Have to agree on this. The story of Daisy and the box of coloured condoms was hilarious, but rousing.
I can't believe that only one other person has mentioned Amy Lane's Little Goddess series. They are so good that I reread the every few months.I have to put the in a category of their own (though they are very UF/PNR).
They have made me laugh, sob and cry in addition to needin a cold shower.
The writer has a very unique style that I have not found elsewhere. It is told first person in a way that is pulls you into each charactor's head space. I would say that it is a stream-of-conscious method.
The worldbuilding is rich
The characters are multi-dimensional
It is rich in plot
There are life lessons
There is finding your inner strenght and learning your weaknesses
There is love and loss and love continued
There are Fae, Werefolk and Vampires
There is sex- lots of it that ADDS to the STORY :)
The sex scenes are written in a very unique way that I don't have the skill to explain. They are graphic without being crude-even though the launguage can be. I think that it is the stream-of-consciousness that I mentioned. There is an intense almost poetic flavor to them. They are not repetitive. There are M/F M/F/M, M/M, M/M/F and a few other combos.
The author is self-published. The only complaint I've encountered is the overuse of the comma BUT I think that the way she uses the adds to her writing style.
I hope you check them out. Vulnerable is the first in the series
Did I mention that she is my favorite? I'm only sorry that I'm not enough of a writer for this recommendation to do her justice.

Maybe it's all the sex that's killing the poor old people?
LOL. Well, it's just that it's distracting. We're trying to figure out what's killing the poor people in the city and here these two are consumed with jumping each other. LOL. Can we get back to the business at hand? xD
I tried to read Witch Fire recently, which I've heard a lot about. Bored me. But I'm reading Ghostland right now, and I can tell you Jory Strong is very strong in the spice area, LOL, although there is maybe too much of it. o.O

Love Morgan Hawke's Interstellar Discipline series. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Have you read Lone Star yet? So good.
At the moment the night huntress series is getting my vote::i've read chapter 32 out of context::Mmmmmm::does it for me::Bones::what more is there to say?::can melt mine any day ha Ha::
Mainstream - JR Ward, Karen Marie MonigErotic - Morgan Hawke, Victorious Star (if you can handle it-its a bit extreme), Kate Douglas for her group scenes and same-sex scenes (unfortunately, the m/f scenes seem repeated), I'm into Elizabeth Amber right now, the Lords of Satyr series-very sexy!
Yeah, I've heard that about EF too. I think the Witch books are loosely connected, but I understand your dilemma. You take what you can get, LOL. I think you'll still enjoy them.

ideally i would've chosen the first in the series::but this is going to be a library borrow::and unfort. as nearly always they only have the second and third books available:(::so i'm hoping it doesn't rely to heavily on having read the first book::
EF is erotica::but::it gets really good ratings and reviews ....so i'm tempted::but i'm def going to read CtC as that seems to have found it way to me::
Yz, I checked their site bios, and I think you're right. I didn't post their GR profs, but I can correct them. Must've been a mix-up.
Adrienne, I think the first title is erotica, the second book (Claiming the Courtesan) I liked- dark, pretty well-written, and does have a full plot even though much of the scenes take place in the bedroom, LOL. The last book is the second in a series, pretty spicy from what I've heard. ;)
there are lots if interesting suggestions:: i thought these all looked promising:: Everything Forbidden::Claiming the Courtesan::and Witch Blood:: has anyone read them ::have any opinions about them?::
new_user wrote: I think Sylvia Day is aka Susan Johnson, LOL..."
I was floored by that statement, so I checked GR and they have Sylvia Day's bio on Susan Johnson's page. So I individually googled each author and visited their respective homepage. Susan Johnson has only written one book under a different name, Jill Barkin.
Furthermore, Sylvia Day is a Kensington-Brava author whose career started like only 3-4 years ago while Johnson's first book, Seized by Love, was first published 1993.
So they can't be the same person..LOL
I mean i like both of their styles but I don't really see any similarities..LOL..but I can be wrong.
Glad to help, Lauren! I hope you enjoy them, they're some of my favorites!
Thanks for the recs, Yz. I have Bernard on TBR because I heard she was spicy, LOL. I'll bump her up. :D I think Sylvia Day is aka Susan Johnson, LOL.
To piggybank on new_user recommendation on sexy/racy historicals, I would add Sylvia Day. I've read two books of hers, and I just adore them. I think she also has a few PNR books.
Another one that is steamy is Renee Bernard. Typical romance historicals but very edgy.
Of course, my first erotic historical writer is Susan Johnson. Her earlier works are just so good, especially her Bradddock/Black series and the Kuzan series.
Sure, UM. If you like your historicals with a side of paranormal, I recommend the Drakon series by Shana Abé, starting with The Smoke Thief (this is probably the only such series I read; the author really commits to the paranormal so it's not just a side or a device, unlike many historical authors; it's used in almost a modern way). Romantic, lyrically written, and a little edgy. Not gothic. Heroes are strong regency earls who are also shifters.
As for non-paranormal regency romance, Lisa Kleypas and Christina Dodd also write spicy scenes with strong men. Dodd is a little more fanciful and her books seem shorter for whatever reason, Kleypas is a little more mature and plausible. Some suggestions for starters: Again The Magic, Stranger in My Arms, & Worth Any Price from Kleypas. From Christina Dodd, start off with Rules of Attraction and One Kiss From You. If you dislike edgy/devilish heroes, I'll have to revise those, LOL.
Susan Johnson is on my TBR list, I've heard a lot about hers. :D I've heard about Stephanie Laurens too, but I haven't gotten a chance to check her out. These are spicier than a lot of historicals though. :)

