Jayme(the ghost reader) (JaymeILtheghostreader) | 2213 comments I have a question, if you do a task that has either/or parts and you do both parts, do you get double the points? For example say a task was 10 points. Do you get 10 and 10 plus the style points for doing both parts or do you get just the initial 10?

Hi Jayme: What you're describin is a 'Complete Finish'. Sam has devised a separate style category for that.

Taken from the Style definitions at the beginning of this thread:

"Complete Finish: Receive an extra 15 points for reading both parts of an either/or task."

My reading of the style point explanation is that when you finish reading a book that completes all parts of either/or task, that book will recieve the 15 point Complete Finish style points and any other style points available for the book. (I don't think it would be eligible for the 'Multiple Finish' style points for that task though.)

Sam, am I close? :-)

Would EACH book get the 10 point Multiple Finish bonus? I think that only the second book would get the Multiple Finish bonus.

Jayme(the ghost reader) (JaymeILtheghostreader) | 2213 comments I finished task 10.1b by reading "Annie Loses Her Leg But Found Her Way" by Sandra J. Philipson. It is a very cute story about a dog who has three legs.

message 131: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 198 comments Time to claim some style points... hope I am doing this right...

10.1 Out with the old and in with the new -

The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry
A Different Kind of Christmas by Alex Haley
The Red Tent by Anita Diamant
And My Shoes Keep Walking Back to You by Kathi Kamen Goldmark

All authors I have not read before. So, 10 points for each for multiple finish? 40 pts?

15.10 Group Read - The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore... 15 more points

15.3 If I Could Turn Back Time - March by Geraldine Brooks (set in 1862) and The Red Tent by Anita Diamante (set in, um, a long time before that)... 15 more points... plus 5 for Combo Finish on The Red Tent... can I do that?

15.9 Posthumously Speaking - Saving Fish From Drowning by Amy Tan... 15 points

so, if this is all right, that's 90 more points? for a total of 145 for me?

message 132: by Sam (last edited Dec 20, 2009 07:08PM) (new)

Sam (archie_leach) | 275 comments Here are the current point totals...

Donna Jo - 280
Melissa - 185
Liz - 150
Erin - 140
Jayme - 125
Krista - 125
Jennifer D. - 80
Jennifer L. - 70
Bridgit - 45
Rachel Lee - 45
DeeDee - 40
Sera - 25
Shannon - 20

And I still haven't finished one book myself yet...

Take a look at the spreadsheet linked in Message #3 if you have questions about points awarded for individual tasks. Remember, you can only claim points for one task at a time. For example, if you claim a "Combo Finish" for a book you read for task 15.7 because it also fits 10.3, you are not actually completing task 10.3. You'd receive 20 points and would have to read another book to complete task 10.3.

Jayme(the ghost reader) (JaymeILtheghostreader) | 2213 comments yay! I am in the top 5

message 134: by Liz M (last edited Dec 20, 2009 08:10PM) (new)

Liz M 20.10a - Lost Generations: Absalom, Absalom! a very lulling story with unusual rhythm and structure, both compelling and numbing.

40 pts: 20 pts. + 5 combo pts (it fits tasks 20.8 - T. Sutpen achieves his goal of wealth and position after decades of determined effort, task 15.6a - #622 on the 1001 books list, and possibly task 15.7 alliteration) + 15 complete finish pts.

So, can we earn "complete finish points" for a task more than once? For example, I have read two books for 20.10b and if I read a book by Hemingway for 20.10a would it be worth 20 + 10 multiple finish + 15 complete finish?

message 135: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 3048 comments Sam, I'm sure glad you are adding these up, because I didn;t come up with that many points for me. It's amazing how some of the tasks multiply so quickly.
However, I had a couple in two messages that didn't get added in.
Message #99 10.10 Bed of Roses by Nora Roberts and
Message #121 10.9 Six Geese a-Slaying by Donna Andrews. No hurry, but just wanted to be sure they are there for final total in February.
Thanks for all you work on this and I hope you get something read soon.

message 136: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 384 comments OK. Let's see if this is right. I havent started a spread sheet for this one, so feel unprepared. I read Resistance A Frenchwoman's Journal of the War for 20.8 - Olympic Dreams and it also would count for 15.8 part B. This is the story of a woman who helped fight the resistance effort in France and continued fighting in subtle ways during her five years of imprisonment in German Labor camps during WWII. Finally, in 1945 she was able to see the success of the resistance/Allied effort with the release of the prisoners. She was able to continue working to hunt down all of the Nazis and Nazi sympathizers.

So that makes 20 points, plus a combo finish? 5 points - total of 25 new points?
