? I don't think many British people know that. :-) To make up for it, I looked up some Canadian Fascinating Facts this month. Did you know that the baseball glove was invented in Canada in 1883? I wonder what distinguished the first "proper" baseball glove? Alas, my page of Canadian Trivia didn't tell me that.

Enough of baseball! There's something even more important going on this month - in fact, this very day.

OMEN OF THE STARS BOOK ONE IS HERE!!!

Quick, what are you doing reading this? You should be halfway through The Fourth Apprentice by now (or probably finished, knowing the speed at which you lot read)! So, what do you think of the fourth apprentice's special power? And did you like the scene when Ivypaw..? How about when Rippletail..? I don't need to fill in the blanks because you'll find out soon enough. And as always, we're genuinely looking forward to hearing your thoughts. We feel incredibly privileged to have such insightful and articulate readers, who sometimes see more in the stories than we see ourselves. It is a delight and an honor to be able to introduce you to the fourth series of Warriors books, and a cast of new characters who will discover the truth about the Prophecy of the Three as well as the darkest secrets of StarClan.

If you haven't been able to get your own copy of The Fourth Apprentice, don't forget to give your local or school librarian a nudge because they'll be able to order it for you! You'll find an extra treat at the back of the book, too: the first full-length adventure in the Warriors Adventure Game. Hopefully the mini-mission that appeared on www.warriorcats.com in September has given you a chance to set up your group of players, and whetted your appetite for another completely original Warriors story to direct yourselves. There are many, many different options within the adventure, all with a different outcome, so feel free to go back to the beginning and start again once you complete the mission once. :-)

If you're a regular visitor to www.warriorcats.com, you'll notice that we've made a few changes to the site, starting today. The pages will look very similar, but everything is just a little more streamlined and easier to navigate, with bigger buttons to take you to the Message Boards, www.seekerbears.com, and the Adventure Game. If you haven't visited it before, check it out! There's a lot going on, and it's the best place to catch authentic and accurate Warriors news (because I have to say, the rest of the internet is a hotbed of wild rumours that need to be taken with a VERY large pinch of salt! Like, there are NO Warriors movies in production! Sorry.).

So, do you consider yourself to be a truly dedicated fan? Think you know everything about the world of feral cats and wandering bears? In that case, you need to head to the Official Message Boards for The Warriors and Seekers Fanatic Challenge! Once a week, ChallengeHost will post a trivia question in this brand new forum about the world of Warriors or Seekers. Get those fast fingers ready - the first TEN fans to reply directly to the posted question with the correct answer will receive an exclusive Avatar upgrade. Our Admins will update your current Avatar with some special features, so everyone across the boards will know you are a true Erin Hunter fanatic. For official rules, visit The Warriors and Seekers Fanatic Challenge forum post.

Sigh, we're just too good to you. :-) Other news is that Cherith has finished the first draft of next year's Super Edition: SkyClan's Destiny and it's looking fabulous! Kate is making inroads into Omen of the Stars Book Three: Night Whispers, and I'm finishing up the storyline for Seekers Book Six: Spirits in the Stars (yay! It has a title!) which Cherith will tackle once SkyClan's Destiny has been polished to perfection.

Enjoy The Fourth Apprentice, folks. I know it's been a long time coming, but I really, really hope the wait has been worthwhile.

With love and good wishes

1327930 October

Hi everyone,
October is upon us! Is your porch heaving under the weight of hollowed-out pumpkins? Do you have strange cobwebby things hanging from the trees in your front yard? Here, folks might have one little pumpkin or perhaps a cut-out of a black cat stuck to a window, but we don't have any of your fabulous 3-D outdoor displays of ghosts and witches wafting around outside.