Can you give the titles?
Adrienne, do you like historical novels? There are some historicals that definitely fall under smoldering and creative with little to no graphic language. It takes talent, LOL. Some of them are written in a more modern way, etc.
Hi Lori::i guess i mean graphic sexual terms (and why the hell i did'nt say what i meant in the first place god only knows LOL)::anyway i find after a while for me it all gets a bit blah blah blah boring and i kind of loose interst::fine if it's just something short and i'm in the mood for that kind of thing (graphic sexual terms )::but sometimes i just fancy reading something hot:: smoldering::and steamy::with extras thrown in::and a bit more racy than your average romance of any genre::does that make any sense:)
Adrienne wrote: "ok::what if you want to read something hot::verging on erotic::but:: without the language?::"I'm not sure what you mean by "language". Swear words or graphic sexual terms? I read a lot of erotica, mostly M/M at the moment and everything I read has very graphic language as well. They just seem to go hand and hand. I've never read any of the Harlequin Spice books but they might not be as graphic as books published by some of the other publishers.
Lauren – You summed me up perfectly. I also love Lara Adrian. But I would leave Ward and Cole as #1 and #2.
geesh reading all these suggestions has really put by TBR out of control. I have to say I really love Ward's BDB series. V in the bathroom with Jane.... OMG! Kresely Cole is my next choice loved A Hunger like no other. Then Kenyon and Ione are my third.
I always get a kick out LKH and how much juice her writing has. I mean, its like bringing up abortion at a mixed political forum. Really strong opinions and beliefs.
I am a fan, although I do see some flaws in her writing, It is so compelling to me--like Crack as was mentioned before.
As far as best erotica, I know I have read some good stuff, but I think I would go with Sunny and LKH and one book I found strangely erotic was the series Lilith's Brood by Octavia Bultler. I know I have read others that really were good but those are recent reads so they pop to mind.

Oh my, I agree with you 100%! That scene was... smokin' hot!
I want to say thanks to all who nominated my novels. :-) Every author that you all listed are awesome spicy authors who write so well, and I'm honored to be included in the ranks. Have a great week!

And I would have to agree and say that, even more than hot sex, I think a story needs a good, strong plot, well written and with characters I can root for.
I definitely agree with you, Sarah. If the chemistry between the characters is good, if you really feel it, then the sex scene itself doesn't really matter all that much. I love a great sex scene, but if I'm reading a book where I'm truly buying the romance, it could have zero sex and I wouldn't miss it (i.e. the Twilight series.)
However, I do think that Frost's scenes are hot, for that very reason. Cat and Bones have zing to spare.
Whereas with Cole - I agree that she does sexy well, but what makes her stand out for me (she is one of my favorites) is her creative story telling and the amount of fun she's able to infuse her stories with. I like her books because they take me on a great ride. But yes, she does belong in this thread for writing a good sex scene.
Some authors detailed raunchy sex scenes can be totally boring while other authors can write a simple kiss that has me fanning myself. For me, it's all about the chemestry of the characters and the writing of the scene, not necessarily how dirty or graphic it gets (although that is a factor as well :P).
I don't think Frost's sex scenes were that great. She's going for really hot, but for me they aren't as steamy as she's trying to make them. It's something in the writing. They just don't sizzle for me.
Now, I think Kresley Cole does some really titillating sex scenes. She's not one of my favorite authors, but she sure can steam up the pages.
Some other authors I'd put in the best "sexy writing" category:
Cherry Adair
Lisa Kleypas
Laura Kinsale
Karen Robards
Lisa Valdez
"Legendary" eh? LOL I can imagine why! It'll certainly be one of the more memorable book scenes for me (not just sex scenes...but any book scene! lol)

Or maybe I'm just reading so much gay erotica lately the vanilla stuff doesn't even register :)
No, don't worry, there are a few sex scenes in book 3. Just nothing that stands out like that scene in book 2. That scene has reached legendary status around here. But there is definitely some sex in book 3. I think there are two... maybe three. Both kind of short, but hot.
Oh nooo, not at all? that sucks! He is yummy indeed, and her whit keeps me coming back for Cat.
I'm gonna read it anyway, and already put the new one on preorder. Very addictive!

That was a very, very HOT scene. I was so disappointed though because I don't think Cat and Bones even have sex in the third book. I kept waiting for it wondering how she was going to top the last one but it didn't happen. Aw...Bones. So yummy.

What was the Emma Holly story? I read it but can't recall which it was.
I liked Holly's Upyr series.
Ok so I finished Fairyville and I loved it! I totally think that Emma Holly writes the best MM scenes I have ever read.It makes me wish yet again that JR Ward would have partnered Butch and V that would have been HAWT!
I picked up the Anthology "Hot Spell" and Emma Holly had a short story. I wasn't too impressed. Can you tell me if her novels are better? I did like the short story by Lora Leigh and plan to pick up her Breed Series.
Huh maybe it was just DA then. Dawn was dealing with a lot of trauma, and the storyline became strongly theological viz the "How could God let this happen to me" line. LL spent quite a lot of time on it in this book. But like I said, it caught me by surprise because there was very little of that in Mercury's War. Not that I mind it, but the leap from that to the hot monkey sex scenes can be a little challenging ;)
