Opening our 2nd year of reading challenges with a favorite.

The challenge is to read one book for each popular paranormal creature/s listed below:

1. vampires
(undead, different species, spawned by aliens, even sparkly ones all accepted)

2. werewolves
(most popular of all weres, our lupine faves deserved their own separate category)

3. shifters
(transforms to any kind of animal except for wolves...see category 2)

4. gods/goddesses/immortals
(doesn’t matter what mythology inspired them: Greek, Roman, Norse, etc)

5. demons/angels
(demons: whether good or bad; angels: fallen or not, winged or not: any other denizen of either heavenly or hellish persuasion)

6. witches/warlocks/sorcerers/mages
(all of the aformentioned plus any practitioners of magic)

7. fae/fairies
(elves, seelie/unseelie, etc)

8. aliens/space cowboys/space adventurers/space mercenaries
(or any story set in space)

9. psychics/ghosts/humans with paranormal abilities
(telekinesis, mind reading, time travel, etc)

10. hunters/warriors/slayers/guardians
(men or women who live to fight and/or protect)

As agreed upon, we have moved to 10 books for the year 2010.

Duration: January 1, 2010 - January 31, 2010

You can post your list anytime you like, but no reading until the 1st of January.

Jaime, have you tried any of Victoria Laurie's novels? She has two series that are a bit "lighter" in tone - The Psychic Eye Mysteries and The Ghost Hunter Mysteries. They're mostly mysteries, but have a little romance.

Numerous times. But you did give me an idea. I may use "A touch of Dead" for that spot. They are short stories but there are enough of them not to make me feel like I am skimping :)

Martina wrote: Jaime, have you tried any of Victoria Laurie's novels? She has two series that are a bit "lighter" in tone - The Psychic Eye Mysteries and The Ghost Hunter Mysteries. They're mostly mysteries, but have a little romance.

No I havent. I will have to look into those. I am always looking for good series sugestions!

I am worried about one of the books that I have chosen. I putStorm Born as my number 8 book because it mentioned mercenaries. If anyone has read the book can you tell me if I put it in the wrong catagory?

message 36: by Melissa (last edited Dec 23, 2009 06:28AM) (new)

Melissa Storm Born is certainly fae, but not so much "mercenaries".

For #8, you can try Ann Aguirre. It's sci fi, with adventure and romance and includes everything in that category heading. The first book is Grimspace.

message 37: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (LauraLulu) Jaime, I'm not understanding #8, so I can't tell you for sure--I am taking it to mean "aliens/space cowboys, space mercenaries, space adventurers" and not your run of the mill mercenaries & adventurers, because that doesn't really fit the alien/space theme, kwim? Hopefully someone else will clarify. :)

If it is a space theme, Storm Born doesn't fit, but if it's any mercenary or adventurer, Eugenie is a mercenary in that book.

Steph--the 2 main characters in Caressed by Ice are a psy and a werewolf. I'm sure there are other side characters who are leopard shifters since they are throughout the series, but I don't remember any playing more than a bit role in that book--anyone else?

I was lots of help, huh? :)

message 38: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (LauraLulu) Melissa--I was thinking the same thing about Storm Born, but when I went back and read the description of the book I remembered that in the beginning Eugenie worked for hire as someone who banished demons, ghosts & such--it actually used the word mercenary in the synopsis. :)

But that's only if the category allows any mercenary, if it's a space theme, the book doesn't fit.

Not necessarily. True, there are many books with multiple type of paranormal creatures in it, so its your choice to which category you want to put it in.

Fair enough?

I'm looking through my TBR and Fallen by Lauren Kate looks good but the blurb isn't very specific - which category would this fit in?"

I am not sure if your question got answered, Nichole, but it would definately be angels (I think it still counts as angels if they are fallen ones! lol!). A friend of mine has read it and she described it as being about fallen angels.

Nichole (Dirrty H) (DirtyH) Thanks, Carla! I think I already picked something else for that category so I may have to push it to next month. But I love fallen angels...

I love Dara Joy's books but absolutely hate the covers. Her books are funny and romantic. I think you're really going to like them.

I'm sure there are other side characters who are leopard shifters since they are throughout the series, but I don't remember any playing more than a bit role in that book--anyone else?"

I've read the 1st two book and should'a remembered about the leopard shifter "clan" don't know what I was thinking. I would guess that book fits the category ok, yah?