For the Erins, work continues apace on SkyClan's Destiny, Omen of the Stars #3: Night Whispers (how much do you love that title? :) and the sixth Seekers book (we have some strong contenders for a title, but you'll have to wait and see!). It feels as if Cherith and I have been working on SkyClan's Destiny, which is next year's Super Edition to be released August 2010, forever. The truth is, some storylines spring from my imagination fully formed, and others take ages to reveal themselves. I always had a clear idea of the theme I wanted to explore in SD: a Clan that is so new, so lacking in neighboring Clans to guide them, that they have to figure out their own path, with the help of the warrior code and their long-lost ancestors. It was no problem to create a group of cats from several vastly different backgrounds, and a leader with solemn doubts about her responsibilities, and some mysterious visitors who have their own dark reasons for joining the Clan. Working out exactly what SkyClan's destiny is, and how they have to reach it, is a whole other matter! I've discarded half a dozen endings, but I think I've found one that should please everyone, as well as make sense with the rest of the story. It's been like trying to finish a jigsaw with one piece missing!

While Cherith and I wrestle with far-off Clanmates, there are plenty of good things going on for you this month. The gorgeous and shiny box sets for Power of Three and Graystripe's Manga are now on sale-did someone say "ideal gift for your favorite Clanmate"? And if you're hungry for more manga (why wouldn't you be? It's awesome!), you can pre-order the first book in Ravenpaw's Trilogy right now from your local bookstore or online. The most popular cat in ThunderClan is back! At least, that how it seems, judging by the number of you who beg me to bring him into the stories again. His Manga Trilogy whisks us back in time to when the four Clans were still in the forest. Trouble on the farm sends Ravenpaw to his former Clanmates with a desperate plea for help-but the answer turns out to lie in Barley's long-buried past.

Don't forget to pre-order your copy of Omen of the Stars #1: The Fourth Apprentice, which comes out at the end of November. I don't think any Warriors book has ever been so eagerly anticipated-which makes me nervous that it has to live up to expectations! But something tells me that you'll approve of the cat who's going to take the final place in the prophecy of the Three, and trust me, her particular power was a lot of fun to write! You'll find a sneak peek of the opening chapter on www.warriorcats.com. Have you visited our Marvellous Message Boards lately to meet other fans? And have you had a chance to download the Adventure Game and print out your character sheets and mini-mission yet? Don't worry if you don't have Clanmates right on your doorstep to share the adventure; there are groups popping up on the forums to play the game online, and I'm sure they'd all be glad of more players.

Huge Thank You Purrs to everyone who filled out the survey on behalf of the game that we're developing for the future. Literally thousands of you took time to let us know your online gaming habits, the sort of thing you'd expect from an online community, and your preferences in the design ideas for the new game. We've listened, made notes, and will hopefully deliver exactly what you want in terms of style, features and play. More news to follow at the next stage!

Two fascinating facts in one for you this month: In the US, the most popular pet name is Max, and the most popular name for a boat is Liberty. So, anyone have a pet called Max AND a boat called Liberty? How about a pet called Liberty and a boat called Max? Write me and let me know!

With love and good wishes!

1327930 september

Hi everyone,

Happy September! By now, I guess that those of you who are meant to be in school are back at school, grappling with the start of the new year. I hope you have sympathetic timetables, entertaining teachers, and cafeterias that serve hot chocolate brownies.

In case you're feeling battered by the demands of homework and having to get up at dawn every day, we have plenty of good things to ease you into Fall. First up, AT LAST the Warriors Adventure Game is here! All the essential background information - rules, character sheets, and your first gripping mini-mission - are now posted on www.warriorcats.com, yippee! Lots of good things to download and digest before you begin creating your own unique Warriors character. Start fixing up Gatherings with your friends now, so the adventures can begin! I'm really looking forward to hearing about your characters and how your missions progress - remember, there are lots of different ways each adventure can play out, so when you've been through it once, you can go back to the beginning and find a brand new path. This is a fabulous chance to become part of the Warriors world, and find out what it's really like to be a warrior - or an apprentice, a medicine cat, even a Clan leader!

As well as the Adventure Game, we're in the early stages of developing a brand new online game which will plunge you into the world of the Clans as they face the ultimate challenge: the potential destruction of all the Clans. We're busy working on the game right now, but before we get too far, we need to consult the experts…and those experts are YOU! Please take a moment to fill out our survey, which gives you the chance to have direct input into the new online game.

