86285 This show is good. I like the friendships between the cast. And NPH (Neil Patrick Harris) is great in this show. Hilarious! I like the episode that they ended with him acting like Doggie Houser. Funny. Plus I love how they have you always holding out to see who the mother is!

1130679 I recently started watching this show. I saw bits and pieces before, thought it was funny but didn't think the "how I met your mother" concept would last.

Its really grown on me now. I love the relationship the friends have. REal fun.

1759394 The current state of comedies on television is a sad affair. "How I Met Your Mother" makes me laugh and the relationships warm my heart! I say "Hurray" for one of the last truly funny comedies!

message 5: by Angie (new)

86285 I agree Leshawn. There are hardly any comedies anymore. The only ones are on Monday night it seems.

message 6: by Leshawn (new)

1759394 Good Evening Angie,
Any suggestions of comedies that you like?
Le Shawn

86285 Well I like How I met your mother, the simpsons, king of the hill, big bag theory, two and half men, Ugly Betty (I think that's a comedy), america's funniest home videos, well I guess that's enough for now. It's all I can think of off the top of my head. What about you?

message 8: by Leshawn (new)

1759394 Hi Angie,
Currently on television, I like "The New Adventures of Old Christine", "'Til Death" (currently on hiatus), "30 Rock" and "Samantha Who?". Most of the comedies I watch, I watch on DVD (including "How I Met Your Mother") because my schedule makes it difficult to keep up with shows on the primetime schedule.

message 10: by Roxy (new)

1130679 New Adventures of Old Christine....that's another one that has grown on me.

Faith, I know I saw the Christmas episode but am totally blanking at the moment. Refresh my memory.

1130679 Funny episode. I don't like "Speidi" (AKA Spenser & Heidi Pratt) but their cameo was hysterical!!

message 14: by Brandie (new)

1132341 I agree, Roxy. I watched it and thought it was pretty hilarious!

message 15: by Roxy (new)

1130679 I just saw Neil Patrick Harris on Sesame Street!

message 16: by Angie (new)

86285 I LOVE NPH!

message 17: by Allen (new)

623239 HOLY CRAP!? I can't believe I missed the xmas ep!

Just watched Dr. Horrible earlier this week, and it was great.

message 18: by Faith (new)

652801 sorry roxy i didn't mean to take so long to respond to your question....i just hadn't been on in awhile.....

the christmas episode! it is when barney sings about having sex with ted's sister. he sings his words to christmas songs....pulling down her pants...yanking off my own...underneath the misteltoe i'll make your sister moan...oh.........the words are sung to jingle bells jingle bells jingle all the way!

message 19: by Roxy (new)

1130679 Faith - that is ok, forgot I asked a question. I DO remember the Christmas episode now. SO funny!!

message 20: by Roxy (new)

1130679 schwa?! A whole episode about Barney creating a video resume for Robin and we don't get to see it?!? Whats the deal?

message 21: by Faith (new)

652801 i was watching the rerun this last monday and i totally forgot about 80 year old barnie! FREAKING HILARIOUS! i wander if anyone actually had the guts to try something like that!

message 22: by Roxy (new)

1130679 Gotta wonder where the storyline comes from. ;-)

message 23: by Faith (new)

652801 this weeks was soooo funny! when lily asked barney to give the pants to marshall and barney thought lily was offering him sex! the expression on barneys face was classic! first surprise, little fear, confusion then he smiles and says okay! it was so funny! i watched it over and over again!

message 24: by Angie (new)

86285 Barnie is the best... he makes the show!

message 25: by Roxy (new)

1130679 Is Allison H. pregnant?

message 26: by Faith (new)

652801 yes but lily the character isn't so they have been hiding it! i thought they have done a great job hiding it! i didn't even know until i saw her on an interview with ellen. this episode i noticed but i thought maybe that was becuase i was looking for it.

message 27: by Roxy (new)

1130679 She must have really jus started showing because I didn't not notice it prior to this episode either but it was obvious once I saw it.

message 28: by Angie (last edited Mar 18, 2009 07:59AM) (new)

86285 Both main characters are pregnant in real life. Robin and Lily!

message 29: by Roxy (new)

1130679 I didn't realize the acress who plays Robin is also pregnant. Those fellas are in for a fun ride....two women on the set prego at the same time!

message 30: by Roxy (new)

1130679 I love the whole Murtaugh list concept! I especially love Gentlemen's Agreement ritual.

message 31: by Angie (new)

86285 I read that whoever the mother of the kids is may not be the one who hooks up with Ted. If you notice he never calls the kids his he just says how he met their mother. So Robin and Ted may end up together afterall.

message 32: by Roxy (new)

