26. The Wordy Shipmates by Sarah Vowell
Phew, just passed the halfway mark. I'm almost finished with another that I'm aiming to complete by the end of the year. I want to start the new year with a new list.
23. Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Not the best choice when you're trying to read a certain number of books in a certain time frame. But I'd never read it before so thought I'd give it a try. I really liked it!
Now on to shorter, lighter reads for a while.
22. Trespass by Valerie Marin
The story was entertaining enough and it was a quick read. I found the characters a bit flat, though.
21. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
This was a re-read for me. I think I liked it even more now than I did when I first read it in college.
12. Dark Star Safari by Paul TherouxIt took me a month to read this! At this rate I'll barely make it to 25.
It was a great book though. Excellent travelogue of an African adventure. Gave me some ideas of what to do (and not do) while I'm in Africa.
11. Girls in Pants by Ann BrasharesThis was easy train reading. I didn't read as much on my vacation as I'd hoped, but I met my minimum of finishing one book (Gorillas) completely reading one book (Girls in Pants) and starting a new book (Dark Star Safari).
10. Gorillas in the Mist by Dian FosseyThis was amazing. I don't remember much of the movie and I have to rewatch it now. I'm moving to East Africa in a few months and plan to visit the park in Rwanda to see the gorillas as soon as I have the opportunity.
9. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur GoldenThis was entertaining, but not as sensual and compelling as the hype made it seem. I gave the movie 3 stars for the same reason.
8. Cotton: The Biography of a Revolutionary Fiber by Stephen YafaI plan on writing a review of this later. I was so bored by the end I have to distance myself from it for a bit.
6. Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar NafisiI forgot that I read this one, too. It sure feels like I've read a lot more than 6 books this year.
I really enjoyed Last King of Scotland. I liked the movie a lot, too, and the book is different enough to keep the story interesting and suspenseful.Yup, I'm a celiac! Hello!
Hi Stephanie! What did you think about The Last King of Scotland? Would you recommend it?And on a completely unrelated side note: I noticed on your profile that you are interested in gluten-free things...if you are a fellow Celiac, hello!! :)
1. From Bloodshed to Hope in Burundi by Robert Krueger
2. Daisy Miller by Henry James
3. The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemmingway
4. The Last King of Scotland by Giles Foden
5. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
What a great challenge!