Meanwhile, we're still finding plenty of time to focus on the most important part of Warriors: THE BOOKS. And the moment lots of you have been waiting for is almost here: Omen of the Stars Book One: The Fourth Apprentice launches in two months' time! Yup, the fourth series (oh my goodness, I think I need to lie down) is upon us, and with it comes a Clanful of new characters to love and hate, as well as plenty of familiar faces. If you want to pre-order this, you might like to get in your order for the sheeny-shiny box set of Power of Three: Books One-Three, which goes on sale on October 6th. The box sets are so gorgeous and fit so nicely on a shelf that I highly recommend them! They also make great gifts for folk who haven't yet discovered the fabulousness of Warriors, and Christmas is just around the corner, hint hint.

In August, I got the chance to learn not just a new fact but a whole new skill, when I spent a week on a canal boat in the south of France. I opted to do the lion's share of the driving, because I like that kind of thing and also because I'm incapable of sitting still and doing nothing, even when gliding through gorgeous scenery in perfect sunshine. After a pretty shameful start, crashing into lock gates and dropping ropes into the water every few minutes, I got the hang of controlling our little boat and even felt smug when other holidaymakers made a mess of their driving. I'm not sure that reflects well on me, but I did enjoy learning to do something I'd never tried before. It seems kind of appropriate to recommend learning a new skill at the start of the school year, so go on, try out some of the activities on offer outside of lessons, and you might discover a talent you never knew you had!

With love and good wishes!

1327930 August

Hi everyone,

I'm going to start with What I Have Learned this month: Alas, it is that I possess neither the grace nor the coordination to ride a mountain-board down a steep hill. My brother persuaded me to try out his kite-board (minus the kite, which makes it a giant all-terrain skateboard) over the weekend. I made it halfway down the hill and felt inordinately proud of myself, but then the wheels hit a bump and my brain instructed me to step off. In fact, I cartwheeled spectacularly through the air and landed on my back with the board careering to the bottom of the hill without me. Humiliating, much? And far more painful than it should have been, which makes me feel terribly old. I'm covered in bruises, I've wrenched my left shoulder, and my neck feels like it's in a grip of steel. I used to fall off horses all the time and bounce straight back to my feet. I guess I'm just not cut off for cool wheel-based sports.

So it's quite a relief to be back home, tapping away at the storyline for SkyClan's Destiny (next year's Super Edition) and thinking about the final book in this series of Seekers. I'm sitting on a nice soft cushion and have some soothing herbal cream to apply when my bruises get too sore. The gorgeous sunshine of July has vanished so I'm not even tempted to flop on the grass outside. In fact, we've had so much rain that I'm back to washing Missy's paws every time we've been for a walk. Who stole my summer?!

Okay, who's read Bluestar's Prophecy already? I've forced myself to peek at Amazon and other bookselling websites to check out the reviews and so far there are lots of gold stars, PHEW. My expectations are far, far higher with this book because I truly believe it's one of our best ever. It was a joy to work on with Kate, and I think we've ended up with exactly the book that I wanted, which doesn't always happen, believe me. I always know a story is going well when the characters start to speak for themselves, which is what happened with Thrushpelt in this instance. I'm not going to give away any details, but his role was so minor as to be almost unnoticeable when I first bashed out the storyline. Only when he stepped up to the plate and made Bluefur an incredibly generous offer (you'll know what I mean if you've read the book!) did I suspect that he should have been more important right from the start. I went back and changed several of the earlier scenes so that we'd be aware of him throughout Bluefur's career, and he turned out to be a really remarkable cat.

Luckily, Kate is beyond patient when I fiddle with bits of the story that she's already written. So I make a start on the storyline, send it to her so she can begin the first draft, then I keep adding bits more every day, hopefully keeping just ahead of her. Which means of course that if I change my mind about something in the first part of the story, or want to add more information in an early chapter, she has to go back and rewrite. The fact that Kate, Cherith and Tui are so willing to work in this fluid, back-and-forth way is a major part of Erin's success!