1130679 Ooo...interesting, Angie.

message 33: by Kourtney (new)

1479141 That is really interesting! Now I need to go watch all of the episdoes with that in mind!!!

message 34: by Faith (new)

652801 i don't know angie...i think that is a cool idea but in the episode where ted goes to that club with barney and acts like a totally a*#, the one where marshall points out to ted what a jerk he was being. ted said that there mother was at that club and a good thing he didn't meet her that night because she wouldn't have liked him. and they alluded to the fact that the "mother" had a big bright yellow umbrella that she left, that ted took the next day...i wrote all that to say this....i think robin was out of town that night. i can't remember where she was but i don't remember seeing her in the episode. but that was awhile ago and maybe it was her with the yellow umbrella. but i don't think so...i feel like we knew where she was that night i just can't remember.

Well, we know for sure that Robin isn't the mother. In the very first episode, Ted said "and that's how I met your Aunt Robin." And the producers have confirmed that.

I think what Angie was implying was that Ted might not actually be "the father". He might be talking to someone else's kids and telling them how he met their mother.
I personally don't think that's the case. I'd have to go back and re-watch the episodes, but I think they do confirm that Ted's their father. I think the kids on the couch call him Dad or something at some point. I could be wrong, but I for one would be really irritated if it turned out he was talking to someone else's kids. That would seem like a major cop out to me, and I'm pretty sure there would be a big backlash.

message 36: by Roxy (new)

1130679 I think future-Ted has refered to all the friens as Aunt Robin, Uncle Barney and so on. That means that the kids are not any of the friends and presumably Ted's.

I don't watch religiously, am trying to know that I realize how much I like the show, but isn't about time they get Ted on the track to meet "the mother"?

message 37: by Faith (new)

652801 i thought robin was called aunt robin after they broke up but i couldn't remember. plus they really seem to be pushing the robin/barney thing. so i think that will go somewhere eventually.

i actually don't care if i ever find out who the mother is. i just love that barney is back and i love to watch the show! i was so sad when barney and ted weren't friends because i think barney is HILARIOUS! and i missed him!

message 38: by Melissa (new)

325271 My two cents comes from my dvr - it describes the show as "a man named Ted tells his children how he met their mother". I have always assumed they were his kids he was talking to.

message 39: by Angie (new)

86285 Here is a neat website about the mother:
http://www.beawesomeinstead.com/televisi...

message 40: by Nichole (new)

74998 Wow, thanks for that Angie. I just wasted a LOT of time at work reading the article and all of the discussion thread. I'll just say there are some people out there that are REALLY reaching... but there are some interesting theories out there.
But I honestly don't think the producers ever intended for this to be overly complex. I really think they're just telling the story of how Ted met his wife. Nothing more, nothing less, and it's not Robin.

820833 My daughter pointed out that we do know that Ted IS the father of the kids to whom he is speaking because of the wedding episode where he is jilted at the altar. He says if he it hadn't happened they might look differently, and you see the kids with blond hair and the Mom walks in where they are talking.

message 42: by Nichole (new)

74998 Becca wrote: "My daughter pointed out that we do know that Ted IS the father of the kids to whom he is speaking because of the wedding episode where he is jilted at the altar. He says if he it hadn't happened th..."

True. There are also a handful of instances where the kids have actually called him Dad.

message 43: by Kourtney (new)

1479141 I went back and watched season 1 and sure enough they call him "dad" - but that would have been a neat theory.

message 44: by Angie (new)

86285 What is crazy is that Bob Saget is the voice of the dad... like Ted is still going through puberty and his voice will change!

message 45: by Becca (new)

820833 LOL! Angie, you are so right!

message 46: by Roxy (new)

1130679 I didn't realize Bob Saget is the voice of middle-aged Ted.

message 47: by Roxy (new)

1130679 Ah-ha! "Mother" is revealed! YAY!! Though I have a question....I have not been watching HIMYM since the begining. Is she someone from the past or someone completely new to Ted?

message 48: by Faith (new)

652801 she is the one he was engaged to and they were going to get married but she left him at the alter....but.....she can't be the mom. because he even said she wasn't because then the kids would be blondes....they showed that she isn't the mom. i am guessing she is the reason ted meets the mom though.

message 49: by Roxy (new)

1130679 well just because mom is blond doesn't mean kids would be. Ted is not. How did they show she isn't the mom?

message 50: by Faith (new)

652801 just after they showed her walk out on him at their wedding...they showed the kids and they were blond and he said so that is how i met your mother and she came into the picture and pulled the kids away talking about how long winded their father was.

then the narrator said that she wasn't there mom and it went back to the dark head kids.
