Liz M 20.8 Olympic Dream: The Three Musketeers. d'Artagnan's lifelong dream was to join the King's Musketeers. When he is of age he leaves home for Paris with only a letter of recommendation. On the road to Paris, he foolishly quarrels with another traveler and looses the letter of introduction. He swears vengeance on the mysterious man that insulted him and ruined his chances. Eventually, after about 490 pages of adventures, d'Artagnan is promoted to the Musketeers. He does not duel the mysterious stranger until the epilogue.

35 points (20 task, 5 combo-15.6b & 10.2, 10 jumbo-720 pages).

Harris is a "cozy mystery" author at heart, even if the Sookie books aren't necessarily cozy mysteries themselves. Her first series, which has the character Aurora Teagarten, definitely qualifies. The Sookie books are more bodice-ripper romance than mystery...and yet I read them anyway. My main complaint about the Sookie books is that the mystery is thrown in as an afterthought to justify all the vampire sex.

Cindie Harp | 852 comments I read "Book of a Thousand Days" by Shannon Hall for task 5.6 (I never read her before but I already got another book by her, The Princess Academy, from the library)

This is a multiple finish for me. Too bad my favorite tv show isn't football so I could claim it as a Combo finish for 15.5 (although it's really soccer, not American football).

Krista (kacey14) Completed task 10.10 - Isn't It Romantic by reading Very Valentine by Adriana Trigiani

I usually really enjoy Trigiani's books, but this one was terrible! There was way too much time spent on LONG meaningless scene descriptions and too little time on plot or character development. I didn't really care about any of the characters by the end of the book. 1 star rating on this one. Blech!!

This qualified for combo points since it could have been used for Task 15.7 (Aliteration) and Task 10.4 (Popular book for February 2009)

Read: The Girls from Ames: A Story of Women and Friendship by Jeffrey Zaslow

This book was on the 2009 year list. I gave this one 5 stars. Maybe I'm biased because the girls in this book so closely resembles a group of college friends that I still meet with every year, but I loved this book.

I couldn't find any Style points for it though. (Darn it!) :-)

I also finished listening to the audio book Never Let Me Go for task 15.6 1001 books A. Read one book from the list written between 1910-2009 (1-755 on the list). I'd like to claim +5 styles points for this one as it would also fit task 15.2 Sci-Fi present.

Jayme(the ghost reader) (JaymeILtheghostreader) | 1904 comments I am claiming points for 20.6 Olympic Dream
I chose to read a book about Queen Elizabeth I called "Elizabeth I : The Outcast Who Became England's Queen". I chose to do the book for this one because she faced adversity. She was imprisoned in the Tower by her sister Mary. When she became Queen, no one thought she would make a good ruler. She ruled all by herself and she made England a peaceful prosperous country. Plus, she has a whole time period named after her.
If I can I also like to claim combo points for 10.1 a new author I never read and I think it is 20.3 Royal Wedding by reading a nonfiction book about a monarch.
So 20+5= 25 points.

15.6B LEORA'S TASK 1001 BOOKS, written before 1910.
The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. Sam, I know this should go to extra page points, but I have no idea how many--I read it as an ebook. The page numbers are all over the place, depending on the edition. At the print setting I used (next to smallest) it came in at 1842 pages, so even figuring 1:1 that's 900+ pages. But I'll go along with what you decide.

15.10 GROUP READS:
The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror, Version 2.0 by Christopher Moore. I should get 10 pts for multiple finish. This is not an Either/or, but I did finish all parts of the three books listed for a a complete finish.

Jenny Auer (mom23boys) | 131 comments I finished 10.3 WINNING DECADE by reading The Virgin of Small Plains: A Novel of Suspense which won the Agatha Award for Best Novel in 2007. Sadly, I couldn't come up with any style points for it.

Donna Jo,

Be careful -- some of the "editions" on goodreads have only 28 pages. My paperback copy just over 700 pages. Two things seem to determine whether this book is 500-700 pages or 700-800 pages: smaller pages (such as penguin and signet classics) tended to be just over 700 pages. Larger pages (modern library editions) were just under 700 pages. Then the editions with footnotes, explanatory/supplementary information (Barnes&Noble classics) also tend to be over 700 pages.

I wanted the Modern Library edition, but it didn't quite fit in the "subway reading material pocket" of my shoulder bag, so went width the smaller-page size of a penguin edition.

Donna Jo Atwood | 2698 comments Since I read it on my Sony Reader, I don't know what to count as pages. I counted the time spent reading--about 2 pages on the Reader took as long as a page on a physical book, so I just divided the # of pages by two. It was certainly more than 28 pages. LOL

Jenny Auer (mom23boys) | 131 comments I finished the second part of Science Fiction - Past and Present (past) by reading Fahrenheit 451. This book was published in 1954 and was awarded the retro Hugo Award in 2004. I thought it was OK, a little slow and hard to follow at times. As I'd already claimed points for Catching Fire, I'd like to claim +15 style points for a complete finish +5 combo points as this book also applies to task 20.10. It was featured in an episode of Lost.

20.9a - July's People by Nadine Gordimer: 25 pts. (20 + 5 combo (15.6a 1001 List))
20.9b - Living in Hope and History: Notes from Our Century by Nadine Gordimer: 40 pts. (20 +5 combo (15.7 alliteration) + 15 Complete)

Now that I have claimed points for tasks 20.6, 20.7, 20.8, 20.9, and 10.2, I, hopefully, have earned 25 exclusive finish points. If I have misunderstood this, please let me know so I can rearrange the above claimed tasks...

Most of the main print editions of the book (including Penguin, Oxford, and Modern Library) are between 650 and 750, so I'm thinking 700+ is the appropriate level.

Oh, nothing...I was in a hurry last night and not paying good enough attention.

By the way, since more people are probably going to start claiming Exclusive and Mega Finishes, I thought it would be a good idea to clarify one thing: It doesn't matter what you've read (e.g., YA) for tasks when you claim these two sets of points. It'd just be too much to keep up with otherwise.

Jayme(the ghost reader) (JaymeILtheghostreader) | 1904 comments I will be doing a complete finish soon.

Krista (kacey14) Two new books finished:

10.9 - Cozy Mystery: Snuffed Out by Tim Myers Set in a canlde making shop.
15 pts (10 + 5 Combo Style points for task 10.1b (New Author)).

15.3b - Historical Fiction set prior to 1845: An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon
35 pts (15 + 5 Combo Style points for task 15.8b + 15 Jumbo Finish points as book was 820 LARGE pages with small print). :-)

I really enjoyed this latest book from Diana Gabaldon. She delved into the American Revolution including the two battles of Saratoga. True to form, her very detailed descriptions about daily life in the era really made the whole story spring to life. I'm giving this one 5 stars.