I've also been taking peeks at the Official Warriors and Seekers Message Boards at www.forums.warriorcats.com, and it's great to see that so many of you have already taken part in a discussion or raised a question on the Q&A forum. We're thrilled to be able to provide this safe environment for all your chat. And we're listening, I promise!

Keep visiting the www.warriorscats.com site because next month you'll finally get to see and download the rules, character sheets, and a practice mission for the Warriors Adventure Game! In the game, you'll get to create your own cat, choose a Clan, and, along with your friends, play through various missions. I've had a sneak preview of the Warriors Adventure Game and I know you're going to love it.

If you're on summer vacation at the moment, have a happy, safe time. And if you could parcel up some sunshine and mail it to me in the dreary UK, that would be lovely!

With love and good wishes,
Erin x

2478609 wow.

1327930 ya she is

here is the author tracker for July

Hi everyone,

After the rather disappointing damp start to June, July has arrived in a blaze of sunshine! Parts of the UK have been wilting under record-breaking heat—I know temperatures in the nineties are pretty standard for lots of places in the US, but that's hot, hot, hot for us. My dog Missy has barely been able to summon the energy to stagger into the garden and flop in the shade, and she's spent every night sleeping on the cold tiles in the bathroom. I've been tempted to lie down next to her!

Huge Thank You Purrs to everyone who rushed out and bought this year's Special Edition, Code of the Clans, in which the stories behind each part of the warrior code were revealed. Did you spot the reason for Tigerstar's obsessive hatred of kittypets? I don't think we should feel any sympathy for him, but it's good to know that there's a degree of logic behind his evil ambition.

I am very excited about the title that releases at the end of this month (on July 28th, to be precise). I know I've been muttering about it all year but trust me, it's going to be worth it! At last you'll have the chance to read what I think could the best Warriors book ever: the 2009 Super Edition: Bluestar's Prophecy. Toot de toot! (That's my attempt at a fanfare, by the way.) The story begins with a tiny blue-gray kit opening her eyes for the very first time and setting paw outside the nursery to explore the Clan that will one day be hers. A long and difficult journey lies ahead - stained with the blood of cats that are close to her, briefly illuminated by her passion for a forbidden cat, followed by the hardest decision of all. Come, walk with one of our most beloved and troubled cats, and live through the events that shaped her destiny.

At the same time as Bluestar's Prophecy appears on the shelves (July 28th - don't forget that date! I'm thinking of moving my birthday to share it…), Power of Three #4: Eclipse launches in paperback. This was one of the most popular Power of Three titles, with its devastating moment of darkness as well as one of the longest all-Clan battles in history. If you missed it in hardcover, here's your chance to add it to your collection.

More exciting goings-on online this month, too. As the new books hit the shelves, don't forget to check out www.warriorcats.com for a brand new feature: an Interactive Timeline, which will enable you to scroll through every single book in the three series, plus all the extras, and see the main events that happened in each. It's Spoiler-tastic, so don't peek if you don't want to know what happens! But it should be very useful for new readers who want to catch up with what characters have done before, as well as for old readers who want to check details of the Clan histories that might have faded into the mists of their memories. We fully appreciate how loooooong the series has become, which is Yay for us (and for you, hopefully!), but we don't want anyone to feel confused or overwhelmed by how much there is to remember. We refer to lists of past storylines all the time to keep track of where everyone should be, and we figured you'd appreciate being able to do the same.

Finally, we've listened to the many, many requests, and even some impassioned pleas, and have created brand new, sparkly Warriors and Seekers Message Boards. See, we do take notice of what you tell us! :) The boards are live, so here's your chance to post messages about your favourite Clans, cats, bears and storylines, as well as speculate about what happens next. We can't wait to see which topics pop up for some hot debate! The Warriors and Seekers fan community is so active and vocal and generally fabulous on the internet that it will be a pleasure and a privilege to welcome you all to the official site. Come on in and get chatting!

The Fascinating Facts this month focus on JULY because it is the best month of the year! It has the most sunshine, school's out, and my birthday comes right in the middle! In the Ancient Roman calendar, July was the fifth month (the year started with March), so the Romans called it Quintilius, which means fifth. It was renamed July after the emperor Julius Caesar who was born on July 12th. Quick, quick, pre-order your copy of Bluestar's Prophecy and let me know if you agree with me! Is it the best Warriors book ever? Or is Darkest Hour still at the top of the tree?

With love and good wishes,
Erin x

1327930 the one for June is here

Hi everyone,

June is here – but as I write this England is being battered by gales and torrential rain. Time to stay in with a good book, methinks… Maybe I should sign up to be a Reading Warrior at www.readingwarriors.com, and earn Clan promotions for every book I finish.

I’d like to be a medicine cat – but not if I have to do anything yucky to get there, like remove ticks with mouse bile. Ick. I’m extremely squeamish, and become quite feeble at the sight of blood. My dog Missy ran through a wooden gate last week, and ended up with a minuscule graze on her shoulder. You could barely see it against her dark brown and gold hair, but I still had to get someone else to wash her fur and apply antiseptic cream.

Seekers #3: Smoke Mountain came out last month, so huge Thank You Purrs to everyone who rushed out and bought out, catapulting Seekers back up the bestseller lists. JJJ Early signs are that you’re very happy with the way our bears’ adventures are unfolding. All feedback is welcome!

What delectation and delights do we have lined up for you in June? Two brand new Warriors titles launch on June 9th, bang on time for summer vacation reading. Find out how each part of the Warrior Code was created in the latest Special Edition, Code of the Clans, which reveals more glimpses of life in the forest before a certain kittypet named Rusty arrived. There are some surprises in store – as well as a big hint about what lies behind Tigerstar's frantic, and often fatal, ambition.

On the same day, the final part of the Tigerstar and Sasha Manga Trilogy comes out. Sasha wants her kits to have the happiest – and safest – lives. But is what’s best for them, best for her, too?

Next month I’ll be talking more about what I think is the hottest release of the year: Bluestar's Prophecy, a journey back in time to the birth of one of the most influential leaders of ThunderClan, and the cat who was responsible for inviting Rusty to move to the forest and start the very first Warriors adventure. This book is amazing (I can say that when I’m not solely responsible for it!), and I’m already looking forward to hearing what you think about the revelations. Also in July, the paperback edition of Power of Three #4: Eclipse comes out, so if you missed the hardcover launch, here’s another chance to own a copy of this haunting episode in the Clans’ history.

This month’s Fascinating Fact has a financial theme. According to my sources (okay, the internet), more money is printed every day for the board game Monopoly than for the US Treasury. Hmmm, maybe we should be allowed to shop for real with Monopoly money?

With love and good wishes,
Erin x

1327930 one for may

Hi everyone,

I'm back! Yep, one more tour survived, a few thousand more books signed (truly, is there a copy of Sunrise that doesn't have my tiny purple handwriting inside? J), and several dozen tasty home-baked cookies consumed in hotel rooms across the country. Huge, huge thank yous to everyone who turned out for an event! Each event has its own unique atmosphere and volume level: Books & Books in Miami was serene and full of interesting questions (and some very useful information about the difference between the US House of Representatives and the US Senate, which is something I've wondered about for a while); Barnes & Noble in Frisco, TX, was packed to the rafters but managed to produce the most orderly large-scale signing line I've ever seen; and the crowd at Naperville, IL, left my ears ringing all night with their cheers and hoots when I first appeared. You're all really rather fabulous, did you know?

If you'd like to catch up with my latest adventures on tour, or came to an event and want to find out if you earned a Special Purr, check out my diary at www.warriorcats.com. I post daily blogs on all my tours, so you don't need to feel like you're missing out on the cat-and bear-themed mayhem if I don't come close enough to meet you in person.

Do you have your copy of Seekers #3: Smoke Mountain yet? It launched on May 12th, and should be available in bookstores near you right NOW. I can't believe we're halfway through the series already! Actually, I can, because we're working on Seekers #5: Fire in the Sky at the moment, but it still seems not so long ago that we first started talking about branching away from cats. In Smoke Mountain, Toklo, Kallik, Lusa, and Ujurak set out on the first part of their shared journey and find themselves on the exact route that a dying bear warned them not to take – through mountains echoing with legends of bear-eating giants and fire beneath the ground. Well, you didn't think I was going to make it easy for them, did you? J

The next two Warriors titles come out early in June, so there's not long to wait for all of you who've already finished Sunrise (and by the third day of my tour, that seemed to be pretty much 50% of the crowd!). The new Special Edition, Code of the Clans, reveals how each part of the warrior code came to be, with glimpses of life before the first series in all FIVE of the Clans. We love visiting Warriors prehistory and creating a back story for the modern Clans we know so well, not least because it allows us to make the world of the cats even more complex and closely woven. If you read Code closely, you'll even find out what made Tigerstar burn with deadly ambition (and there'll be more about that in Bluestar’s Prophecy which launches later this summer).

June also sees the arrival of the final part of the Tigerstar and Sasha's manga trilogy. A tragic accident forces Sasha to make a heartbreaking decision about the future of her kits – but will the Clans accept them if they know who their father was?

Summer is a'comin', which can mean only one thing: not pool parties or barbecues, but the return of Reading Warriors! You'll find all the details at the official website www.readingwarriors.com, including how to sign up to log your progress from kit to medicine cat or even leader, and lots of ideas about helping your local community, from reading aloud to young children to tidying an elderly person’s backyard. The more books you read, the faster you'll progress through the ranks.

And there's more! The websites are bonus-tastic this month, with new downloadables and an Adventure Pack Sweepstakes on the Seekers minisite, www.seekerbears.com, and a brand new, fully interactive online game: the Warriors Hunting Game on www.warriorcats.com. Now is your chance to put into practice everything you’ve learned from reading about the Clan cats stalking through trees, flicking fish out of the river, chasing rabbits across the moor, and springing from the shadows onto a helpless piece of future fresh-kill. Choose your cat, then hunt prey in the four different territories to feed your fellow warriors.

So much to do, so much to talk about, there's barely time for a Fact of the Month. But it's a good one…. Did you know that the only two living creatures that can develop leprosy are humans and armadillos? I'm not sure why I find that fact so utterly fascinating, but I've been storing it up for ages, waiting for the Big Reveal so you can share my enthusiasm. Hmmm, maybe just me, then...?

Take care, enjoy the last days of the school year, and remember that reading outside in the fresh air almost counts as exercise. J

With love and good wishes,
Erin x

Seekers #3: Smoke Mountain

The Last Great Wilderness . . .

There is a place where bears can live in peace, where there is sea-ice all year, where the forests are full of prey, where flat-faces never go. Polar bears Kallik and Taqqiq, black bear Lusa, grizzly Toklo, and the shape-shifting cub Ujurak believe that this fabled bear paradise must be the destination of their quest. But the path they follow is dangerous.

The burning Smoke Mountains are more treacherous than anything the bears have faced before, and tensions run high as they encounter obstacle after obstacle. A rushing river and hostile flat-faces separate them from their goal, and a bear is pushed to the brink of death. Signs and omens point in different directions, and the bears, though traveling together, must each follow his or her own star . . . causing one bear to leave the group forever.

But as the others travel on, they soon learn that it will take all their strength and determination to reach their destination. And, if they reach it at last, they may learn that what they thought was their quest's end is in fact a new beginning. . . .

1. Firestar has 6 or so lives left. So Hollyleaf would have to kill him 6 times, over and over again, for him to die. Don't you think someone would have stopped her before she got to 6 times, or she would realize what she was doing before the 6th time?

2. This is Hollyleaf we're talking about. Hollyleaf, who follows the warrior code more strictly than anyone else we've ever known. And the warrior code CLEARLY STATES that you're not allowed to kill anyone, EVER, unless in battle accidentally. So Hollyleaf DEFINITELY won't go against the warrior code which she believes in so strongly.

1327930 here's the one for April

AuthorTracker :: Erin Hunter

Hi everyone,

It's April! Which means that your wait is nearly over for Power of Three #6: Sunrise, which hits the shelves on Tuesday April 21st. Phew, I hear you say. But for me, it seems like hardly any time since we launched Power of Three #1: The Sight, and Jay, Holly and Lion were typical carefree kits with nothing more pressing to do than annoy elders and bait foxes. They’ve come a long way since then... This series was harder than most to end because it meant saying goodbye to a major character (gasp!) as well as resolving some questions that have been hanging on for answers since the very start of the series. We've developed quite a taste for keeping you in suspense, bwa-ha-ha! I started Omen of the Stars thinking maybe we wouldn’t be so mysterious this time, but it's proving hard to resist. :)

April also means it's time for the Spring Tour! I’ll be visiting as many cities as is humanly possible between April 21st (when Sunrise comes out) and April 29th, so please come and see me if you can. My full itinerary can be found on www.warriorcats.com/ , together with my daily diary once I'm on the road. If you catch my attention at an event, you’ll get a mention plus a "Special Purr," with extra credit given to artwork, T-shirts, and home-baked gifts. :) As always, I can't wait to hear what you all think of what we've done with our cats and bears - but don't expect me to tell you what comes next. I can be as close-lipped as a clam!

As Seekers #3: Smoke Mountain goes on sale May 12th (so soon, yippee!), now would be a good time to place a pre-order online or with your local bookstore. There may be a stampede on publication day! Thanks to you, Seekers #2: Great Bear Lake stayed in the top ten on the New York Times Bestseller List for five weeks. Astonishing! Thank you so much. We're thrilled at how much you love the new furry characters. We set out to write something that felt completely different than Warriors, with endless scenery, far-reaching environmental issues and a much smaller cast list. We achieved all of those things, I think, but we've also been surprised by how much the two series have in common: a sense of the importance of friendship, unity and respect; and the fact that the biggest obstacles can be overcome with enough sturdiness of spirit and the certainty that this is the right thing to do. Firestar lives in the shape of bears! Well, not quite, but both series have started to echo each other in the most subtle ways, which is both comforting and satisfying for everyone involved in their creation.

The fascinating fact that I unearthed this month has nothing to do with bears or cats, but instead concerns Twolegs (or flatfaces). Did you know that everyone has a unique tongue-print, just as we have individual fingerprints? How strange is that? So, if you're planning on committing any crimes, don’t lick anything...

Oh, and thank you to everyone who was concerned about my knee injury, from falling downstairs in my slippers. It's completely better now, and I can even wear heels again, so you’ll have to run fast to keep up with me when I'm on tour! :)

See you soon!

With love and good wishes,
Erin x

1327930 I think this is the one for march

AuthorTracker :: Erin Hunter

Hi everyone,

Brace yourselves for the Best Ever Solution to the worldwide economic problems: FREE BOOKS! Well, one book in particular: Power of Three #1: The Sight, which will be fully available online on www.warriorcats.com later this month. Total yays to the fabulous folks at HarperCollins for giving you (and maybe some friends who don’t yet realize how marvellous Warriors is?) the chance to read an entire book without having to break into your allowance. I wonder if they have a policy for free chocolate chip cookies? :)

If this is your first dip into Power of Three, you’ll be pleased to know that the paperback edition of Power of Three #3: Outcast will be available on March 24th and Power of Three #2: Dark River is already available in paperback. I’m fully immersed in writing the fourth series, Omen of the Stars, so Power of Three feels like a looooong time ago, but it’s still my favorite of the three series. We tried a lot of new things to keep the books feeling fresh and lively (for us as well as you!), such as making one of the lead characters blind, and exploring deeper in to the history of the Clans. I must confess that I’d always had some pretty firm ideas about how the Clans in the forest started, but during Power of Three I realized that their origins were much more mysterious than I first thought, and stretched even farther back than a chance meeting of some like-minded feral cats.

The third series will draw to a magnificent close when Power of Three #6: Sunrise launches on April 21st. Some - but maybe not all - of the questions raised during the previous books will be answered, and there is a shock in store regarding one very popular character. I’ll be visiting several cities across the US to talk about Sunrise, and hear what you think of the Big Surprise; keep checking www.warriorcats.com for news of my schedule. Please come and see me if you can!

While you’re on the website, don’t forget to visit the poll for the Warriors Super Edition 2010. Without making any firm promises, we’d love to know which Clan you’d like to see featured in one of the longer books. You can vote as many times as you like for your favorite Clan. To all those devoted Crookedstar supporters who voted for him in the Ultimate Clan Leader Election, now’s your chance to have a whole book focussed on RiverClan!

Finally, I learned something very important this month: Do not run downstairs while wearing slippers. I reached the bottom a lot more quickly than I intended, and have injured my knee enough to stop me from horse-riding and running around, but not enough to win lots of sympathy from my family. Sigh. I have also learned that milk chocolate flavoured with a hint of nutmeg is one of the most delicious creations in the world of confectionery. Maybe I should bring some on tour with me?

See you in April!

With love and good wishes,
Erin x

909992 OMG!! I'm excited for Bluestar's Prophecy and also Sunrise!! OMG!! XD

1327930 This is the Author Tracker for February and it is cool.

Hi everyone,

Hands (paws) up if you received a Valentine’s card? Apparently your best chance of receiving one is to become a teacher: Out of the ONE BILLION Valentine’s cards sent around the world, 650 MILLION are given to schoolteachers. Wow. They must need pretty big desks to display them all. :)

And that, my friends, is the Fascinating Fact for February.

The Erins have spent the month holed up, finishing Omen of the Stars #1: The Fourth Apprentice (yay, beavers!), Seekers #4: The Last Wilderness, and the Warriors Super Edition for 2009, Bluestar’s Prophecy. Which was seriously fun to work on, but something of a nightmare when it came to sorting out recent Clan history, including the dreaded family trees... One of the best parts was observing Tigerstar as a kit. Would you have guessed he was the runt of his litter, and nearly didn’t make it?

Now that we’ve brought ThunderClan up to date, our thoughts are turning to the Warriors Super Edition for Fall 2010. I know, it seems like forever away, but we need to get storylining now! And, in another of our famous website polls, we’d love to know which Clan you think should be featured. If you go to www.warriorcats.com, you’ll find a list of the possible Clans, and the chance to vote as many times as you like for your preferred choice. We can’t make any promises, but we love knowing your opinions and we really listen!

For example, you’ll notice that there’s very little romance in Warriors #1: Into the Wild. That’s because we were far more interested in Clan politics, rivalry and revenge. But we quickly spotted that a lot of online reviews and comments talked about the hints of romance between Firepaw and Spottedleaf, and even some of the older, less central characters. Aha! The readers want romance! And lo and behold, we gave you Graystripe and Silverstream, the Romeo and Juliet of the Clans, with their perfect love that was doomed to end in tragedy…

Well, you didn’t specify that you wanted happy endings... :)

If you missed last month’s AuthorTracker, you might not know that Seekers #2: Great Bear Lake is now available in stores and online. The paperback edition of Seekers #1: The Quest Begins is also on sale, for those of you who need to catch up with the opening book to the series. Go to www.seekerbears.com to Browse Inside both titles, and find stacks of interesting and entertaining stuff about this series, from quizzes to an exclusive e-card.

The next brand new title to go on sale will be Power of Three #6: Sunrise, which hits the stores on April 20th. Lots of news about that to follow, but in the meantime, look out for the paperback edition of Power of Three #3: Outcast. In this book, Jaypaw, Lionpaw and Hollypaw travel to the mountains to help the Tribe of Rushing Water – and discover that their destiny reaches farther than any of them ever imagined.

Enjoy the first hints of newleaf, folks. Talk to you again next month!

With love and good wishes,

Erin x
